Gemini Syndrome Releases “Sorry, Not Sorry” Video

Gemini Syndrome just debuted the “Sorry, Not Sorry” official music video. taken off the “Memento Mori” album. In addition to the video coming online, look for Gemini Syndrome on the of the “Half God, Half Devil” tour with In This Moment, Motionless In White, and Avatar later this month. The band comments:

“Our brand-new music video for ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ tells the story about a husband and wife who have lost themselves in vanity and greed. The woman injects herself with large painful needles and cuts her face, while the man chops up a briefcase full of cash and snorts it like drugs. As the wife sits down with her husband at the dinner table, she looks cartoonish, while the husband is sweating over a large mirrored plate of money. Things then really start to take a turn for the worse for them both and you gotta watch to find out their fate.

“The song itself shines a light on the collective mental illness that our society seems to be infected with. Now more than ever, it’s so easy to lose ourselves in a false virtual reality that glorifies materialism and self-seeking satisfaction. We’ve become ironic memes of ourselves, social zombies lost in our devices, where tangible human interaction has become unnecessary and burdensome. We’re desensitized from only seeing others and ourselves through self-imposed filters. It’s time to wake up from the spell and look ourselves, and each other, in the eye.

“We are also extremely grateful to be a part of the ‘Half God, Half Devil’ Tour with our friends In This Moment, Motionless In White, and Avatar. It’s an honor to be a part of this amazing package and share the stage with such great bands, and good friends, old and new. If there are still tickets available in your city, get them now, as shows have been selling out every night!”

Vesen Premieres Pre-Release Full-Album Stream Of Upcoming New Album “Rorschach”

Norwegian blackened thrashers Vesen premiere the pre-release full-album stream of the band’s upcoming new album “Rorschach”, which will arrive in stores December 16th, via Soulseller Records.

Check out now “Rorschach” in its entirety below.

Says the label of it:

“Quite uncommon for the genre, the successor of 2012’s ‘This Time It’s Personal’ is a concept album and though it may sound progressive, the music is actually more regressive in a sense. But of course Vesen explore new ideas and grounds as well and head onwards in all directions at the same time, creating a unique and matured blend. ‘Rorschach’ is a concept album, certainly lyrically, less so musically. It started out as a concept spanning four albums, but through the process of working with it we found that it fit better on a single album. Overall, it deals with themes quite common in the Vesen universe, which is mental problems. Hence the name of the album, ‘Rorschach’, which is a psychological test used to test a person’s potentially underlying thought disorders, used in mental health facilities. So without going into too much detail, ‘Rorschach’ tells the story of a person trying to escape his/her problems, and then it builds from there.”

Vow Of Thorns Announces New Album “Farewell To The Sun”

For the past six years, the Ontario-dwelling black metal doom fusionists making up Vow Of Thorns have been conceptualizing albums and pushing the boundary between aggressive and emotional.

What once served as an anagram for Kevin Hawthorne’s solo work is now a joint effort with Dustin Richards. Their new album “Farewell To The Sun” is set for release on July 15th, 2016 and follows the 2013 EP “Forest Dweller.”

Check out the album’s opening track “Meeting On The Astral Plane” below. Guitarist D. Richards comments:

“‘Meeting on the Astral Plane’ tells the story of one man’s escape from physical reality to a place of infinite possibilities; an existence free of mortal boundaries. The escape, however, is only temporary and he must return to his lowly existence and face himself, which he does in the following track ‘Great Abomination’.

“His experience on the astral plane leads him to believe that death may be the ultimate escape. As our protagonist’s experience progresses so does the music. From the triumphant march of the opening riff to the crushing doom encased ending.”

Zealotry Announces “The Last Witness” Album Release

Lavadome Productions has announced the addition of Boston-based death metal unit Zealotry to its roster. The label has set an April 22nd release for the band’s sophomore album, “The Last Witness.” Lavadome comments:

“An album that hits on all fronts with a progressive, yet schooled brand of death metal mastery, ‘The Last Witness’ is carved from the same flesh as some of the genre’s most important releases. Zealotry is a band that walks its own path, one that’s paved by a desire to push death metal to new levels, while staying true to the genre’s traditional elements.

“‘The Last Witness’ brings to life a series of massive and unsurpassable musical movements dense and complex enough to require repeated listens. The album tells the story of humanity’s end, as imagined by Arthur C. Clarke (among others). It speaks of our species’ forced ascension and assimilation, compelled by the unseen, unknowable mind that tends to the cosmic clockwork and has decided the fates of countless other races.

“Lavadome is proud to present such irreversible art which stands out above the norm instead of following it in hopes there are still ears out here, thirsty to listen on repeat and slowly uncovering the mesmerizing scales of the nature presented by ‘The Last Witness.'”

1. Arc of Eradication
2. Heralding the Black Apostle
3. Cybernetic Eucharist
4. Progeny Omega
5. Mutagenesis
6. Yliaster
7. The Last Witness
8. Silence

“Our new track “Nightmare” is the first 8-string piece we’ve written. The video tells the story of a ballerina practicing for perfection. Her deranged instructor appears only to make her do it over and over again. She keeps practicing the routine until her feet bleed, and she throws up blood. At the end, she thinks she finally got it perfect, but her instructor has had enough and decides to strangle her out of nowhere. As soon as he makes contact with her, she wakes up to realize that she was only having a nightmare.”

The Devil Wears Prada Details New “Space” EP

The Devil Wears Prada’s first official release since 2013, the conceptual “Space” EP, will be in stores on August 21st via Rise Records. Pre-orders can be placed over here

The “Space” EP is comprised of six songs and is a wholly collaborative effort, with all band members contributing – Mike Hranica (vocals), Jeremy DePoyster (rhythm guitar, clean vocals), Andy Trick (bass), Daniel Williams (drums), and touring musicians Jonathan Gering (keyboards), and Kyle Sipress (lead guitar). The end result is a collection of thematic songs that each explores a different point of view of space and those things that exist outside of the Earth’s province – the sun, the moon, aliens, asteroids, and the interstellar space explorer.

“Planet A,” tells the story of an interplanetary ship’s commander; “Alien” is straightforward and brutal, leaving no hope for the survival of mankind. Fear, arrogance and a near-incantation of what’s really important in life are at the center of “Asteroids.”

“We learned a lot from the ‘Zombie’ EP,” said Hranica of the band’s 2010 release. “We wanted each song on the ‘Space’ EP to have a specificity about it, to have its own identity separate from the others, to have its own sound, but still have them all united in concept. We talked about a lot of different themes, but ‘space’ just felt right.”

Like Zombies, “space opera” doesn’t run too close to the personal interests of Hranica. “Making this EP was a great experience because it allowed me to open up my imagination and creativity, not to be hindered by having too much knowledge of the subject and become overly analytical, being able to write a more fictional narrative. We really look forward to making more records like this.”

The “Space” EP track listing is:

1. Planet A
2. Alien
3. Moongod
4. Interlude (instrumental)
5. Supernova
6. Asteroid

Culture Killer sign with Metal Blade Records, release new single

– May 27th, 2015 –

Florida natives, Culture Killer, have signed with Metal Blade Records and are preparing to record their full length debut! Previously, the band had released the “Denial” EP in 2014, and a single “Exterminate Filth” earlier this year. Today, fans can hear a brand new cut that will be appearing on their forthcoming debut. The track, “Justice Through Retaliation“, is streaming exclusively via New Noise Magazine HERE.

Culture Killer will be tracking throughout June with Kenny Gil (Dark Sermon) at Pig Pen Recordings. On signing with Metal Blade, vocalist Ian Campbell commented: “As a group of young musicians, it comes with great honor that Culture Killer is fortunate enough to be a part of the Metal Blade Family, alongside some of the most legendary and influential bands to date. We love working with everyone on the Metal Blade staff and can’t wait to release our debut full-length through the label later this year!

The ferocity of Culture Killer‘s music and lyrics make it apparent that this band has a goal and message, and that this isn’t directionless rage. The cover art for the “Exterminate Filth” single should make this quite obvious. Drummer Dylan Blow elaborates on the topic Culture Killer tackled with “Justice Through Retaliation“: “The song tells the story of a woman fighting a seemingly endless battle with spousal abuse. She reflects on the words and feelings that she once embraced; soon realizing that the man she loved was now her greatest fear. At the turning point of the song, she finds that her only chance of survival is to kill him.

Domestic violence is an extremely disturbing and reoccurring reality. Sadly, many stories remain untold. Don’t be afraid to speak up, don’t be afraid to reach out for help, and most importantly, don’t ever feel ashamed to tell your story.

More details about the upcoming album will be made available throughout the next few months. The album is expected to be released later this year.

Culture Killer is:
Hunter Young – Guitars, vocals
Dylan Blow – Drums, vocals
Storm Bauer – Bass guitars
Ian Campbell – Vocals
Trevor Kopp – Guitar

Lordi Documentary To Play At Vancouver’s DOXA Film Festival

The Finnish documentary “Monsterman” by director Antti Haase celebrates its international premiere on Saturday, May 9th at the DOXA Documentary Film Festival in Vancouver.

“Monsterman” tells the story of the heavy metal monster band Lordi that unexpectedly won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, along with front man Tomi Putaansuu (aka Mr. Lordi): a real-life drama about a boy who wanted to be a monster and who did everything to live his dreams.

The movie was produced by Illume Ltd (Finland) in co-production with Film i Väst AB (Sweden), JAB Film AS (Norway), and Common Ground Pictures AB (Sweden). The following press release was issued about the documentary:

“As a kid Tomi Putaansuu created his own monster fantasy world, in which he – now in his early forties – still lives. The heavy metal band Lordi resulted from this world and Tomi does everything for it. In 2006 they were – against all odds – the first Finnish act ever to win the Eurovision Song Contest. Five years later, they are hundreds of thousands of euros in debt and aren’t selling any
gigs. Tomi is forced to close the Lordi-restaurant and the highlight of the year seems to be a performance for a group of Russian travel agents in the ‘Santa Claus Village’. Despite all of this, Tomi, with full support from his parents and friends, stays true to his dreams and hangs on to his ideal world of monsters. Will his faith and perseverance ensure a comeback of the band?”

Director Antti Haase comments: “Tomi and I grew up in the same town. In the early 1980s we used to play super hero games in the magic forests behind the Santa Claus Village together with the other kids from our neighborhood. I wanted to understand why I grew up to be an adult, and Tomi never did. At the same time this film shows that Lordi is not just a latex clown performing simple hard rock tunes from the 1980s. I have found a creative genius and hidden world of beauty, tragedy and comedy behind the mask of my beast friend.”

Possession Releasing New Mini-Album “1585 – 1646”

Striking while the iron is hottest, Belgium’s Possession returns with new mini-album, “1585-1646,” set for international release on June 6th, with Iron Bonehead Productions handling the vinyl pressing and Invictus Productions handling the CD pressing.

Here, the quartet goes from strength to strength, melding the best aspects of the “His Best Deceit” demo and the following “Anneliese” EP and then stirring the cauldron more potently ‘n’ poisonously.

Through these four tracks, Possession tells the story of a witch who lived in France between 1585 and 1646: on “Obscurity,” an intro sets the crucial medieval atmosphere; with “Visitation,” the future witch receives the visit of the Devil, who offers her a pact she accepts; on “Ceremony” comes the Sabbath; with “Guilty,” the Inquisitors hunt the witch, catch her, and torture her to make her confess; and at last, on “Ablaze,” the Inquisitors burn the witch.

1. Obscurity – Visitation
2. Ceremony
3. Guilty
4. Ablaze
