Mantar Teases New Music Video, “Taurus”

German black/doom/punk chimera Mantar will release their third studio album The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze on August 24th via Nuclear Blast. Pre-order the album here, and check out a teaser for the upcoming “Taurus” music video below.

Mantar have achieved more in five years than most bands twice their age and size. The product of a twenty year friendship between guitarist/vocalist Hanno Klaenhardt and drummer Erinc Sakarya, theirs is a success story born entirely of one thing: hard work, with three albums, an EP and a live release already to their name. Releasing their 2014 Svart Records debut Death By Burning, an uncompromising clash of stripped-back punk attitude and metal intensity to instant critical acclaim, the band toured relentlessly, gracing stages the world over, including the hallowed likes of Roadburn, Wacken Open Air and Maryland Deathfest. They used 2016’s Ode To The Flame, their Nuclear Blast Records debut, to further build upon their incendiary live reputation, conquering not only Europe and the US, but Russia, Japan and South Africa.

Now, following a brief period of repose which saw Hanno move to Florida, Mantar return with The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze, a short, sharp shock that hones the hungry riffs and breath-taking pace of their previous records. “We skipped the bullshit,” explains Hanno. “I wanted 3 or 4 minute songs; bam, bam, bam. Every song different, catchy – that’s what rock and roll is about.”

Church Of Void Inks Deal With Argonauta Records

Hailing from the barren wasteland of Finland, Church of Void is a five man doom rock band. Founded in 2010 by vocalist Magus Corvus and G. Funeral (ex-Horna, Battlelore), the band’s first sign of life was the limited run EP “Winter Is Coming.”

After a 2013 LP released by Finland’s own Svart Records and a handful of split releases, the band has now found a new home with the Italian Argonauta Records. The label comments:

“Drawing influence from traditional doom such as Saint Vitus and Pentagram as well as grim rockers like Mana Mana, Church of Void blends their music into upbeat killers, slow-as-snail crushers and vintage hard rock. With five strong songwriters and performers Church of Void is an act to recognize, people either love or loathe them.

“Church of Void has left its mark on Finnish doom in addition to bringing grief and ecstasy to other European nations such as Estonian, Swedes and Brits. Church of Void is looking forward to playing in your local CD player. More info will follow soon.”

PH Announces New Album “Eternal Hayden”

Finnish group PH – formerly known as Mr. Peter Hayden – is back with new full-length offering “Eternal Hayden,” which will be released through Svart Records on March 10th, 2017.

The release will be celebrated by a Scandinavian tour in March and the rest of Europe during the fall of this year. Today PH’s new track “Reach” comes online and can be heard below.

“This album is all about letting go and achieving, reaching something more after giving up everything,” comments the band. “It is a guide to spiritual growth, ascension, and overall progression towards freedom. At the same time, it is a pre-written vision coming true aptly depicting our journey as a band and a spiritual entity.”

“The trilogy started as an experiment, but became an experience as we were caught within it,” the band further explains on this latest offering in the PH discography. “In the end, it also become a guide for others to go through the same journey and to gain what we have gained. And only after reaching the archdimension were we able to write and perform this album. Also being born again, we felt obligated to simplify our name from ‘Mr. Peter Hayden’ to the PH monogram, which we have used as our insignia for over 15 years already.”

Abhorrence Releasing “Totally Vulgar – Live at Tuska Open Air 2013”

Abhorrence’s comeback to the live arena after 23 years of lying in wait in the grave took place in the black summer of 2013. Svart Records was also there, capturing all 35 minutes of the bone-grinding mayhem and cadaveric incantations spewn forth from the stage.

After an unholy gestation period, the live material is now being let out to wreak havoc and cause grievous bodily and mental harm to the general public. Abhorrence is still old school, still undead, and unclean. This will all be proven by “Totally Vulgar – Live at Tuska Open Air 2013,” set for international release on February 10th via Svart Records.

The release of “Totally Vulgar: and a set of live appearances during 2017 also mark the end of an era, says vocalist Jukka Kolehmainen: “With this album and live rituals, we lay the old songs to their tomb. Then it is time to face new, upcoming dark depths and see what secrets lurk therein.”

1. Intro – The Cult
2. Pestilential Mists
3. Holy Laws of Pain
4. Devourer of Souls
5. Caught in a Vortex
6. Adoration of Abscessed Cadavers
7. Pleasures of Putrid Flesh
8. Disintegration of Flesh
9. Vulgar Necrolatry

Hymn Releasing New Album “Perish”

Today, Svart Records sets February 17th, 2017 as the international release date for Hymn’s debut album, “Perish.” Hailing from the Oslo underground, Hymn has paved the way forward with multiple full stacks, hard-hitting drumming, and an uncompromising approach to volume and tonality.

A statement from the band reads: “A long, loud, thorough, emotional, and really fun process is finally documented into approximately 50 minutes of music, titled ‘Perish.’ The last year has surely been a defining one for us, and we are really proud of the result. The album is definitely a more brutal, more refined, and a much colder experience than our self-titled EP from 2013, and we do feel that this album really represents where we want to be musically right now.

“It’s recorded, mixed, and mastered by Kim Lillestøl at Amper Tone studio in Oslo, and we pretty much recorded the whole thing in 48 intense hours. We are really looking forward to take the album on the road, and are are super-stoked that Svart Records wants to release it.”

2. Rise
3. Serpent
4. Hollow
5. Spectre
6. Perish

Kairon; Irse! Releasing New Album “Ruination”

Progressive shoegazing? Music of the outer spheres? An irrevocably mentally unstable Gentle Giant and a severely alcoholic Todd Rundgren having a love child which, after being adopted to Russia, finds himself performing a rock opera in the Ural Mountains? It is typical of the human mind to try and classify things, but when confronted with Kairon; Irse! many are at a loss for words.

Behind the odd band name are four inner space travelers from western Finland. The group has wrapped up work on new album “Ruination,” which will be released by Svart Records on February 3rd, 2017 on CD, double LP, and digital formats.

1. Sinister Waters I
2. Sinister Waters II
3. Llullaillaco
4. Starik
5. Porphyrogennetos

Trees Of Eternity Posts “Hour Of The Nightingale” Lyric Video

Today, atmospheric doom metallers Trees of Eternity reveal an animated lyric video for the track “Hour of the Nightingale.”

The song is the title track to debut album, “Hour of the Nightingale,” now set for international release on November 25th via Svart Records and available for full streaming here.

Born out of the partnership of singer-songwriter Aleah Starbridge and guitarist-composer Juha Raivio, Trees of Eternity began as a quiet acoustic collaboration but then sprouted into a full band, with the Norrman brothers (ex-Katatonia, October Tide) on stringed instruments and the ubiquitous Kai Hahto on drums.

Three years of work on the group’s debut album were tragically cut short this spring when Aleah passed away during the album’s final post-production phase. You can read our full review here.
