At The Gates Posts New Music Video “The Mirror Black” Online

Swedish death metal legends At The Gates has released a new music video for the song, “The Mirror Black,” which was released today as a seven inch single and features guest vocals from Rob Miller of Amebix fame. The clip was created by Costin Chioreanu / Twilight13Media, who also is also responsible for the artwork duties of the entire “To Drink From The Night Itself” release. The video can be seen below.

At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg checked in with the following comment :”When we decided that we wanted to release the two Rob Miller tracks on a separate 7″, we felt that ‘The Mirror Black‘ was worthy of its own video. Costin was already excited about the idea, and I explained the basic outlines of the idea of the song. Working with Costin always brings in another dimension to our music and my lyrics; so he did his own interpretation of the main theme of the song. I am super happy with the result, I really think that this is one of the best videos At The Gates have ever done. There are a lot of hidden meanings and other symbolism in this clip, so you can watch it many times and still find new stuff. We as a band are super excited about this release!”

Triptykon to perform three-part “Requiem” with orchestral accompaniment at Roadburn Festival 2019

Roadburn has announced the first of three specially commissioned pieces to be performed at the festival in 2019 (April 11-14, Tilburg, The Netherlands). Tom G. Warrior, who was a Roadburn guest curator in 2010 and also performed there in 2014, will be presenting the full three-part “Requiem” with Triptykon, with orchestral accompaniment by the world-renowned Dutch Metropole Orkest.

The first part of the piece appeared on Celtic Frost’s “Into The Pandemonium” in 1987, titled “Rex Irae”. The third part, “Winter”, was included on “Monotheist” in 2006. The missing middle part is now being composed by Warrior for this special commission.

Warrior explains:

The intention to finish the full Requiem remained with me. I was going to do it one distant day with Triptykon, the group I formed to continue to pursue the path I began in Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. It was 2018, yet again 16 years after I last worked on the Requiem, when Walter Hoeijmakers, founder of the legendary Roadburn Festival and one of my most beloved friends, contacted me to propose Roadburn as the venue to perform, at long last, the finished Requiem.

Walter and his team very kindly provided for the resources necessary for such a substantial undertaking, and so, at 54 by now, I found myself commencing work on the second and thus final part of the Requiem this year.

The three parts of the Requiem will therefore be performed by Triptykon at Roadburn 2019, with full classical orchestration, congregated specifically for this occasion by Florian Magnus Maier, who is our esteemed classical collaborator and arranger in this project, and whose patience with me appears to be limitless. We feel very proud and deeply honoured to be joined in this endeavour by the renowned Dutch Metropole Orkest.

More details about the commission can be found on the Roadburn web site.

Orphaned Land Reveals New Album, “Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs” Release Date And Tracklisting

Oriental metal pioneers, Orphaned Land, will release their new studio album “Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs on January 26th, 2018 via Century Media Records. Jens Bogren once again took over mixing duties of what turned out to be the band’s best and biggest production so far. “Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs” will feature a guest appearance of guitar virtuoso Steve Hackett as well as guest vocal appearances by no other than Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian) and Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates). The great album artwork was created by Valnoir.

Singer and frontman Kobi Farhi comments: “We are thrilled and so happy to finally reveal you the great artwork of ‘Unsung Prophets & Dead Messiahs!’ Our music has always been a combination of anger, tragedy, protest and joy. We can’t wait for you to hear the 13 brand new tracks of this album. As always it will be very eclectic, no song sounds like the other and the whole album is a one big musical journey. We feel that this album takes our feelings to a new level of anger, protest and tragedy. The cover speaks for itself and it was made as tribute to the way governments design their money. Enjoy!”

At The Gates Recruits New Guitarist Jonas Stålhammar, Announces Album Release

Swedish melodic death metal group At The Gates is now in the final stages of preparation for an upcoming new album, following 2014’s comeback release, “At War With Reality” (reviewed here).

After the departure of founding guitarist Anders Björler in March, the group is not only ready to give a comprehensive update on the new album’s status, but can also now announce the newest addition to the At The Gates line-up. The Swedes comment:

“We have finally decided on a new guitar player, and we are ready to rip again! Actually he was our first choice, and we are happy to have him on board. Jonas Stålhammar has been a friend since the late eighties (Tomas used to tape trade with him back then!), and our paths have crossed many times during our careers.

“We were looking for someone who had the same reference points as we do, someone from the same path, so to say, who understand the greatness of both Autopsy and King Crimson. Of course it was essential that our new member could fill the shoes of Anders’ performance-wise as well, but that was never an issue with Jonas. We were looking for someone with a deep understanding of what At The Gates are about, someone who could contribute creatively to the band.

“Jonas Stålhammar will be a full member from day one, and will play on the upcoming full length album, scheduled for recording in November 2017 – January 2018. We currently have 11 songs ready for said album, and are more inspired than perhaps ever before. You can expect a full-on At The Gates record with all the classic elements of the band. It is by far the most comprehensive album of the band to date, and will span all the way across the different elements of the band’s sound. We are super-excited for 2018. It will be a good year for At The Gates, and our fans, for sure.”

Adrian Erlandsson – Drums
Jonas Björler – Bass
Tomas Lindberg – Vocals
Jonas Stålhammar – Guitar
Martin Larsson – Guitar

Bloodway Posts “Midnight Scout” Video

Romania’s Bloodway will release a new album on November 3rd, 2017 and today a new video comes online heralding that release. Check out “Midnight Scout” — the first single from “A Fragile Riddle Crypting Clues” — in the YouTube player below.

Bloodway cements an ongoing relationship with I, Voidhanger Records with this album, closing chapter of a trilogy that started in 2014 with the “Sunstone Voyager And The Clandestine Horizon” EP and continued the following year with the band’s first full-length album, “Mapping The Moment With The Logic Of Dreams.”

Led by artist Costin Chioreanu, Bloodway blends black metal, progressive metal, heavy rock and psychedelia in equal parts, forging a very peculiar style that revolves around deep emotions and dark inner visions.

“In this new chapter the same character from the previous albums returns to the world of humans, but with a different and larger perspective, animated by his experiences and mental transformations,” Chioreanu explains. “The world is nothing but a prison, with virtual walls risen from the controlled collective intellect, where all the prisoners are locked in by themselves. Everyone is free to go and live outside the so-called system, but nobody really wants to leave the
cells for the unknown.”

1. Not Whom, But Where (feat. Tomas Lindberg) (2:21)
2. The Startling Grotesque (5:04)
3. Don’t Wake The Void (8:09)
4. Midlight Scout (6:15)
5. Prison Paradise (7:25)
6. The Incident (6:25)
7. Encounters To Pray For (4:54)
8. A Fragile Riddle Crypting Clues (feat. Mat McNerney) (5:11)

The Lurking Fear Releases “The Starving Gods Of Old” Video

Swedish death metal group The Lurking Fear will soon release debut album “Out Of The Voiceless Grave” worldwide. The album is set to drop next week on August 11th, 2017 via Century Media Records.

A new single entitled “The Starving Gods Of Old” is being launched today via a lyric video created by Costin Chioreanu / Twilight 13 Media, based on the album’s artwork by Stefan Thanneur. Check it out below.

The Lurking Fear’s vocalist Tomas Lindberg commented: “So, for the next video clip we had the idea of letting our old friend Costin work on it, but having him use Stefan’s amazing cover artwork. I think Costin really captured the eeriness of the track ‘The Starving Gods Of Old’ perfectly. It feels like you are thrown into the darkened void of the starving gods themselves, being devoured by them alive, while getting your ears blasted by another serious dose of twisted death metal madness. The song is like an anthem to what lurks beyond this world. Like watching an old 70´s horror movie on a worn out VHS cassette.”

Sign Of Cain Signs Deal With Apostasy Records

Sign Of Cain consists of well-known names like Tomer Hasenfratz (Viscera Trail), Tomy Minas (The Sin), Tuval Refaeli (Viscera Trail, Equilibrium), David Mauritzon (Razorrape) and none other than Tomas Lindberg (At The Gates, The Lurking Fear). The band just signed to Apostasy Records, with the label commenting:

“We are very honored to announce that we will put out the first sign of life of this project 18 years after its initial spark in 1999: ‘To Be Drawn And To Drown.’ Old school death metal and doom full of melancholy and sorrowful melodies, which pave their way through painful and repulsive harmonies.

“The vocals that howl from the depth of despair grabbing your insides while the uncompromising drums pound with wrath and caress every emotion put out on this record. Welcome to the wicked Apostasy family! More details in shortly.”
