My Dying Bride Inks Record Deal With Nuclear Blast

For 27 years, My Dying Bride from West Yorkshire have been the voice of the hopeless and broken, combining haunting sounds with crushing misery and melancholy. With a signature sound, the group has shaped the doom metal scene like barely any other act and integrated both soft violin melodies and violent death metal growls into the music.

Ssince the early Nineties, band masterminds and founding members Andrew Craighan and Aaron Stainthorpe have forged beautiful grief into twelve studio albums with songs of epic length. However for their 13th release, they are now bound for new horizons and proudly announce signing to Nuclear Blast Records.

Singer and lyricist Aaron Stainthorpe comments: “It is with great pleasure that My Dying Bride can announces joining forces with the formidable Nuclear Blast Records in early 2017 and has already begun working on material for the next LP and singles. It is no secret that Nuclear Blast continued to expand greatly over the years, signing epic bands from all corners of the world and giving them the chance they deserve to make something of themselves in the ever expanding metal scene. And it’s time that My Dying Bride came along for the ride. We are hoping that this wedding between a very solid label and a well-established act will bear fruit of mighty proportions in the exciting years to come!”

Since My Dying Bride rarely leaves damp catacombs to perform live rituals, each show is a highlight in itself and on April 22nd, the group will expose “Turn Loose The Swans” in its entire length at Roadburn Festival. Together with Shaun ‘Winter’ Taylor-Steels on drums and a special backdrop lighting, the band will haunt the Dutch stage and deliver a truly unique experience.

22nd April – NL, Roadburn Festival

Vocalist CJ McMahon’s Return Is Official As Thy Art Is Murder Releases Video for New Song “No Absolution”

Australia’s incendiary extreme act Thy Art Is Murder confirmed the return of vocalist CJ McMahon by releasing a video clip for the new song “No Absolution.”

Guitarist Andy Marsh recently spoke on McMahon’s return and the brand new track: “A little over a year ago we were left in a pickle when CJ had finally reached his breaking point – the physical, emotional and mental stresses of touring, and the lifestyle had taken its toll on him. After the dust had settled we had time to speak amongst ourselves, and with him, and we were all able to get on the same page.

“He was able to take time off from the road and work consistently, tick off some life goals like getting married, and enjoy the routine and familiarity of life at home with his friends and family.

“Conversely the rest of us kept going, touring relentlessly, playing bigger tours to more people than ever before, going to new countries for the very first time, and had a blast taking a few great vocalists and mates out for the ride with us while we weathered the storm and figured things out. Special thanks must go out to Monte Barnard, Nicholas Arthur, Lochlan Watt, and every other vocalist who took the time to apply in our discrete vocalist auditions.

“After a few months away from the chaotic life on the road C.J. reached out to us and we started maintaining more regular communication. He mentioned how he had started cleaning up, was focused on working hard and saving for his wedding and enjoying time at home, but he also mentioned he missed the shows, the friends, and us – his band.

“After months of working things out, gaining his voice back, and mending wounded friendships, we are overwhelmed with excitement to announce that we have completed writing for a new record to be released later this year, featuring the one and only Christopher John McMahon. Welcome back C.J.!”

In regards to the song “No Absolution”, Marsh states: “‘No Absolution’ is a rich tapestry, intertwined in faith, scripture and doctrine, and a story about the process that we have endured throughout the last year..We recorded this during the session for Holy War but quite simply ran out of time to finish writing lyrics and recording vocals for it in order to make the record. This song now stands alone, without a record or release – a gift from us to you, thank you for your continued support, we can’t wait to show you what we’re making for 2017.”

McMahon recently offered a brief statement, which didn’t mince words around the reasons for his departure: “I was a drug addict, I was a broke musician, and I had some fucking issues. I got married, I did some fucking soul searching, and now I’m back to take over the world with my fucking brothers.”

Fill in vocalist Lochlan Watt adds: “C.J. is back where he belongs, I am so fucking happy for him and my boys right now. This was truly incredible to witness. Power and then some.”

Thy Art Is Murder Rejoined Onstage By Ex-Frontman CJ McMahon – Is Reunion Permanent?

Thy Art Is Murder was rejoined onstage by ex-Frontman CJ McMahon during last night’s performance at the “UNIFY Festival” in Australia. States former touring vocalist for the band, Lochlan Watt on Instagram: “@cj_brotherwolf is back where he belongs. I am so fucking happy for him and my boys right now. This is truly incredible to witness. Power and then some.”

McMahon addressed his return at the show in the below video, describing himself as a “drug addict” when he first left the band and later stating that he is “back to take over the world.”

McMahon originally left the band back in December of 2015, citing financial reasons:

“With a mix of both negative and positive emotions, I inform you all that I have parted ways with my band Thy Art Is Murder. It has been a wild ride I have travelled to over 40 countries around the world and played alongside some of the worlds biggest and best bands, it brings me great sadness knowing I will never perform again for my amazing and supportive fans, this will be the hardest thing for me to deal with. My reasons for leaving: I spend too much time away from my fiancé , family and friends, touring has taken a massive mental, emotional and physical toll on me. One of the biggest reasons is money, I / we have been broke for years and being 32 years old I can’t live like this anymore. I am getting married next year and plan on having a family, these things cost money, to put the finances into perspective for you I /we have earned between $16k-$18k each over 6-7 years, I feel there is something massively wrong with this, I will not live like this anymore. I’m sorry to my fans that I have to go, I have loved you all and I thank you for believing in me supporting me. The money made from my closing down sale of my clothing label will be going to my wedding, I will also be selling my Northface stage jacket I have worn the last two years on stage via eBay soon to try to pay for my wedding for the people interested, again thank you for the love and support, Your Prince Of Darkness Cj”

Spoken Posts “Falling Apart” Music Video

Spoken has released a music video for the track “Falling Apart” taken off upcoming record “Breathe Again” (due out December 11th on Artery Recordings).

“Falling Apart” is the 2nd single to be released from the album following title track “Breathe Again” (featuring Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire) which was released earlier this year.

The band comments: “‘Falling Apart’ was produced by Cameron Mizell and recorded at Chango Studios in Glendale, Arizona. The video was directed by Sam Link of Collapse Studios and filmed in Columbia, Tennessee at a graveyard for business signs. We were fortunate enough to have Trevor Sarver from The Wedding fill in for the video, which helped us out a lot because he is such a stud and has great hair.

“‘Falling Apart’ is about our past. We all have a one whether we like it or not. If our past currently affects our future, its no longer our past, Its our present which shapes our future. We can’t let our past define us, instead we need to set new goals and ambitions for our lives, free from the insecurities and doubt which cases us to fall apart.”

Soulfly Reveals New Album “Archangel”

On August 14th (worldwide) Soulfly will release 10th studio album, “Archangel,” via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. Today the band has revealed the stunning cover artwork created by artist Eliran Kantor.

”I am so proud to be releasing Soulfly’s tenth album,” comments founder/vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera. “I feel it is my most mystic album since ‘Prophecy.’ The guest collaborations have always been a trademark of Soulfly and ‘Archangel’ is no different! We can’t wait to play this live for the worldwide tribe!”

In regards to the band and the album cover, artist Eliran Kantor states: “I’ve been a fan of Max’s music ever since discovering ‘Beneath The Remains’ in high school. When my wife and I got married ‘Territory’ was even played at the dance party part of our wedding. Max asked me to do a traditional piece depicting Archangel Michael – and I tried to go beyond the straight-up neo-classical style as that has been perfected centuries ago, so I mixed in Souflly”s own visual world: hence the wings and spear being shaped like the Soulfly tribal icon, the cliff with the ocean view just like on the first record, and the Brazilian flag being the core of it’s color scheme.”

The album’s track listing is:

1. We Sold Our Souls To Metal
2. Archangel
3. Sodomites (feat. Todd Jones of NAILS)
4. Ishtar Rising

Along Came A Spider Signs With Standby Records To Release "If We Were Normal Men"

Standby Records announces today the signing of Cleveland modern metal band Along Came A Spider. A video announcement of the signing can be viewed below, and the “If We Were Normal Men” album is slated for release on October 30th. Standby Records also commented:

“Formed at the end of 2009 by guitarist Justin Sobota, Along Came A Spider has spent the last few years developing a lineup that featured the talent at each position in the band needed to reach further than the small confines of the Ohio metal community. Like so many bands signed to Standby Records, CEO Neil Sheehan was drawn to the band not only by their brilliant sound which has been compared to acts like A Day To Remember, In Fear And Faith and Bless The Fall, but also to the band’s proven drive to succeed in a business that has gobbled up and spit out so many other bands of lesser work ethic.”

“Along Came A Spider gets it,” adds Neil Sheehan. “This is a band that understands that the songs are only one piece of the puzzle, but that the work they will have to do will make the difference between their success and failure. Clearly the band has already proven that kind of work ethic. They have self funded everything in their career to this point, including two tours and the recording of their soon to be released album If We Were Normal Men. Regarding the title of the new album, it has significance to the band’s members, who named the album to indicate the band’s feeling about their desire and skills.”

“It signifies that if we were in fact normal men, the dream of becoming full time musicians would not come true,” states Sobota. “Only strong willed people can strive for what they want and believe in. Normal men would have quit when things got hard, especially with how many members we lost and ones we had to remove. The title is just a question we ask ourselves everyday with the band. “What if we were normal men?” and many answers derive from there.”

“If We Were Normal Men” was recorded, engineered, and mixed by producer Don DeBiase, who is best known for his work with bands like Modern Day Escape. “You don’t hear a band with more appeal sonically than Along Came A Spider,” says the always candid Sheehan. “I get demos from band after band, and while some of them are good, very few grab me the way Along Came A Spider did when I heard their new album. As soon as I heard their material, I knew a Rock N’ Roll 2.0 band was ready to be launched to the world.”

The band’s upcoming tour dates are:

10/26: Limestone, NY @ Rock’n Ricks – headlining with The Bella Donna
10/27: Bellefontaine, OH @ TBA Festival – headlining with local openers
11/2: Parma, OH @ City Tap House – direct support for Fight For His Honor
11/9: Cleveland, OH @ Peabody’s – supporting This Or The Apocalypse, War of Ages
11/16: Painesville, OH @ Scores – supporting The Wedding, Strangers To Wolves
