New Single “Chiral Ghost” Available From Terminal Function

Stockholm based technical death metal band Terminal Function dropped the first single from the upcoming new EP “Krakstören,” teaming up with Unsung Melody to premiere it over at this location. You don’t really have to go anywhere, however, since the track is also streaming in the player just at the bottom.

“Krakstören” qas recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Terminal Function in the band’s own Soundfraction Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. The EP will be released by Swedish music label Stupid Dream Records, run by the band’s guitarist, Stefan Aronsson.

On the new song, guitarist Mikael Almgren says, “The lyrics were inspired by a dream I had about meeting your past and future shadow self. I guess you could see it as a metaphor for reflecting and be aware of your past and at the same time think ahead, keeping different time perspective in your mind simultaneously.

The music alters quite a bit between the usual tech metal odd time signatures, fast parts and slow heavy sections with some haunting guitar parts, which made me think the topic of the lyrics would suit this song.”

States guitarist Ben Weinman about the breakup:

“The reason why we say why you never know if we’ll come back or whatever is you never know. Like Guns N’ Roses came back you know what I mean? But as far as I’m concerned this is it. As far as I am concerned, I don’t have any plans to be playing play in this band at all, ever again. At some point we might – who the fuck knows. It’d be stupid to say it’ll never happen cause every band says that and it’s bullshit.”

Terminal Death Material Getting Reissued Via Shadow Kingdom

Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the upcoming release of a CD’s worth of demo and rehearsal material from obscure 80’s death metal group Terminal Death on July 8th. A vinyl LP version will also be released in tandem with Hells Headbangers Records.

Based on the material, the Chicago band should have gotten high praise across the globe, but fell through the cracks without a proper record label deal. In addition to the remastered material, a nicely assembled CD booklet includes a detailed interview by Laurent of Snakepit Magazine.

Shadow Kingdom Records owner Tim McGrogan shared these words about the release:

“When you talk about the earliest death metal bands, we think of Sepultura, Death, Possessed (all stemming from VENOM) right off the top, but there were a few ripping bands that quickly fell into obscurity and Terminal Death is one of those bands. This is not just an obscure band; they could have been a HUGE death metal band if they were signed to the right label back then.

They certainly had all of the talent of the aforementioned bands. Their 1985 demo tape screams with energy and intensity! This collection is another snapshot of that amazing early Slayer-esque death metal. Co-founder Shaun Glass, whom also co-founded Sindrome, later joined the more well-known classic death metal band Broken Hope in the early 1990’s.

Shadow Kingdom Records also teamed up with Hells Headbangers Records to release this lost gem as a Double LP. If you’re into vinyl, keep your eyes peeled for it will be a glorified presentation.”
