Agonia Records Signs Thaw For New Album “Grains”

Three years after building a sonic monument with “Earth Ground”, Poland’s experimental black metal band Thaw returns with the brand new full-length album “Grains,” which is scheduled for a December 8th release via Agonia Records.

In the past years, the world of extreme music witnessed a monumental turn in black metal philosophy. A new, experimental approach stormed the genre and while many purists shook their heads in disapproval, a new age was already starting. As with every revolution, there were leaders and followers. While not being there for the initial spark, you can hardly call Thaw the latter. This Polish black/experimental powerhouse was founded in 2010 by members of such acclaimed acts as Mentor, ARRM and Furia. Their music boldly fuses black metal with sludge, doom and sonic experiments, along with with noise, electronics and free-impro.

Recorded during sessions scattered over various periods of time, “Grains” is not just another step forward for the already acclaimed band. The album divided into five pieces evolves in multiple directions. There is Thaw’s trademark take on black metal noise, there is drone, last but not least – there is the ability to conduct a unique narrative with music. Intensity combined with abandoning traditional structures make the new effort of one of the most forward-thinking bands an experience one of a kind. A distorted landscape where creation meets destruction perfectly painted.

“Grains” has been once again recorded and produced by THAW at Maq Records Studio and Satanic Audio. A cover painting made by Furia’s Sars as well as appearances of Maciej Morus (Mitch & Mitch, ex-Starzy Singers) and Stawrogin (Odraza) only add to the album’s mystery and weird magnetism.

The new album “Granis” will be available in CD, vinyl and digital formats. More details along with pre-orders will be announced soon. The track listing for “Grains” is:

1. The Brigand
2. The Thief
3. The Cabalist
4. The Harness
5. Wielki Piec

This fall, Thaw is touring Poland with Furia, Sacrilegium and Licho, with more dates to be announced in due time. Often praised for their energetic live appearance, Thaw has a stage history with bands such as Jucifer, Altar Of Plagues or Corrections House; they also performed at festivals including Asymmetry Festival, Metalfest, OFF Festival, Under The Black Sun, Castle Party, Inferno Festival, Primavera Sound Festival and Brutal Assault. In 2015, Thaw supported Behemoth on their European “Satanist” tour (alongside Bölzer). Upcoming dates are:

17.11.2017 (PL) – Warszawa @ Progresja
18.11.2017 (PL) – Bydgoszcz @ Estrada
19.11.2017 (PL) – Poznań @ u Bazyla
23.11.2017 (PL) – Wrocław @ A2

New Album “In Contact” Detailed By Caligula’s Horse

Caligula’s Horse, a band at the forefront of Australia’s progressive rock scene, has announced the release of the fourth studio album “In Contact,” which is set for release on September 15th via Inside Out Music. A teaser clip is available below.

As with the band’s acclaimed album “Bloom” before it, “In Contact” sees vocalist Jim Grey and lead guitarist Sam Vallen collaborating closely on the music and lyrics. Vallen comments: “In our creative process every idea is scrutinized, deconstructed, and rebuilt in a way that one of us, alone, could never achieve. We’re one another’s harshest critic, but fortunately we’ve done this for long enough now that our inspiration draws us in a similar direction – we can finish each other’s musical sentences, so to speak. And we’re lucky that’s the case, since ‘In Contact’ proved to be a much more ambitious undertaking than anything we’d conceived of in the past.”

Vocalist Jim Grey adds: “‘In Contact’ has been an enormous proposition – the stories told in this album feel deeply personal, and we’ve never been more excited to share a new work with the world. The sounds on this album are dark and adventurous – but without losing the bittersweet and joyful sounds we developed in writing Bloom.”

As with the band’s second album “The Tide, the Thief & River’s End,” the band decided to hang a concept around the entire record, taking it in a direction that would end up being the opposite of its predecessor. “We decided to create a concept album, but one that came from a more personal place: one that would facilitate our creative needs wherever the journey took us” Vallen continues. “The broader concept is based around the nature of art – of what it is that sparks creativity and inspiration, a celebration of what connects us as human beings, the shared space across our many differences.”

Taking in four separate chapters, each one is dedicated to an individual and their own personal journey and how they express themselves through art. “Each of these artists are reaching for something more in their lives, and while disconnected entirely from one another, they are united by that reach: for a better life, but also for something intangible.”

Written between late 2016 and May 2017, “In Contact” went through a rapid production/mixing/mastering process encompassing five weeks between May and June. The music felt fresh and the ideas were captured at the peak of their vitality. The music on ‘In Contact’ stretched all of the bands abilities, from the frantic speed and complexity of “Will’s Song (Let the Colours Run)” to the immense scope and variety of the 16-minute album closer, “Graves.” This is Caligula’s Horse at its most ambitious and progressive.

The full track-listing is as follows:

1. Dream the Dead
2. Will’s Song (Let the Colours Run)
3. The Hands are the Hardest
4. Love Conquers All
5. Songs for No One
6. Capulet
7. Fill My Heart
8. Inertia and the Weapon of the Wall
9. The Cannon’s Mouth
10. Graves

Lotus Thief Streaming New Song “The Book Of The Dead”

Lotus Thief is a San Francisco band that merges post-black metal, space rock, and ambient music. The group will release new album, “Gramarye,” on September 16th via Prophecy Productions.

In advance of the release of “Gramarye,” today Lotus Thief unveils new song “The Book of the Dead,” which takes inspiration from the ancient Egyptian funerary passage of the same name.

“The Book of the Dead is a beautiful text of its time, a sort of instruction manual for the afterlife compiled over about a thousand years and often inscribed on sarcophagi or tomb walls, hence the title “coffin spells,” comments multi-instrumentalist / composer Bezaelith. “For us, the song needed to be as vast and colorful as possible to approach the text, jumping from wild passages of harsh vocals to building solos, to calm ideological eyes of the storm from one moment to the next.”

1.) The Book of the Dead
2.) Circe
3.) The Book of Lies
4.) Salem
5.) Idisi

Lotus Thief Reveals New Album “Gramarye”

Lotus Thief is a San Francisco band that merges post-black metal, space rock, and ambient music, seamlessly blending the genres into a unique and greater musical whole. The group will release new album “Gramarye” on September 16th via Prophecy Productions.

Taking its name from the Lotus eaters in Homer’s epic poem “Odyssey,” Lotus Thief song lyrics bloom from age-old texts, intentionally exploring the world of the past while weaving threads to the present.

“Gramarye” compiles five different antique source texts that span nearly two thousand years and five different civilizations, ranging from the ancient Egyptian funerary passage “The Book of the Dead” to Homer’s “Odyssey” and the medieval “Merseburg Incantations” (one of the only pagan incantations still in existence in Old High German) through to the Aleister Crowley-penned early 20th century occult literature, “The Book Of Lies.”
