Chugun Announces Music Video Concept Competition Winner

Chugun – which recently signed to Sliptrick Records and released the “Virus” album last year – had been running a competition to see which fan could come up with the best video idea, and now the winning concept has been announced. The band comments:

“We’ve received a bunch of ideas for the competitions from different places around the world –
some of those ideas were great, some of them made us smile, but there can only be one winner,
and the winner is Rhys Stevenson from England! Now he has a Chugun T-Shirt and a CD on the way to him. You can read his winning idea below.”

Song: “Unholy Warrior”

Set in the ancient port of Jaffa, crusader warriors come face to face with a legion of Islamic warriors lead by Saladin, they draw their weapons and stand glaring at each other on the steps in front of the ‘St. Peter’s Church’ in the background. Whilst the battle waits to start, Chugun are jamming / practising in a room in Tel Aviv to the song ‘Unholy Warrior’. When Denise enters the room, picks up the mic and sings the first word of the lyrics, simultaneously the crusader and Islamic forces charge and battle.

When Chugun finish and the battle rages in Jaffa, Chugun receive a phone call from the guys in Orphaned Land (or any other available Israeli band) who want to play beachball with them and so, Chugun drive to Jaffa only to come face-to-face with a horde of fighting warriors.
Immediately Denise steps out of the car and shouts in Hebrew ‘stop fighting you unholy warriors, make peace!’. The warriors stop fighting, turn to look at Denise who now has the band standing beside her, equidistant from the warriors on the other side is Saladin who looks on in fury as his forces lay down their weapons. Denise stands up to Saladin and requests that they stop fighting in the name of peace and wants to show him something.

Saladin follows her to the beach, where waiting to play beach volleyball are Orphaned Land (or as said another available Israeli band) and the other band’s vocalist explains that just like music, sport has enabled people to stop thinking about war, culture clashes and other negatives between nations. Saladin likes this and sends his warriors back to Turkey whilst he plays beach volleyball with his newfound Israeli friends. Before proclaiming himself as a ‘unholy warrior’ who feels he will leave a lasting legacy and a respected person throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

After parting ways with Mikael Akerfeldt in 2012, Bloodbath is finally now gearing up to record a new album.

The band’s Facebook profile was updated with this puzzle asking fans to figure out who the new vocalist will be:

“UGHH! HEEEY! I SAID HEY! We got 10 songs down and we start recording drums next month!!! Still curious who’s gonna sing on this one? Well, we’ll leave you with these disasters to see if any of you smart-azzez can figure it out:

“Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors is found dead in his bathtub in Paris, France.

“A cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, in the Indian state of Odisha, kills 10,000.

“A fire at a 22-story hotel in Seoul, South Korea kills 158 people.

“A stairway crush as crowds leave the Rangers vs. Celtic football match in Glasgow, results in 66 deaths.

“A fire in a mental hospital at Burghölzli, Switzerland, kills 28 people.

“A landslide at Chungar, Peru crashes into Lake Yanahuani, killing 200.

“An earthquake lasting 20 seconds destroys most of Bingöl, Turkey – more than 1,000 are killed, 10,000 made homeless.

“An air crash at Rijeka Airport, Yugoslavia kills 78 people, mostly British tourists.

“The new singer for Bloodbath is born. Oh dear.”

This upcoming new album will follow previous 2008 full-length “The Fathomless Mastery” (reviewed here).

Manowar To Release “Kings Of Metal MMXIV” In February

“Kings Of Metal MMXIV” is a completely new recording with many surprises, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of “Kings Of Metal” and Manowar’s following world tour. The release is due out February 28th, 2014.

For “Kings Of Metal MMXIV,” Manowar recorded timeless metal anthems with new arrangements and the band’s signature “larger than life” sound. “Our fans have made us the ‘Kings Of Metal,’ and with this tribute to one of their favorite albums, we honor them and thank them for their unparalleled support and loyalty!” said Manowar vocalist Eric Adams.

The album will feature 9 main tracks packed with face-melting metal, plus 9 bonus tracks with over 40 minutes of additional music. “We have pushed man and machine to the maximum level to honor the original recordings that we all love, and to add new aspects and surprises that give this new album its own character,” said bassist and producer Joey DeMaio. “The sound is again as massive and majestic as it has always been,” he continued.

“Recording this album has been an amazing experience! After playing the songs so many times on tour, Donnie and I now had the opportunity to contribute our own sound and elements that the fans have come to love from our live performances,” explained guitarist Karl Logan.

For the new narration on the spoken word track “The Warrior’s Prayer MMXIV,” Manowar joined forces with British actor Brian Blessed. For special effects of the highest level on “The Warrior’s Prayer MMXIV,” sound effects specialist Hamilton Sterling was recruited.

“Kings Of Metal MMXIV” will be released in retail on February 28th, 2014 as a 2 Disc CD with two 24-page booklets and additional new art by fantasy artist and longtime collaborator Ken Kelly. You can also catch the band live:
