Exhumed Unveils New Album “Death Revenge”

Lock the mausoleum doors and chain up the cemetery gates, because the long-standing gore metal maniacs from Exhumed re-emerge with disgusting new album “Death Revenge.”

The band’s sixth full-length is a concept album: a musical melodrama in thirteen parts based on shocking true events. “Death Revenge” takes place in the late 1820s in Edinburgh, Scotland and tells the macabre tale of a series of brutal murders where the victims’ cadavers were sold to anatomists, amid a grisly underground trade of grave-robbery.

Recorded with producer Jarrett Pritchard (Goatwhore, Eternal, Gruesome), “Death Revenge” takes the band’s signature gore-drenched, death metal mayhem to theatrical and ghastly new depths. The cover illustration is by Orion Landau with interior illustrations by Lucas Ruggieri.

Frontman Matt Harvey comments: “We’re very excited to see this record come out. It’s been a long time since we’ve fucked up your stereos! I think this record has a darker vibe than the last two, with a pretty gnarly tale of grave-robbery, dissection, murder, and all sorts of general skullduggery. We dig it and we hope you filthy animals will too.”

New album “Death Revenge” is set for release on October 13th on CD, LP, deluxe LP with cassette, and digital formats via Relapse Records. The track listing is as follows:

1. Death Revenge Overture
2. Defenders Of The Grave
3. Lifeless
4. Dead End
5. Night Work
6. Unspeakable
7. Gravemakers Of Edinburgh
8. The Harrowing
9. A Funeral Party
10. The Anatomy Act Of 1832
11. Incarnadined Hands
12. Death Revenge
13. Death Revenge Underture (Bonus Track)
14. A Lesson In Violence (Bonus Track)

Arkaik Reveals New Album “Nemethia”

Progressive tech death collective Arkaik will unleash “Nemethia” on September 29th via Unique Leader Records. A continuation on the conceptual saga of the two previous releases, on “Nemethia” the journey of Cyrix expands into new landscapes.

The band’s fourth full-length offering for Unique Leader was produced, engineered, and mixed by Zack Ohren at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California, and features guest appearances by Joe Haley of Psycroptic, Arde Ostowari formerly of Burning The Masses, Stephen Paulson of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, former Arkaik guitarist Craig Peters, as well as Gabe Seeber from The Kennedy Veil performing drums for the entire album.

The cover art and booklet was designed by artist Tyler Space, who worked with the band on previous release, “Lucid Dawn.” Said founding vocalist Jared Christianson of the record’s concept:

“This album fully sets the stage and builds on the story we started developing two albums ago with Cyrix and Metamorphignition. We’ve begun weaving together our own mythos of synchronicity and symbolism to encapsulate and distill the journey of the alchemist through the gnostic dream. It attempts to reveal through storytelling and allegory that we can experience real freedom and discover the inner treasures that guide us to who, what, and where we want to be, if we are willing to pull back the veil of lies blinding us from the truth of our nature.

“If I could sum up everything we’ve done so far, my personal journey and our message as a band in three words it would be the lyric ‘pain to power’ from the song ‘Telegnosis.’ To me, it’s about transmuting your struggles into strengths and refining your personal power and will. I really enjoyed making this album and hope people dig it!”

Nemethia by Arkaik

Adds guitarist Greg Paulson of the sound and songwriting process, “This is the most involved I’ve been on an Arkaik record so far. The songs are more thought out and meticulously crafted. I wanted to retain the sonic brutality Arkaik is known for, while introducing new elements to further expand on the band’s sound. I incorporated greater symphonic instrumentation throughout the record and utilized my classical background to add more depth and dynamics to the arrangements. The album is overall more complex, I even added some harmonized vocals to blend with Jared’s voice, making for some interesting layered textures. This is sure to be the most unique Arkaik album to date. I’m really proud of what we created and hope people enjoy it.”

1. Occultivation
2. Of Violence And Pestilence Born
3. Order Of The Hierogon
4. Dweller On The Threshold
5. Futile State
6. The Eupnean Relic
7. Lifting Amnesia
8. Telegnosis
9. Nexion Stargate

Cold Blooded Streams New Song “Forever War”

“Forever War” – a new track from Spokane, Washington’s own Cold Blooded – just came online and can be heard below. A sludgy song of epic proportions, the track is taken from the forthcoming full-length album “Throne Burner,” due to be released via Blackhouse Records (Prison Religion, Ras Kass) on 7/21 and produced by Bill Nieman.

Speaking on the album’s title and lyrical through-line for the songs, vocalist Ethan Kennedy said: “In the past I wrote lyrics inspired by books or films that affected me. However with Throne Burner I started writing shortly before the presidential election and I knew no matter who won, a good deal of this country would be supremely pissed off and extremely divided.

“I wrote about all the negativity and violence in America and the influences that in turn has on our society. Some songs are from the perspective of someone directly affected by the violence, some deal with those of us viewing it in the media and even to the perspective of someone who wants to perpetrate the violence.”

To further hone the sonic chaos the band enlisted Topon Das of avant-grind freaks Fuck The Facts to contribute several sound-collage interludes (as well as master the record). Speaking on Das’s relationship to the band, Kennedy related: “we’ve opened for Fuck The Facts several times and they are one of our favorite bands. We also bonded because our old drummer owns a food truck of some renown and we invited them down after a show to gorge themselves. That definitely solidified our friendship.”

Speaking on Das’s interludes, Kennedy continues “he really went out of his way to get our input into what we wanted for those segments to even revising what he did based on my opinion. In the end he created some very palpable moods/messages that fit the album perfectly.”

The band has several shows confirmed around the record release (listed below) and will also be supporting Decapitated and Thy Art Is Murder in Spokane.

7/20 Spokane, WA The Pin (Record Release Show!)
8/18 Seattle, WA The Kraken Klaw
8/19 Everett, WA Tony V’s Garage Klaw, Method 13
8/31 Spokane, WA The Pin Decapitated, Thy Art Is Murder

On July 28th, Byzantine will release their new album, The Cicada Tree, via Metal Blade Records. To state that The Cicada Tree is “classic Byzantine” in no way implies that this is an album solely rooted in the band’s past. Certainly, all of the hallmarks that have made their sound so compelling for close to two decades are present and correct: muscular yet lithe riffs and fluid leads play against gripping, dynamic and at times unpredictable rhythms, while rich melodies and lyrics that are both involved and intelligent wind their way through every track. But, once more, the groove metal unit has continued their steady evolution – the interplay between their members organic and natural, imbuing the record’s sixty-two-minute running time with a freshness and urgency. Founding member Chris “OJ” Ojeda states, “The first few albums, you’re trying to find your sound, and sometimes you tend to not see the forest for the trees. Now, on album number six, it seems a calmness took hold during the songwriting process, possibly from just having more confidence in our sound. At this point, our fans expect us to experiment and push our boundaries, which is an extremely liberating feeling.”

Byzantine launches concussion-inducing video for new single, “New Ways to Bear Witness”

– May 17th, 2017 –

Featuring Skeletonwitch’s Dustin Boltjes

New album, ‘The Cicada Tree’, now available for pre-order

On July 28th, Byzantine will release their new album, The Cicada Tree, via Metal Blade Records. Heralded as the most underrated band from the New Wave of American Heavy Metal Movement, Byzantine has slowly gained a cult-like following after releasing 5 genre-bending albums. 16 years underground, it’s finally time for the world to hear Byzantine! For a first preview of The Cicada Tree, a new video for the single “New Ways to Bear Witness” (featuring a cameo by Skeletonwitch‘s Dustin Boltjes, as well as ex-Byzantine drummer Matt Wolfe) has been launched online. Directed/edited by Holly Siders, the filming of “New Ways to Bear Witness” resulted in Chris “OJ” Ojeda (vocals, rhythm guitar) suffering a concussion. OJ comments about the experience:

“So, we came up with an idea of having our old drummer do a cameo appearance in the music video. Matt Wolfe left the band right before we signed with Metal Blade and had occupied the drum seat for the last 12 years. We felt it was a perfect opportunity to let fans know that we still love Matt and he’s still welcome and important to our band. What’s the best way to have an ousted band member make a cameo? To hit me with a vehicle, of course!
We set up the scene and did about 5 or 6 takes of Wolfe hitting me with the vehicle and me rolling off the vehicle. I didn’t know until we wrapped shooting the next day that something was wrong and had a very hard time driving home. I contacted an ER doctor friend of mine who told me I needed to come see him ASAP. After a CT Scan and an EKG, he let me know I had a standard sports type concussion from repeatedly hitting my head during the video shoot. I got 3 days off work and a cool story out of it! Rock!”
