Cytotoxin Posts “Gammageddon” Album Preview

“Gammageddon” is the forthcoming new full-length from Germany’s Chernobyl-themed death bringers, Cytotxin.

Captured earlier this year again at Kohlekeller Studios, “Gammageddon” centers itself on the city of Pripyat, which had grown to a population of nearly fifty-thousand by the time it was evacuated the day after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

“Gammageddon” serves as a soundtrack to the horrors leading to the evacuation with its unadulterated technical extremity. Check out an album preview below. The album will be released on CD and digital formats via Unique Leader Records on July 21st.

New Album “With All Their Might” Announced By Dyscarnate

UK death metal trio Dyscarnate will release the third full-length album, and first for Unique Leader Records, on September 15th. Titled “With All Their Might,” the eight-track offering was captured by Stu McKay (Ingested, Acrania et al) at Studio 6 in England and mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Ancient, Aborted, Volbeat, Evergrey et al) at Hansen Studios in Denmark.

“‘With All Their Might’ is the sound of us nailing our colors to the mast in no uncertain terms,” issues the band of their latest release. “We’ve always worked on each new album as its own entity, and feel the whole thing needs to flow as one cohesive piece. Every song has its place on the record, but the lyrics and feel of each one reflects a signature theme. We feel that while this record is the most complete thing we’ve ever done, it’s also the most varied, dynamic, and evolved we have ever been. We have written this album for only ourselves, and as a result feel we have something our fans will really connect to. Dyscarnate is now split between Shropshire, Sussex, and Amsterdam, which has meant this record has been written and recorded in a wide variety of locations. For the last two weeks of writing, we set ourselves up in a secluded farmhouse just over the Welsh border, where we worked non-stop putting the finishing touches to the demos, as well as tracking all the vocals ourselves. Inspiration has come from everywhere on the musical spectrum and beyond. We didn’t want to work within any kind of parameters, and tried things we wouldn’t have gone near in the past. Song and lyric concepts have included, among many others: existential dread, insanity, human perception, and strength of will.”

Preorder information and the first official video will be announced in the weeks to come. The album artwork and track listing can be found here:

1. Of Mice And Mountains
2. This Is Fire!
3. Iron Strengthens Iron
4. Traitors In The Palace
5. To End All Flesh Before Me
6. Backbreaker

New Album “This Is Hell” Announced By The Convalescence

Ohio symphonic death metal unit/recent Unique Leader signee The Convalescence will release the new album “This Is Hell” on September 1st.

The ten-track offering was produced by John Burke (Forever In Terror, Captain Kid, etc.) at Vibe Studios, which was mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, Despised Icon, Beyond Creation, etc.) at The Grid and comes wrapped in the macabre cover art of Coki Greenway.

The band commented: “We recently signed with Unique Leader Records to help us deliver our heaviest and darkest album yet with This Is Hell. We believe this is by far our best work and the strongest lineup of musicians we have ever had. This album has a lot more of a death metal feel to it than Poison Words and The Process but it’s still got The Convalescence sound with symphonic melodies from Katie [McCrimmon] on keys and plenty of slamming breakdowns.”

Preorders for “This Is Hell” will be available in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out the title track streaming in the player below.

The track listing is:

1. Scum
2. No Way Out
3. I Won’t Survive

Beneath Reveals “Ephemeris” Album Details

“Ephemeris” is the third full length release from Icelandic death metal titans, Benath. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Fredrik Nordström at the acclaimed Studio Fredman in the fall of 2016.

After the departure of founding member and drummer Ragnar Sverrison, Beneath teamed up with Mike Heller (Malignancy, Control/Resist, Fear Factory) to handle the drums for the album. The result is nine tracks of relentless brutality.

Commented vocalist Benedikt Natanael Bjarnason, “We are immensely proud to announce the release of our third full-length album Ephemeris. We teamed up with Mike Heller to provide session drums for the nine-track album which adds a whole new dimension to the soundscape of Beneath. Make sure to not miss the release date on August 18th!”

Guitarist Jóhann Ingi Sigurðsson adds, “Ephemeris has been a demanding album for us personally and in many ways, it represents a turning point for the band. We’ve always pushed ourselves in ways that keep us invested and engaged in our music, and on this album, that meant making big changes to our overall sound. There are songs that are a marriage of pure heaviness and brutality, while on the other spectrum there are some very challenging technical arrangements pushing the limits of our playing abilities. In the end, we ended up with an album that feels musically multidimensional and that we are extremely proud of.”

New album “Ephemeris” will be released on August 18th via Unique Leader Records and the full track listing is as follows:

1. Constellational Transformation
2. Eyecatcher
3. Ephemeris
4. Alignments
5. Guillotine
6. Cities Of The Outer Reaches
7. Medium Obscurum
8. Amorphous Globe
9. Multiangular

Lago Signs With Unique Leader Records

Unique Leader Records is proud to announce the signing of Phoenix, Arizona-based death metal quartet Lago for the release of the band’s impending second LP. Lago comments:

“With this record, we are really trying to step outside of the box that we’ve created for ourselves. Our previous stuff is very heavily influenced by Morbid Angel and Emperor, and though those influences are still very heavy in our sound, we really want to make sure we just aren’t going to put out the same record as our last one, ‘Tyranny.’

“A lot of the new stuff we’re doing is exclusively two-part guitar. We wouldn’t go and call this a prog record, but in terms of what’s going on within the songs themselves I would say the guitar work is a lot busier. Lyrically, I think you can expect a lot of similarities. Our country is a crazy place right now with the political climate and a seemingly divided population. There’s a lot of vile, and disgusting things happening, and I think that will reflect in the writing and really set the tone for the album.”

Stand by for additional info on Lago’s impending second album upon its completion in the months ahead.

Afterbirth Releasing New Album “The Time Traveler’s Dilemma”

New York-based death metal behemoth Afterbirth — featuring within its ranks members of Helmet, Artificial Brain, and Buckshot Facelift — will release the brutalizing “The Time Traveler’s Dilemma” full-length album via Unique Leader Records this summer.

Among the earliest purveyors of brutal death metal, Afterbirth was forged on Long Island, New York during the Summer of 1993. The following year, the band released the “Psychopathic Embryotomy” studio demo, but due to various issues among its members, Afterbirth disbanded shortly thereafter.

After a near-twenty-year hiatus however, the band reunited in 2012 and began composing new material for an unknowable future and a then as-yet untitled debut. “The Time Traveler’s Dilemma” — set for release on July 28th on CD, digital, and vinyl formats — was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Joseph Cincotta at Full Force Studios and comes sheathed in the cover art of Kishor Haulenbeek.

Cytotoxin Announces “Gammageddon” Album Release

During the night of April 26th, 1986, a world-changing accident occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine. A catastrophic meltdown befell Reactor No. 4, resulting in core explosions and open-air fires. Copious quantities of radioactive materials and airborne isotopes were consequently dispersed into the atmosphere and surrounding lands.

The disaster has been widely regarded as the worst accident in the history of nuclear power globally. As a result, Reactor No. 4 was destroyed and is being enclosed in a concrete and lead sarcophagus to prevent further escape of radioactivity. Large areas of Europe were affected by the accident, with the radioactive cloud spreading as far as Norway.

Moved by devastating consequences of the event, a German band called Cytotoxin pulverized the death metal world with its formation in 2010. Fast forward to today and its time for “Gammageddon.” Captured earlier this year again at Kohlekeller Studios, “Gammageddon” centers itself on the city of Pripyat. Named after the nearby Pripyat River, the city was founded on February 1970 as the ninth nuclear city — a type of closed city — in the Soviet Union, to serve the nearby Chernobyl plant.

It was officially proclaimed a city in 1979, and had grown to a population of nearly 50,000 by the time it was evacuated the day after the Chernobyl disaster. The city is now a ghost town, and “Gammageddon” serves as a soundtrack to the horrors leading to the evacuation with its unadulterated technical extremity.

“Gammageddon” will be released on CD and digital formats via Unique Leader Records on July 28th. Pre-orders will be unveiled in the coming weeks. In the meantime, check out “Radiatus Generis” below.

Notes the band of the track: “You all have had almost five years to prepare for the next radioactive fallout, but you may not be ready for such an overdose of extreme metal. This is brutal… this is frightening… this is Gammageddon!”

1. Radiatus Generis
2. Chaos Cascade
3. Gammageddon
4. Chernopolis
5. Deadzone Outpist
