Sabaton’s Joakim Brodén Voted 5th Place In Czech Singing Competition

Joakim Brodén, front man of Sabaton, was voted fifth in the Czech national singing competition “Ceský slavík” on November 26th. Nuclear Blast comments on the event:

“This came as a huge surprise to the Czech domestic music scene, as well as it became a source of satisfaction for Czech metalheads as Sabaton is hugely popular in the Czech Republic. Brodén got 9826 points, trailing by roughly 2,000 to a fourth place.

“Brodén, whose mother is natural born Czech and later emigrated to Sweden during communist era, has two passports both Swedish and Czech. His popularity stems not only from being a frontman of a very successful metal act, but also, of course from his cool and friendly onstage behavior. Therefore, he was able to qualify into the top 6 final in the singer’s category, pushing aside big names of the Czech music scene.”

Brodén’s fifth place is sort of a miracle of its own, pointing to metal becoming part of mainstream culture and loyalty and dedication of metalheads!

Joakim made a video to thank his Czech fans. You can watch it here (in English):

The Tourniquet Ark Launches Crowd Funding Campaign For New Album

The Tourniquet Ark – a project from Tourniquet’s Ted Kirkpatrick – has launched a Kickstarter campaign to crowd fund a new album.

You can check out full details on the campaign, including available perks for backers, at this location. The Tourniquet Ark also issued this statement:

“My name is Ted Kirkpatrick. I am the drummer and main songwriter in the band Tourniquet. I love animals and I despise animal abuse. I have been so blessed by all of you who have joined me at The Tourniquet Ark – where animal welfare meets Tourniquet – thank you! We have had some great comments and discussions here. I’m asking you now to take a new step and join me in making a cool – and I believe, worthwhile album. If my goal is reached, I promise to get this album in as many hands and to as many ears as possible.

“After a very successful Tourniquet Kickstarter campaign in early 2011 (thank you Tourniquet fans) I hopefully have a good idea of some really cool rewards to give out. I hope you’ll agree there is some great rewards on this one!

“If funded, the money will go for studio time, production costs, mixing, guest musicians (should be cool), artwork, merchandise, advertising, manufacturing – wow – I may be missing a thing or three, but you get the idea!

“Your pledge will allow us to make this possible together: – to encourage people to develop a ‘compassion for creation,’ connecting it to their daily lives. I believe this is the perfect time to do an album for musicians, fans, and anyone else who is willing to look at the plight of animals. The momentum has never been stronger and it’s not going away. American journalist and two time Pulitzer prize winner Nicholas Kristof speaks about animal protection as a critical moral question in today’s society. ‘Society will indeed look back on this time and wonder how humanity could have been so callous and cruel in its treatment of innocent and vulnerable creatures.’ I think he’s right. Thank you all.”

Gwydion In The Studio Recording Third Album

Portugese metal act Gwydion has checked in with the following announcement about entering the studio and record a new album:

“Cheers my friends! It has been a while since you got news from our camp! First of all we are overwhelmed by the huge success of our latest release Horn Triskelion, and we raise our horns to all of you Beerzerkers that made this a very successful album.

“Meanwhile, after 4 years of a great relation, we decided to stop working together with our label Trollzorn. But we will never forget who gave us a hand when we were a completely unknown band in Europe. It has been a great pleasure to work with such honorable people that always stood aside us in the best and worst times, but like everything in life there is a time when we feel the need to change and we all think that this time has come. We wish Trollzorn all the best and please keep up your astonishing work as a folk/pagan label!

“But the best news of all, Gwydion has entered ‘The Pentagon’ studio last week to record our 3rd album with our producer Fernando Matias and so far everything is rockin´ as it should be! You think Horn Triskelion was good..? Well then arm yourself, and get ready for war! Prepare yourself for the most intense and majestic epic folk metal album! Horns up!”

You can also find further details on Gwydion by heading over to the band’s official Facebook profile.
