Former Suffocation Guitarist Guy Marchais Diagnosed With Hodgkins Lymphoma

Former Suffocation guitarist Guy Marchais has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer in the blood which attacks the immune system in the body and lymph nodes. A fundraiser has been set up for him, on which a statement reads:

“On January 19th, 2018, we found out that Guy Marchais was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a blood cancer effecting the body’s immmune system and lymph nodes. This comes just 80 days after his niece was diagnosed with the same exact thing. Although not genetic, lighting struck twice in our family. I’m calling to everyone to donate what you can. Even with health insurance, bills are piling up in the thousands. There are many more tests to be done before starting his treatment plan on February 5th, which includes chemo and possibly radiation. Our family is struggling and could really use your help.”

Avatar Releases “The Eagle Has Landed” Music Video

Avatar has debuted a new music video for the track “The Eagle Has Landed.” Directed by longtime collaborator Johan Carlén, this official music video comes from forthcoming LP “Feathers & Flesh.”

Vocalist Johannes Eckerström explains: “During the past few months I’ve ended up saying ‘this is our most ambitious work to date’ quite a bit, but this one takes the cake. While still keeping it in the family we’ve created yet a new universe for everyone to get immersed in. A fable is a metaphor to explore the human condition and we’ve taken it one step further, zooming in on one song and what it has to say in and out of itself beyond the frames of the concept of ‘Feathers & Flesh.’

“This is the story of five conmen traveling around the land, selling their snake oil to the easily persuaded people of the soil. Often when we want karma to bite someone’s ass the most, they always seem to get away. It was fun to play the bad guy for once. I think the visuals and our treatment of the classic one take-concept speaks for itself. This is one of those you’ll want to watch over and over again. I know I’m already doing just that. Enjoy!”

Rotten Sound Streaming New Track “Inhuman Treatment”

Finnish grindcore powerhouse Rotten Sound is streaming an explosive new track taken from new full-length, “Abuse to Suffer.” The track – titled “Inhumane Treatment” – is streaming now in the player below.

Regarding the new track, bassist Kristian Toivainen comments: “As I did not plan ‘Inhumane Treatment’ to become a Rotten Sound track, it was easily done without any stressing. I was just playing around with some riffs and thought about writing a slow death metal song in the style of Bolt Thrower and Dismember.

“It had quite many riffs, but after I while I got bored with all that slowness, added grind and d-beat parts and turned it into our tune. Keijo is using the classic ENT-Doom-UK-crust-grandpa-vocal-style in the chorus, which works like a charm on top of the d-beat.”

Iced Earth Cancels Upcoming Tour Dates

Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer has issued the following announcement about cancelling all upcoming live activity due to having surgery:

“It is with sincere apologies that I write to inform you all that Iced Earth is forced to cancel this summer’s festivals and headline shows.

“As many of you know, I underwent surgery on my neck in the year 2000, due to an onstage injury that occurred in 1996. Since that time, I have battled with this problem, and it has begun to accelerate in the past several months, causing additional issues that can no longer be ignored.

“In February, while on tour in Europe, I underwent highly specialized treatment in Germany from a doctor who has helped, among many others, Tony Iommi and Eddie Van Halen. This treatment helped sustain my ability to perform so that we could complete our Worldwide Plagues Tour. However, I am now forced to take further, more invasive action sooner than I intended in order to maintain my overall health.

“Surgery was originally planned to take place in September during our break, but I have now been advised to have the procedure completed sooner rather than later.

“As much as it pains me and everyone else in our camp to have to cancel these dates, this is something that cannot be put aside any longer.

“Once the surgery and recovery are completed, we will be back to work – healthy, strong, and ready to bring the metal to you, our fans.

“Best wishes to you all.”

Iced Earth’s latest album “Plagues of Babylon” (reviewed here) is out now, and you can hear a track off the release below.
