Exmortus Back In The Studio & Recruit Warbringer Members For Studio Sessions

Exmortus have started tracking their new album at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, CA. Those sessions are helmed by producer Zack Ohren (Immolation, Fallujah). Exmortus have recruited Warbringer members drummer Carlos Cruz and guitarist Chase Becker for the sessions.

Vocalist/guitarist Jadran “Conan” Gonzalez comments:

“We’re all stoked to record the new album with Zack, it’s the third time we’ve worked together and we feel very comfortable with him. He is a great engineer and always gets the best performances from the band. It’s unfortunate that [drummer] Mario Moreno and [guitarist] David Rivera will be stepping out for this session, but nonetheless we’re very excited to record with good friends and awesome. Can’t wait to release these heavy tunes.”

Esben And The Witch Unleashes “Older Terrors”

Esben And The Witch is now streaming new dark ambient album “Older Terrors” online in full. “Older Terrors” is the band’s third album, and first with Season of Mist, due for worldwide release on November 4th.

Regarding this release, the band states: “Our forthcoming album ‘Older Terrors’ was written and recorded over the course of a year in Berlin, our adopted home. We’ve spent eight years getting here, sweating on stages, holed up in studios and exploring all that which inspires awe and terror.

“The album features four tracks. In this digital age of music we wanted to create a collection that worked together but could also be separated, each track standing alone, carving its own path and telling its own tale. This record is dedicated to the sublime. To Edward Young’s Night Thoughts, John Martin’s apocalyptic visions, Caspar David Friedrich’s forays into the forest and to the sparks of light that glimmer in times of utter darkness.”

Esben And The Witch Posts New Song “The Wolf’s Sun”

The English-via-Berlin post rock trio Esben And The Witch is now streaming the second new track from upcoming album “Older Terrors.” The track, an expansive slow burner titled “The Wolf’s Sun” is streaming below.

“Older Terrors,” the band’s third album, and first with Season of Mist, will be released worldwide on November 4th. Regarding “The Wolf’s Sun,” the band comments:

“An ode to Luna, a blazing white rock. We find ourselves drawn to and driven by a night lust as old as the firmament itself. The first chapter marks the laden swagger of the satellite, a pendulous, ominous beacon. Switching to the second movement, the maniacal march of its wide-eyed disciples, entranced by its heady glow. Rampaging with hearts as swollen as the moon itself – ‘Light it is blooming, A madness consuming, Inside your head, Inside your hands. In love! I’m raptured!”

Regarding this upcoming album, the band continues, “Our forthcoming album ‘Older Terrors’ was written and recorded over the course of a year in Berlin, our adopted home. We’ve spent eight years getting here, sweating on stages, holed up in studios and exploring all that which inspires awe and terror. The album features four tracks. Black Tusk Announces Athon Memorial Fund

Black Tusk bassist Jonathon Athon died earlier this month after being in a motorcylce crash, and the members of the band have now issued the following statement about setting up a memorial fund:

“We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the overwhelming amount of support received in the past week.

“Many of you have been inquiring about Athon’s medical bills and how you can help. As of now, they are covered. However, we would still like you to contribute if you can. Athon was a very giving person, and he thoroughly enjoyed helping others with his endless skill sets.

“Athon played a very large role in the renovation of fellow bassist and friend Jason Statts’ home after he was paralyzed from a gunshot wound, and he regularly checked in on Jason to listen to music, grill out, or just provide company. Athon and his friend Keith Kozel worked together over the last decade every October to prepare the Jinx bar for their annual Halloween extravaganza.

“Keith was recently diagnosed with a degenerative kidney disease, and he is in dire need of a transplant. While Athon’s medical expenses have been covered, his girlfriend Emily’s have not. She has undergone surgery and faces a long road to recovery both physically and emotionally.

“So in the spirit of Jonathan Athon, we ask that you contribute to this fund that will split the proceeds among Emily, Keith, and Jason. Help Athon keep helping people. We have set up a PayPal at AthonFund@gmail.com if you care to donate. Thank you. TCBT forever.”

Philm Posts “Fire From The Evening Sun” Album Trailer

Dave Lombardo’s Philm has announced that the band’s second studio album, “Fire From The Evening Sun,” will be released via UDR Music on September 16th, 2014 in the US (September 15th in the U.K. and September 12th in other European territories).

“UDR is honored to be working with Philm. This partnership seems very instinctual,” said UDR Music’s head of A&R/Marketing, Jay Lansford. “Dave Lombardo and I worked together during the Grip Inc. years. After hearing Philm’s new album this alliance was clearly divine will. Powerful, intense… urgent. These three prolific musicians have created something that is refreshingly not mundane, but ear-shattering and groundbreaking.”

Dave Lombardo states that the new album will mark a different turn in the band’s musical journey. “Philm’s first album, Harmonic, is still an amazing work to me. It’s improvisational and raw. It was my first time producing an album and I am very proud of it. The new album is a completely different animal. It is again produced by me, but mastered and mixed by a couple of musical giants… Tyler Bates and Robert Carranza. I believe this album has a daring, callous temperament about it that really sums up our mindset right now. No improvising, no fluff. It’s heavy and in your face from start to finish. You may think you know what PHILM is, but you don’t. If you haven’t seen us live, you have no idea. We thrive on being out of our comfort zones and want fans to take that ride.”

Philm – Gerry Nestler (vocals, guitars), Pancho Tomaselli (bass), and Dave Lombardo (drums) – will hit the road this fall in support of the album by performing several shows throughout Europe and the U.S. with more dates to be confirmed.

9/7th London, England The Underworld
9/9th Vienna, Austria Arena
9/10th Munich, Germany Feierwerk
9/11th Zurich, Switzerland Rote Fabrik

Incantation Splits With Guitarist Alex Bouks

U.S. death metal outfit Incantation has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band’s guitarist:

“With a heavy heart we announce the resignation of our long time metal brother Alex Bouks. Over the last few years there have been some rough waters that we have all been navigating.

“A hiatus is more desired, thinking this is the best thing to do to save the magic that we have all worked together on.

“With respect we wish only the best to Alex and his work outside the band. He is truly an amazing musician and we are happy to have worked with him.”

Cardiac Arrest Inks Deal With Razorback Recordings

A foreboding covenant dripping with darkness and dread has been sealed that will bring together splatter metal label Razorback Recordings and the punishingly perverse Illinois act Cardiac Arrest.

2014 will now see to the unleashing of the band’s fifth and most foul album to date, “And Death Shall Set You Free.” Razorback Records comments:

“Formed deep in the black infamy-choked bowels of Chicago in the late ‘90s, Cardiac Arrest has been a known associate of Razorback’s for years and, while the two camps had bonded over their shared obsessions with all things horror and metal, they never worked together – until now!

“Releasing their four previous albums elsewhere, the fearsome foursome of Midwest metal maniacs continue their legacy of death metal brutality with ‘And Death Shall Set You Free’ and the ten cruel scythe cuts of horror-weltered cacoffiny offered therein, with such aural atrocities as ‘There Is No Escape,’ ‘Bridge Burner,’ and ‘Rise! Part Man, Part Beast.’

“While the new album will be the catchiest yet, it will still be as unforgivingly heavy as a sledgehammer to the skull. And it is coming for YOU in the late Summer or early Fall of 2014 … You have been warned! ‘Til then, as those abominable gore-adorers who are Cardiac Arrest always proclaim … ROT FOREVER!”

Eldritch Reveals “Tasting The Tears” Album Details

“Tasting The Tears” is the ninth studio album from prog metal outfit Eldritch, and its due out on February 17th. The following press release was also issued about the album:

“This time the whole band worked together as a team, writing 11 brand new tracks melting each member’s influences into one direction.

“The result is 100% Eldritch: powerful guitars, melodic tunes and technical instrumental parts perfectly blended into a classic progressive album with hard rock influences, thrashy and dark at intervals but, most importantly, remarkable in its own, unique way.

“The lyrics talk about love. Not standard love between two partners, but love in all its forms. Something the band have never done before.

“Tasting The Tears was produced by Eugene Simone at ES Studios in Livorno, Italy. Mixing and mastering duties were handled by Simone Mularoni (DGM) at Domination Studios in San Marino, Italy.”

Balfor Reveals New Lineup, Working On Upcoming Album

Ukrainian black metal act Balfor previously announced a line up change that sees virtually the whole band departing, with only front man and guitarist Thorgeir remaining. Commenting on the reason for such a drastic change, Thorgeir said:

“We parted ways for a variety of reasons and we hadn’t actually worked together for a very long time. This decision was not an easy one, but it was a necessary one that took into account the needs and interests of all the band members, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the guys for all this time we worked together, it was a great experience! But sometimes a change is necessary if you want to move forward.”

With work having begun on the sophomore full-length album, Balfor’s new line up, which consists of Thorgeir on vocals and guitars, Warider on guitars and backing vocals, Athamas on bass and vocals and Khaoth on drums, marks a new stage in the band’s development, one that Thorgeir is very positive about.

“We have been rehearsing together since the beginning of the year, and I am now very sure that the new line up works just as well, if not better, than the previous incarnation of Balfor, because new blood has brought a fresh perspective to the band’s music and a lot of enthusiasm. Warider, the new guitarist, is quite young, but hugely promising, whilst Khaoth has honed his considerable drumming skills with Dark Metallers Khors. Athamas brings with him not only the experience he has gained with bands like Deferum Sacrum and Raventale, but he is also a great vocalist, which is able to give an additional perspective to the Balfor sound.”

“Incendium” has been revealed as the title of the second album by Burial Vault, and the track listing is available below. The follow-up to “Ekpyrosis (Periodic Destruction)” will be released on May 24th, 2013. Apostasy Records comments:

“The record is conceived as a full-on concept and is highly influenced by ‘Fahrenheit 451’ by Ray Bradbury, a classic in dystopian literature. The quintet uses both the music and the lyrics to describe the change of a man from a blind follower to a critical antagonist in a near future within four suspense-packed chapters.

“Recorded at the Soundlodge Studio with producer Joerg Uken (Dew-Scented, Nightfall, God Dethroned a.o.) the listeners get melodic Death Metal with appropriate technical and progressive influences and also subtle Black Metal-esque and acoustic moments. The awesome artwork was done by Ben Borucki (Irrleuchten) who previously worked together with acts like Agathodaimon.”
