Korpiklaani Posts New Music Video, “Harmaja” Online

Finnish Folk Metal Superstars Korpiklaani are set to release their new studio album ‘Kulkija’ (‘Wanderer’) on September 7th 2018 via Nuclear Blast. Today, the band have unveiled the second single, “Harmaja,” in the form of a thought-provoking music video. Watch the clip, directed by Ville Lipiäinen (Nightwish, Beast In Black, Powerwolf), below.

Says Jonne; “‘Harmaja’ is an unusual Korpiklaani song with its slow tempo and emotional strength. The song is about longing and I managed to charge it with a great emotional atmosphere. When making the album we mostly used the first takes; we didn’t get stuck in details when there was no particular need to.

“I was surprised – although in a positive sense – that Nuclear Blast wanted to release ‘Harmaja’ as a single and a video. Usually they prefer more uptempo, fun drinking songs. The new album ‘Kulkija’ of course has that material too since being over an hour long it contains the entire scope of different emotions.

“I bought a new classical guitar and started to re-acquaint myself with the 5-finger picking technique. I created a finger exercise that then formed the basis of the song. I sent a very basic version of the song to our lyricist Tuomas Keskimäki who, in the same evening, sent back the lyrics for ‘Harmaja’. The text refers to ‘Sylvian Joululaulu’, a well known poem about longing by Zachris Topelius. I sang the demo in my home studio immediately and that was it – the song felt good and strong right away and I knew that it was going to end up on the album.

“The video was shot in the pool of the Maritime Safety Training Centre in Lohja. The water was so cold that even constant visits to the sauna couldn’t stop the coldness from creeping into my bones. It was very difficult to remember the lyrics, keep my head above the surface of the water and sing – while at the same time trying to look like I wasn‘t freezing to death. All for art!

“Lipiäinen knew exactly what was needed for the video and managed to create just the right atmosphere. Lipiäinen knew exactly what was needed for the video and managed to create just the right atmosphere. The shots change slowly, there is no rush with anything and the story stays just right above the surface until the more stormy ending.”

Vomit Angel Announces “Sadomatic Evil” Mini-Album Release

Iron Bonehead Productions has set February 17th, 2017 as the international release date for Vomit Angel’s debut mini-album, “Sadomatic Evil,” coming on 12″ vinyl.

Although “Sadomatic Evil” is the Danish duo’s debut recording, Vomit Angel comprise two founding members of Sadogoat, who preceded the bestial metal resurgence by many years, and who later wielded more influence on the black/death underground as Sadomator, releasing three pivotal LPs on Iron Bonehead that perfected the Blasphemy/Beherit axis to a T.

Now, under the banner of Vomit Angel, Necrodevil and Lord Titan aim for an equally scuzzy attack that’s less categorizably “bestial” on the surface. On that surface, instead, is a pulsing, slimy spew of gangrenous primitivism somewhere between the very earliest death and black metal in the South American tradition. No hope, no fun, no sobriety: this is Vomit Angel’s “Sadomatic Evil!”

1. Sadomator
2. Time Travel
3. Cotard
4. Voices in the Wind
5. Host of Darkness
6. Time of the Moon
7. Blasting Black Goat Attack
8. Female Goat Perversion

Avatar Posts “Night Never Ending” Music Video

Avatar just unleashed another visually stunning music video with longtime director Johan Carlén at the helm. Check out the new clip for “Night Never Ending” below.

“It’s is a special song, being probably the most upbeat and, dare I say, happy piece we’ve ever released,” says frontman Johannes Eckerström. “But under the surface of the fragile message of hope and fighting spirit it is little more than a prelude to a tragedy and that is what we set out to capture when we decided to make a video for it.

“It is very close to my heart for being the one video where there is no ‘rocking out’ going on and we get to capture a side of Avatar that is just as integral as the good, headbanging times we love sharing with our supporters all around the world. There are few things in this world as beautiful and fascinating as contrasts and this is what all of ‘Feathers & Flesh’ is all about. Hope and tragedy.”

Without Mercy Posts “Burn” Music Video

Vancouver, BC’s Without Mercy welcomes fans to the depths of hell with the premiere of a new music video for “Burn,” which is in support of upcoming EP “Mouichido,” set for release on May 27th.

Guitarist DJ Temple comments: “On the surface, ‘Burn’ shows a decent into hell. The imagery and content seems to follow the rhetoric of a burning and painful afterlife. In reality, ‘Burn’ is actually about the decent into madness.

“Your own personal hell while you battle your inner demons and face your own addictions. Listeners of this song can hear references to famous depictions of damnation from other literary worlds and even a very famous video game.”
