Soilwork, Monster Magnet, Skeletal Remains and Others Added To Brutal Assault Line-Up

Swedish metal eminence SOILWORK will dominate over the fortress along with the Swedish sludge/grindcorers THE ARSON PROJECT. Another great band, THE CONTORTIONIST represents fearlessness in musical expression, designed to please the artist as much as the audience.

Outstanding, shocking, unbelievable, breathtaking and many more is the Japanese self-called “brutal orchestra” VAMPILLIA. It’s not just a band, it’s something that you have to experience in order to believe it. WALLS OF JERICHO are not just noteworthy because they are a metalcore band with a screaming female on vocals. They are also worth remembering because they have been adeptly balancing old-school hardcore, thrash metal, and “chugga-chugga” metalcore with a ferocity and dedication unmatched by many of their contemporaries.

2019 marks the twenty-eighth year of PRIMORDIAL’s seminal career, and the return with their ninth full-length Exile Amongst The Ruins, they have lost none of their vitality. Once again building upon their signature sound, the follow up to 2014’s “Where Greater Men Have Fallen” is a more raw, “old school sounding” record than its predecessor. Hitting home, with what vocalist A.A. Nemtheanga describes as “a direct energy” and wielding an urgency that is undeniable, the Irish quintet once again effortlessly blends elements of Celtic folk and black metal like no one else. One thing is certain – not only the Czech fans will welcome PRIMORDIAL with a warm hug!

Picking their name from a line in Demolition Hammer’s ‘Human Dissection’, California’s SKELETAL REMAINS not only have proven their exquisite taste when finding the right moniker, but also musically by citing Death, Pestilence, early Gorguts, Morbid Angel and the afore-mentioned NY thrashers as influences. With their insanely good album Devouring Mortality, SKELETAL REMAINS are coming back to conquer what’s theirs on Brutal Assault!

Retro-rock visionaries MONSTER MAGNET spent much of the 1990s struggling against the prejudices imposed upon the image and sound by alternative rock fashion nazis. In fact, it wasn’t until that movement’s late-’90s decline that the band’s dogged persistence finally paid off and their fourth album, Powertrip, catapulted to gold sales status on the strength of its massive hard rock hit “Space Lord.” In the meantime, MONSTER MAGNET managed to become one of the most successful and influential bands associated with the so-called underground “stoner rock” scene. Nowadays, it seems a little bit off to call them underground band, since these guys are a huge deal.

All thrashers, beware! DEMOLITION HAMMER are coming to set things straight in the fortress! New York City’s one of the best thrash acts are back with a helluva record Tortured Existence, which shows the band in their best shape!

An absolute honor is to announce legends of psychedelic rock, Chicago based act full of witchery and surrounded by mystical magic – COVEN! This is the first band which brought sign of horns to metal music. The first band using occult lyrics and singing about satanism and the first satanic band which had a big song in charts. Jinx Dawson spawned COVEN in late 2016 with a new line-up to arrange more sabbaths all over the world and we are pleased to say that one of these magical sessions will happen on Brutal Assault!

Back in the day, a claim was made about the HELLHAMMER, that this band will never come back, because it’s absolutely impossible to reform a band so closely linked to a very specific and unique time period. However, here we are, standing before something that will remind us of these times – Tom Gabriel brings us TRIUMPH OF DEATH! It is a project with an open end. Apart from vague considerations to, perhaps, release an occasional live EP, Triumph Of Death will not record any new music but is solely dedicated to performing both well-know and obscure Hellhammer songs.

And there you have it. Will there be more??? Keep your eyes on Metalunderground.com’s Brutal Assault updates to stay informed on all additions!

Marvel Releases Monster Magnet Cover “Powertrip”

It’s the first Friday in the month, it means a new Guilty Pleasure by Märvel. This time the band has Märvelized Monster Magnets classic hit “Power Trip.” The Swedish power-trio have filled the track with energy and kept original songs groove. Power Trip is perhaps best known for being a monster hit of the ’90s. Märvel, however, shows that the song is more than just a ’90s throwback, its a great piece of Rock N Roll.

The first Friday each month Märvel is releasing a new track from their upcoming album “Guilty Pleasure.” The song is preceded by a music quiz about the upcoming song on the band’s facebook page. The first of February the band releases their version of Monster Magnets hit “Power Trip.” Earlier the band have released Guilty Pleasures as Dire Straits – “Sultans of Swing,” REO Speedwagon – “Keep Pushin”‘ and Rick Derringer – “Rock & Roll, Hoochie Koo.” The album “Guilty Pleasure” is out 12th of April on The Sign Records.

Athanasia Posts Debut Album “The Order Of The Silver Compass” Teaser Trailer

Los Angeles-based metal trio Athanasia – featuring former members of Five Finger Death Punch, Sebastian Bach and Murderdolls – will release its upcoming full-length album, “The Order Of The Silver Compass,” on March 15th via Seeing Red Records and Rock Of Angels Records. This one-minute teaser showcases clips of several tracks from the band’s scorching debut and can be seen below.

One might not expect the former members of such bands to be rooted in the fabric of extreme metal, but Athanasia is more than your average power trio. Questioning the moral fabric of man amidst complex narratives tackling power, corruption and greed, the band’s unique amalgamation of melodic metal is enough to satisfy the desires of casual listeners and extreme metal fans alike.

Recorded and produced by Bingham at Nightmare Sound, The Order Of The Silver Compass embodies all things heavy, dark and stylish. The album’s eight tracks were mixed by Chris Collier (Prong, Flotsam And Jetsam, Metal Church) at Mission:Black Studios and mastered by Joe Bozzi (Mastodon, L.A. Guns) at Bernie Grundman Mastering, while Jorden Haley (Dååth, Deicide, Mindless Self Indulgence) handled the cover art and design.

Athanasia was founded in California by guitarist Caleb Bingham under the band’s original name Ascension. As a result of passing the band’s early demos around LA’s Sunset Strip, the young guitarist landed a gig with newly-formed Five Finger Death Punch in 2005. Upon being released from the group in 2007 due to his age, Bingham continued to write under the name Ascension, recording several more unreleased demos (and one EP) at the behest of veteran Roadrunner Records A&R Monte Conner. Largely due to the label’s merger with WMG, negotiations broke down and the band was once again shelved while Bingham played with Swedish death metal act Zonaria from 2010-2014. After parting ways with Zonaria due to a leg injury sustained while playing with the group, Bingham decided to put all his efforts back into what he worked so hard to create…

Joined by bassist Brandon Miller and veteran drummer Jason West (Murderdolls, Wednesday 13, Sebastian Bach), Caleb Bingham resurrected the project under a new moniker, Athanasia, diligently recording its first full-length release over the span of several years.

“I’m very proud to announce that after years of literal blood, sweat, tears and countless hours of hard work, Athanasia’s debut LP The Order Of The Silver Compass is finally about to see the light of day,” says frontman Caleb Bingham. “Blast it in the car and you’ll notice your gas pedal hitting the floor in a matter of seconds! m/”

Ghost Posts New Webisode “The Visit” Online

Today, multi-Grammy-nominated Swedish rock band Ghost releases “Chapter 6: The Visit,” the latest video in the band’s narrative webisode series. In “Chapter 5: The Call,” Sister Imperator, who was recuperating from a horrible car crash, discussed the merits and failings of “The Omen” feature film franchise while on the phone with Papa Nihil. In “Chapter 6: The Visit,” the story continues. Check it out below.

Twenty-nineteen is already looking to be a stellar year for Ghost. Following the band’s critically-acclaimed Fall 2018 North American tour where the itinerary included the band’s first headline – and sold out – arena shows – the Los Angeles Forum and Montreal’s Place Bell – Ghost will take its “A Pale Tour Named Death” to Europe, launching on February 3 in Lyon, France. Frontman Cardinal Copia will take a short break for a quick trip to Los Angeles where he will attend The Grammys on February 10 as the band is nominated in two categories: Best Rock Album for Prequelle and Best Rock Song for “Rats,” the song that held the 2018 record for most weeks at #1 at Rock Radio, a total of eight. In 2016, Ghost took home its first Grammy for its song “Circe” as “Best Metal Performance.” This summer, Ghost will be Special Guest on all four legs of Metallica’s “Worldwired” European Stadium tour that starts May 1 in Lisbon, Portugal.

Voivod, Animals as Leaders plus others added to Brutal Assault line-up

The only predictable thing about Canadian cosmic-metal warriors Voivod is that they will forever be unpredictable. On the warpath for more than 35 years, Voivod have pushed their sound relentlessly forward, constructing imaginative musical realms with each endeavor. They literally changed the face of thrash metal in the ‘80s, forged new prog-metal ground in the ‘90s, and kept up with changing times and lineups in the 2000s with fresh, inspired music and they’re back with a new album The Wake, which keeps pushing the limits!

Appearing in 2002, even before the rebirth of thrash metal scene worldwide, Violator was formed with the purpose of rescuing the spontaneity and anger that seemed forgotten in the metal scene. Coming from the center Brazil, Brasilia, Violator is one of the most intense South American bands and after years of waiting, they will finally thrash Brutal Assault! Doing so they will be joined by masked Swedish crossover deviants Dr. Living Dead and legendary veterans of Boston HC scene Slapshot! Ensiferum are true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal and with their latest output Two Paths they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre, so it was about a time they returned to Brutal Assault!

Polish death machine Decapitated is back with a bang! Their new album Anticult highlights just how vital have remained two decades deep into their career. They have long been undeniable masters of their craft and they are expanding their parameters with this album, which should elevate the band’s profile beyond the death metal realm in which it has dominated for years. And now they’re coming for the Brutal Assault crowd! And speaking of technical death metal, of all the amazing technical death metal bands out there, very few can write memorable catchy songs with extreme technicality like French killers Gorod. Get ready for intelligent, deftly crafted flights of musicianship…that will rip your head off!Sometimes, a band’s music registers just as seismically on an emotional wavelength as it does on a sonic spectrum. And one of those unique bands are Animals as Leaders, who re imagine, reinterpret, and refresh instrumental prog, experimental metal, modern jazz, alternative, and even world music to a point where the reaction becomes primal. Consistently delivering a captivating show, their show will surely be one of the musicianship highlights of the festival.

New York’s Car Bomb detonate a vicious blast of wildly technical and progressive modern metal. The Long Island quartet’s attack is relentless and suffocating: vicious jazz-inspired blasts shift into mechanistic, canyon-wide grooves. Schizophrenic, whisper-to-a-scream vocals seem to spiral out of control, only to snap back lock-step into the churning assault. Make sure to witness their Brutal Assault debut! Progressive Swedes Letters from the Colony had proven that they could marry various elements of death metal, metalcore and jazz into a complex hybrid and produce something strangely familiar yet truly original. And this list finished with Chinese atmospheric black metal Zuriaake.

After a highly successful touring run across North America together with Behemoth and Wolves In The Throne Room, Swedish melodic death metal pioneers, At The Gates, are not only starting a special short run of European dates today in Greece, but are also announcing the release of two EPs for early January.

To enhance the beginning of their massive European tour with Behemoth and Wolves In The Throne Room, At The Gates will be releasing both a strictly limited 7″ EP entitled “The Mirror Black,” and a special Digital EP entitled “With The Pantheons Blind,” on January 11th.

The 7“ EP features the two songs “The Mirror Black” and “Daggers Of Black Haze” off At The Gates‘ current album, “To Drink From The Night Itself,” in the versions that come with guest vocals by Rob Miller (Amebix, Tau Cross).

Tracklisting:

Side A:
“The Mirror Black” (Featuring Rob Miller)

Side B:
“Daggers Of Black Haze” (Featuring Rob Miller)

This collectors item is limited to 1000x copies worldwide, split up as follows:

– Black 7Inch: 400x copies (CM Distro Europe Wholesale & Onlineshop)
– Golden 7Inch: 100x copies (CM Europe Onlineshop)
– Clear 7Inch: 300x copies (CM Distro Europe Wholesale & Onlineshop)

On the other hand, the digital EP, With The Pantheons Blind, contains all six bonus tracks from To Drink From The Night Itself recording sessions, now available digitally for the first time: “Daggers Of Black Haze” and “The Mirrow Black” featuring guest vocals by Rob Miller (Amebix, Tau Cross), “The Chasm” featuring guest vocals by Per Boder (God Macabre), “A Labyrinth Of Tombs” featuring guest vocals by Mikael Nox Pettersson (Craft), a demo version of “The Chasm” and a merciless re-recorded version of the early At The Gates classic “Raped By The Light Of Christ”, originally featured on the band’s sophomore album, With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness, from 1993.

Tracklisting:

“The Chasm” (Featuring Per Boder)

“Raped By The Light Of Christ” (2018)
“The Chasm” (Demo Version)
“The Mirror Black” (Featuring Rob Miller)

The pre-order for this digital release starts next week, December 7th, 2018.

At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg checked in with the following comment about the 7” EP release: “The idea of getting guest vocalists on board for the bonus tracks for the album was us trying something new again…This time we wanted to get other artists involved in our music, getting their takes on our new songs. It was a pleasure working with everybody and all songs grew immensely in the process. The songs we did with Rob Miller was for me personally something extra. Of course, people who know me, know that I am a massive Amebix fan. And I love the more recent stuff with Tau Cross too. I had no idea what to expect. But the songs grew so goddamn much together with Rob‘s powerful voice. We decided early on that these versions were worthy of their own release. This is for me personally one of the greatest achievements of my career, to share the vocal space with one of my favourite vocalists of all time. I am so proud of this release. Hope everyone else gets as much joy out of it as I do.”

Metal Underground caught up with At The Gates guitarist Martin Larsson at this year’s Bloodstock Open Air festival, in which the musician hinted that new music could come sooner than people expect.
