Cytotoxin Announces “Gammageddon” Album Release

During the night of April 26th, 1986, a world-changing accident occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine. A catastrophic meltdown befell Reactor No. 4, resulting in core explosions and open-air fires. Copious quantities of radioactive materials and airborne isotopes were consequently dispersed into the atmosphere and surrounding lands.

The disaster has been widely regarded as the worst accident in the history of nuclear power globally. As a result, Reactor No. 4 was destroyed and is being enclosed in a concrete and lead sarcophagus to prevent further escape of radioactivity. Large areas of Europe were affected by the accident, with the radioactive cloud spreading as far as Norway.

Moved by devastating consequences of the event, a German band called Cytotoxin pulverized the death metal world with its formation in 2010. Fast forward to today and its time for “Gammageddon.” Captured earlier this year again at Kohlekeller Studios, “Gammageddon” centers itself on the city of Pripyat. Named after the nearby Pripyat River, the city was founded on February 1970 as the ninth nuclear city — a type of closed city — in the Soviet Union, to serve the nearby Chernobyl plant.

It was officially proclaimed a city in 1979, and had grown to a population of nearly 50,000 by the time it was evacuated the day after the Chernobyl disaster. The city is now a ghost town, and “Gammageddon” serves as a soundtrack to the horrors leading to the evacuation with its unadulterated technical extremity.

“Gammageddon” will be released on CD and digital formats via Unique Leader Records on July 28th. Pre-orders will be unveiled in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out “Radiatus Generis” below.

Notes the band of the track: “You all have had almost five years to prepare for the next radioactive fallout, but you may not be ready for such an overdose of extreme metal. This is brutal… this is frightening… this is Gammageddon!”

Desertfest Announces First Crop Of 2017 Bands

The organizers of the annual Desertfest just checked in with this announcement about the 2017 lineup coming together:

“We know you all have been aching for this, so without further ado let us present the first names for the 2017 edition of Desertfest Antwerp!

“We kick things off with Windhand, a scene favorite that has also managed to capture the hearts and minds of rock fans worldwide with their unique brand of female-led Sabbathian worship. Radio Moscow is another winner with a stone solid live reputation that will be sure to set the DF stage on fire.

“Next up, something more out of the ordinary: Part Chimp blends sludgey riffage with the acid bite of Amphetamine noiserock, and will delight anyone with a fine ear for heavily distorted blues. Finally, we keep the tradition of presenting Belgian bands to our international crowd. Hemelbestormer (that’s Dutch for ‘Stormer of Heaven’) is a local postmetal band that has been making waves in Europe and the States for the last couple of years.”

Nervecell Discusses Leaving Unique Leader Records

Nervecell just checked in with the following statement about the band’s current label situation and upcoming album:

“We’d like to clear the air about this as we’ve been getting a lot of questions about whether we’re still with Unique Leader Records for North America. The fact is we’ve left Unique Leader Records for reasons not worth publicly mentioning, as it only creates more speculation.

“It was a decision we made ourselves for the band’s best interest. What’s important to us now is that we focus on our new album ‘Past, Present…Torture.’ It’s completed, sounds absolutely killer and is ready to be released soon. So if there is any U.S. labels / A&R executives reading this or interested to work with us, the door is open and you know where to find us.

“Having said that, we are super excited to be back with our European label home Lifeforce Records who will release ‘Past, Present…Torture’ for all our European fans this summer. Cheers!”

The Walking Dead Orchestra Signs With Unique Leader

French death metal legion The Walking Dead Orchestra is the latest addition to Unique Leader Records’ expanding roster of brutality. The group will release a self-produced, as-yet-untitled second full-length album later this year.

Issues the band, “Two years of hard work were necessary for the writing and production process of this record. We decided to propose a more mature, personal, and of course, wilder record than our first album. We went back to our roots with straight, old-school death metal riffs.

“Our choice to develop our own identity pushed us to record, mix, and master the album ourselves. This is a new chapter in the band’s story. We promise many surprises. We are proud to join the Unique Leader family for the release of this record. Run! Epidemic is coming.”
