Power Quest Reveals New Frontman Colin Callanan

After splitting with vocalist Chity Somapala, Power Quest has now issued the following update about recruiting a new front man:

“Powerquest is pleased to finally reveal the identity of their new frontman, so please welcome Colin Callanan to the Power Quest family! Colin, 31, is from Galway, Ireland and will make his live debut with the band in Wakefield on November 27th. The show will be streamed live on the web! Previously Colin has been heard fronting his own projects Dark Crystal and Karuna. You can check out Karuna here.”

Steve Williams also commented, “We are thrilled to welcome Colin into the band. He impressed each and every one of us at his audition a couple of months back, and he really understands what Power Quest is all about. His voice and personality are exactly what we have been looking for. Welcome aboard brother!”

Colin added, “I’m really happy to be joining PQ! I’ve been following the band since their very first demo release and have already been singing PQ songs for many years to help me keep my vocal skills up to scratch. I’ve always thought it would be great to get the opportunity to sing with an internationally acclaimed outfit such as Power Quest, and was really glad when I got the invite from Steve to come over and jam with the band to see how the chemistry is. Well it was really cool hanging out with the PQ family over those days, and I tried to give them a good blast of my voice in the rehearsal room so they could see if my technique and style was what the band is after. We both agree it’s a good match, and I’m really enthusiastic about being the new voice of PQ and offering as much as I can to the band on the old songs, as well as working with the guys to write new material together. I look forward to many gigs and tours, and plenty of craic as we say in Ireland!”

Cipher System Posts Posts Fan Questions And Answers Online

Sweden’s Cipher System has posted the following series of fan questions and band answers online, which deal with the sound of the group and the new album “Communicate the Storms:”

“So finally…here comes all the answers of the Q&A! Sorry for the delay!

“Have you thought of making the Synth a little louder through out the song?

“Henric – that would happen if it fits the song. We are not afraid of using keys, but we are a metal band and we don’t want the keys to take over as a lead instrument.

“I’ve got the same question about guitars, in most songs they drown in synths

“Henric – when we mix the album we experiment With the levels. We might change how we mix for the next album a bit, but we wont change sound that much.

“Have you guys also though of using extended range guitars?

“Andreas: At the moment we use 6-stringed guitars only. To be honest, I get confused when there are more strings on a guitar. Personally I think that bands who after a while starts using different tunings or 8-stringed guitars tend to change there sound totally so that is something we will never do. We like our sound as it is.

“Are you guys able to live from your music, or if you all have another job?

“Henric – we all have daytime jobs. We would have to live on the streets if we didn’t, that is how much we earn from this band right now. Everyone expect music to be free nowadays, so it’s hard to make it happen.

“To karl how do u scream so good?

“Carl – Thanks, practice in other bands has made my voice better. And for the album CTS we had a band meeting about the tone/style I was suppose to deliver. I’m happy With the result, and the American deathtone that we wanted turned out fine in My point of view.

“What is the meaning behind the artwork of Central Tunnel Eight? If there even is one at all, haha.

“Henric – ‘Central Tunnel 8’ is a place / haven in your mind where you go to find bliss when you need it the most. The victim on the cover is beaten up pretty bad, so he is right now in Central Tunnel 8 to keep fighting for his life.

“In response to what Josh said, I’d like to hear longer songs with longer instrumental/synth passages. kind of like what Sybreed do. or maybe synth interludes between songs?

“Andreas: We made a bonus track on ‘Communicate…’ with only synth and guitar and the plan is to do the same thing or similar on the next album.

“Who has the worst gas in the band?

“Henric – I would say Johan (he eats a LOT of protein) or Karl? I don’t remember who gave us that awful smell at the last rehearsal, was it me?

“Can you give the presets to the guitar distortions?

“Andreas: We have a picture of the presets here on facebook. Check it out!

“Hey, to the whole band- How did you come up with the name Cipher System, and how do you all agree on a CD title, like Central Tunnel 8 or Communicate the Storms?

“Andreas: In both cases the album titles are based on a song that is seen as the title track of the album. The title in some way summarize the feeling or the concept of the whole album. Henric is the founder of the bandname, not everyone was entirely satisfied in the beginning but eventually it grew and all members accepted it. 🙂

“Your synth work is astounding. doesn’t drown out anything, in fact it makes those songs perfectly thick and melodic. LOVE IT Who writes the synth? everyone collectively?

“Andreas: The synth work is made by Johan and Peter. Usually Johan does the basics and then Peter puts his magic fingers into the process.”

Stabbingback Issues Update On Live Activity And New Releases

Seattle’s Stabbingback has checked in with the following update about the band’s activity and working on new material:

“What’s up everyone….Welcome back to the War. Well then, have we had a monumental year of decisions and change. First things first, we truly apologize for the lack of updates to the site. After the explanation, we hope you’ll understand why. To ensure all questions are answered clearly, we will lay it out in Bullet points.

“Has the band broken up? No, but we are currently not performing either. The band spent some serious time playing gigs and learned one thing. Without new product or a new audience, you will lose money. This may seem like an obvious statement, but when your always being offered gigs, its very hard to say no when you enjoy playing live so much. So we have shut down to embark on a different kind of journey, in recording.

“Is there anything major to know about new material? We intend on having guests on alot of the new material. Musicians and poets whom will be revealed as the songs get released.

“When will the new album be out? The new album has taken a whole new role in its own existence. Instead of ‘Redeemer’ the first album, it will be the first of a project known as ‘Project Redeemer.’ Its a 4 album endeavor which includes rerecording the first currently available for download on itunes, cdbaby, etc. and keeping absolution as it stands now. The 4 albums in sequential order will be…

Project Redeemer: The Voice
Project Redeemer: Visions of Clarity
Project Redeemer: Westward Resolve
Project Redeemer: Absolution

“The band has taken on a very unique recording pattern to ensure you, the fan, will always have something to look forward to. Here is how the recording schedule will roll… Recording schedule:

-Rerecord Song from ‘The Voice’
-Record Song from ‘Visions of Clarity’
-Record Song from ‘Westward Resolve’
-Post a song from ‘Absolution’
-Record stand alone tune for sale from a whole different album entirely called ‘Turn of Events’ (Caught you off guard with that one didn’t we)

“The part that is really cool for you, the fan, is we will be posting the songs as we complete them, mastered and all. The only one we intend on actually selling at this point is “Turn of events”, which will be posted as well, just for sale. This means you buy 1 song, you get 4. We could be wrong, but it sounds like a good deal to us. We just ask you tell everyone you know to be our friend on facebook and/or sign up for the newsletter on our website, so we can let you know when new songs become available.

“That’s it guys, that’s how we intend on meeting our high goals and keep you, ours fans, our friends, our family, a part of this project. Thanks for sticking with us through thick and thin. To those of you who have been fans for years and to those of you who finally found us. Thank you for your loyalty and honor. There are good things coming. Talk to you soon.”

Behemoth Frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski Fired From TV Talent Show, "The Voice Of Poland" Following Religious Pressure

Polands’s State TV has announced that they have removed Behemoth frontman Nergal, aka Adam Darski, from it’s talent show, The Voice Of Poland, after much pressure from the Catholic Church, claining that they will not replace him with another “death metal rock star.”

“In connection with press reports about Adam Darski’s behavior during a recent Warsaw club concert… his provocative behavior showed a lack of respect for religious convictions, as well as for the sick and handicapped,” Polish TV’s president, Juliusz Braun, said on 13 October.

The incident Braun is refering to is a recent concert in Warsaw, Poland, where Darski dressed up as a priest and pretended to cure a handicapped person.

Napalm Death Re-Signs With Century Media Records

Century Media Records has renewed its deal with Napalm Death. In regards to the re-signing, Jens Prüter (Head of A&R, Century Media Records) comments, “Napalm Death is not only one of the most important and influential extreme metal bands, they are also a band that always raises their voice against social ills– and even against record companies (remember ‘Enemy Of Music Business’). Therefore I’m even more glad about Napalm Death re-signing to Century Media for more great albums of intelligent and meaningful noise. And have you ever seen a weak Napalm Death show? I haven’t, and I have seen them MANY times and will never get tired to see them again and again. Thanks to Mitch, Danny, Shane and Barney for their resilience and resistance– and a special thanks to Marc from MAD for fighting on their side.”

Napalm Death vocalist Mark “Barney” Greenway also comments, “We’re very happy to be re-signing to Century Media. In fact, I think it’s the first time we’ve actually re-signed on a longer term deal with anybody since the days when we didn’t strictly know that we could be digging ourselves a big hole with labels…It’s important for Napalm to stay with an independent, and Century proved to us with their overall enthusiasm and attention that this is where we needed to be. There’s a perfect balance of getting the band out there in people’s faces whilst still understanding the point that not everything is acceptable or ‘ethical’ promotion. It’s more like working with friends who actually care, and who could argue with that?”

The band finished recording the upcoming 14th studio album earlier this year at Parlour Studio in Kettering, U.K. with long-time producer Russ Russell, and the group is currently on the road in Russia. You can catch Napalm Death live on the following dates:

Manowar To Headline Getaway Rock Festival 2012

Late Friday night, Manowar bassist Joey DeMaio appeared onstage at this year’s Getaway Rock Festival in Gävle, Sweden and announced that Manowar will perform as next year’s festival headliners.

“The Swedish fans have won; their belief, shown by their non acceptance of false metal is the reason we will finally return.” said DeMaio after the announcement. “There was no compromise in their voices, nor in our resolve; we promised each other that it’s all or nothing. It is no secret that there was a war between promoters as to who would bring Manowar back to Sweden and finally give the fans what they want and Getaway won.”

“This is a major step for us and naturally we are honored that we could secure Manowar as headliners for Getaway Rock Festival 2012.” said festival organizer Tomas Gernberg. “Manowar have a strong and loyal following in Sweden, Scandinavia and all over the world. We are proud to be the ones to bring the band back to Sweden.”

“We played our last festival in Sweden in 1999 and we promised we would not return until we could give our fans what they deserve and next year that promise will be fulfilled. We vow to crack the earth with power and might,” said Joey DeMaio.

“This will be a show which no true metal warrior will want to miss. We are calling all Manowarriors not only from Scandinavia, but from all over the world to join us for earth-shattering, face-melting metal.” continues DeMaio, “The voice of the fans in Sweden has been heard, many other countries will also take heed and their voice too will be the reason Manowar will appear in their country next. There will be more news and surprises to be announced!”
