Keyboardist Vikram Shankar has joined progressive metal band Redemption. Nick van Dyk – the band’s guitarist and songwriter, who has also played the majority of keyboards on Redemption‘s seven studio albums – comments: “We haven’t had a dedicated keyboard player since before 2011′s ‘This Mortal Coil‘. We were very happy and fortunate to have had Greg Hosharian in the band for some time, but when Greg left to focus on composing and conducting classical music, we decided to continue without replacing him and I returned to playing keys in addition to guitar. I’m comfortable enough handling things, but at the same time, from a performance and also from a compositional standpoint, it’s always been in the back of my mind that having a dedicated keyboardist allows us to do more, sound better, and grow.”

Van Dyk continues: “Almost as soon as Tom [Englund, vocals] joined Redemption, he introduced me to Vikram by way of Vik’s YouTube channel, where Vik showcases both original compositions as well as stunning arrangements of some great progressive metal songs. I was utterly floored. This is a guy who has perfect pitch, tremendous feeling to his playing, and is absolutely a virtuoso – I mean he literally plays blindfolded to perfect his technique. I’ve never seen anything like it. Then we spent some time together, both one on one and then with the rest of Redemption, and learned he’s a terrific guy as well as a terrific musician. He came out to LA for a few days and spent some time adding some parts to our otherwise-finished upcoming release, Long Night’s Journey into Day, and it was evident that not only does he have technique and feel for miles to enhance our musicianship, but he and I share a similar compositional sensibility. We hear things the same way, plus Vikram adds fresh ideas and his tremendous talent as an arranger and writer. I can’t wait to involve him more in songwriting for future material, and we are all thrilled to have him join us on stage and in the studio. He’s an absolutely stunning talent.”

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to play alongside the talented folks in Redemption!” enthused Vikram. “The guys are wonderful musicians and wonderful people, and I can’t thank them enough for welcoming me into the fold as they have. Can’t wait to see and play for all the Redemption fans at Progpower USA and elsewhere, and for the future of our music and collaboration!”

Already confirmed to headline ProgPower USA 2018, Redemption – featuring Tom Englund (vocals; Evergrey), Nick van Dyk (guitars and keyboards), Sean Andrews (bass), Chris Quirarte (drums), Vikram Shankar (keyboards) – will release their seventh full-length album, Long Night’s Journey into Day, this summer via Metal Blade Records. The first to be produced with Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Primal Fear, Amaranthe, Doro, etc.), Long Night’s Journey into Day also features guest guitarists Chris Poland (Megadeth, OHM) and Simone Mularoni (DGM). Rhapsody Of Fire Names Manu Lotter As New Drummer

Following the departure of Alex Holzworth, Rhapsody Of Fire just issued this announcement about recruiting a new drummer:

“As promised, we are ready to reveal the name of our new drummer! We are super thrilled to announce our immediate collaboration with Manu Lotter!

“Manu is coming from Munich. Well, as you can guess, we have a lot of affinity for drummers coming from that town… To be honest, we just want to be invited regularly to beer gardens! It was nothing but a strategic move.

“Now, let’s be serious… Manu is an incredible musician who impressed us by his technique and personality. This is for sure a guy with whom we’ll spend a lot of great time on tour. Manu is a dedicated and committed professional, passionate about metal and always ready to have a nice laugh!

“He’s now 28 and started playing drums at the age of 2! He played for bands like Emil Bulls, GWLT, The Bellerophon Project, Farewell To Arms, toured all around Europe and played in almost every German metal festival.

“We can’t wait to start playing live with him. Manu will enter the studio in January to record drums for our next production. No need to say that it will sound awesome!

“We have now our 5 band members, Giacomo, Roby, Alex S., Alessandro and Manu, ready to make some noise in 2017! We feel more determined than ever to deliver the best music to our fans and celebrate our new chapter together. Stay metal and see you soon for more news.”

Entrospect Releases New Single “Awakening”

After releasing a first full-length titled “Inverse Polarity,” Chilean outfit Entrospect returns now with a new single available for free download.

“Awakening” heralds an upcoming second full-length album to be released later this year via Australis Records. Listen in below, or download your own digital copy of the single at this location.

“‘Awakening’ is a single that marks a before and after of the band” states Entrospect’s Luis Caro, adding “It has been a while between the composition of our first album and because of the internal changes in Entrospect such as the departure of out drummer Alvaro and the inclusion of Guillermo Pereira, besides the consolidation in a 100% of Sebastian as a new stable front man and now part of the band, is that this new material comes with more aggressive marks without losing the technique that characterize us.”

Power Quest Reveals New Frontman Colin Callanan

After splitting with vocalist Chity Somapala, Power Quest has now issued the following update about recruiting a new front man:

“Powerquest is pleased to finally reveal the identity of their new frontman, so please welcome Colin Callanan to the Power Quest family! Colin, 31, is from Galway, Ireland and will make his live debut with the band in Wakefield on November 27th. The show will be streamed live on the web! Previously Colin has been heard fronting his own projects Dark Crystal and Karuna. You can check out Karuna here.”

Steve Williams also commented, “We are thrilled to welcome Colin into the band. He impressed each and every one of us at his audition a couple of months back, and he really understands what Power Quest is all about. His voice and personality are exactly what we have been looking for. Welcome aboard brother!”

Colin added, “I’m really happy to be joining PQ! I’ve been following the band since their very first demo release and have already been singing PQ songs for many years to help me keep my vocal skills up to scratch. I’ve always thought it would be great to get the opportunity to sing with an internationally acclaimed outfit such as Power Quest, and was really glad when I got the invite from Steve to come over and jam with the band to see how the chemistry is. Well it was really cool hanging out with the PQ family over those days, and I tried to give them a good blast of my voice in the rehearsal room so they could see if my technique and style was what the band is after. We both agree it’s a good match, and I’m really enthusiastic about being the new voice of PQ and offering as much as I can to the band on the old songs, as well as working with the guys to write new material together. I look forward to many gigs and tours, and plenty of craic as we say in Ireland!”
