Athanasia Posts Debut Album “The Order Of The Silver Compass” Teaser Trailer

Los Angeles-based metal trio Athanasia – featuring former members of Five Finger Death Punch, Sebastian Bach and Murderdolls – will release its upcoming full-length album, “The Order Of The Silver Compass,” on March 15th via Seeing Red Records and Rock Of Angels Records. This one-minute teaser showcases clips of several tracks from the band’s scorching debut and can be seen below.

One might not expect the former members of such bands to be rooted in the fabric of extreme metal, but Athanasia is more than your average power trio. Questioning the moral fabric of man amidst complex narratives tackling power, corruption and greed, the band’s unique amalgamation of melodic metal is enough to satisfy the desires of casual listeners and extreme metal fans alike.

Recorded and produced by Bingham at Nightmare Sound, The Order Of The Silver Compass embodies all things heavy, dark and stylish. The album’s eight tracks were mixed by Chris Collier (Prong, Flotsam And Jetsam, Metal Church) at Mission:Black Studios and mastered by Joe Bozzi (Mastodon, L.A. Guns) at Bernie Grundman Mastering, while Jorden Haley (Dååth, Deicide, Mindless Self Indulgence) handled the cover art and design.

Athanasia was founded in California by guitarist Caleb Bingham under the band’s original name Ascension. As a result of passing the band’s early demos around LA’s Sunset Strip, the young guitarist landed a gig with newly-formed Five Finger Death Punch in 2005. Upon being released from the group in 2007 due to his age, Bingham continued to write under the name Ascension, recording several more unreleased demos (and one EP) at the behest of veteran Roadrunner Records A&R Monte Conner. Largely due to the label’s merger with WMG, negotiations broke down and the band was once again shelved while Bingham played with Swedish death metal act Zonaria from 2010-2014. After parting ways with Zonaria due to a leg injury sustained while playing with the group, Bingham decided to put all his efforts back into what he worked so hard to create…

Joined by bassist Brandon Miller and veteran drummer Jason West (Murderdolls, Wednesday 13, Sebastian Bach), Caleb Bingham resurrected the project under a new moniker, Athanasia, diligently recording its first full-length release over the span of several years.

“I’m very proud to announce that after years of literal blood, sweat, tears and countless hours of hard work, Athanasia’s debut LP The Order Of The Silver Compass is finally about to see the light of day,” says frontman Caleb Bingham. “Blast it in the car and you’ll notice your gas pedal hitting the floor in a matter of seconds! m/”

New Video Clip “Enigma” Issued By Salems Lott

Hollywood-based shock rock/metal act Salems Lott has been making a name on the Sunset Strip since its inception in 2013, selling out venues such as House of Blues, The Whisky A Go Go, The Roxy and Viper Room countless times. Performing a heavy speed metal sound mixed with shocking theatrics and an even more surprising look, the band has amassed fans from here to Japan with their antics and sound.

With the recent release of part one of the new two-part album series “Mask Of Morality,” the band delves into socially-conscious themes on individualism, values, morality and current politics. One of the more eye-opening tracks on the album, entitled “Enigma,” focuses on freedom of speech on both sides of the societal coin.

The band issued a brand new music video for “Enigma,” which was directed by Ian Moore and produced by UWOWI. The video features custom anime-style animation depicting the band in a dystopian society whose people are on the verge of battle with one another. The battle stems from the dissolving of individualism and a hyper-focus on equality. Watch it in the player below.

Lead guitarist Jett Black says, “The anime portion portrays a hypothetical fictional future in which the ideology of equality attains complete dominance. Wealth, prosperity, individualism are ostracized and violently subdued. Conversely, equality and collectivism are promoted to its utter extreme. These two opposing views inevitably battle it out. Throughout the video the band symbolizes the lost archetype of yang – order – the father and all of the archetypal elements embodied. In contrast, the authoritative figures of the future and the violent activists of the modern day, embody the extreme archetype of yin – chaos – the overbearing mother.”

Black adds, “Freedom of speech is the mechanism in which a healthy society remains balanced and not swayed by either extreme. In the video, we see the signs of an unbalanced extreme being pushed forward through violent suppression of free speech (opposing views). This is something we are seeing today more commonly and would ultimately lead to a Marxist ‘utopian’ future as the one depicted in the anime. Hence the title “Enigma” (other than censorship reasons): The nature of an ideology that is deeply damaging/authoritative but masquerades under the innocent good intentioned guise of compassion (while any opposing view is vilified), which makes it so mysterious, ambiguous and hard to identify as the problem. The shadowy figure silencing individuals through force and its extended intimidation.”

Lemmy Kilmister Wall Mural Unveiled At Lemmy’s Lounge

Lemmy’s Lounge, located in the outdoor patio at the world-famous Rainbow Bar and Grill on LA’s Sunset Strip, just got a very big addition – a 20 foot high mural of the man himself.

Already situated in Lemmy’s Lounge is a bronze statue immortalizing the Motörhead singer. The life-size sculpture – based on a famous Lemmy photograph by Robert John – features shades of black and metallic bronze throughout, with detailed lines and strategic crevices capturing Kilmister’s familiar features, from his bristly whiskers to his infamous moles to his signature hat and boots.

In memory of rock’s greatest front man, the patio where Lemmy spent most of his life when not on the road or in the studio was dedicated to him by naming this area Lemmy’s Lounge, thanks to Rainbow owner Mikael Maglieri.

Roxy owner Nic Adler and Paul Tollett of Goldenvoice subsequently agreed to allow the painting of a celebratory mural commemorating the life of Lemmy and Motorhead on the side wall of the Roxy, opposite Lemmy’s Lounge and statue.

Motörhead’s management ran a contest seeking a muralist painter, and the winner was Jules Muck. Although it was not known at the time she was chosen, Jules was born in the same U.K. town as Lemmy, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Like Lemmy, she’s now adopted Los Angeles as her home.

Motörhead manager Todd Singerman says, “This is for the fans. Lemmy would always say, at every show, ‘We are Motörhead, and we play rock ‘n’ roll. Don’t forget us.’ That’s my job now.”

To that end, the statue and mural appear to be only the beginning of a series of plans to honor the band and its beloved frontman. Singerman’s current efforts include working on opening another Lemmy’s Lounge as well as a museum dedicated to the group.

Music Video For New Song “Renegade Protest Movement” Issued By Heaven Below

US rock/metal band Heaven Below, which features Union Underground/Lita Ford guitarist Patrick Kennison, released the first official video for the song “Renegade Protest Movement.” The track is taken from their umcoming album “Good Morning Apocalypse,” due out via David Ellefson‘s EMP Label Group/eOne Entertainment (USA) and SPV (Europe) on Friday, October 14th.

The band’s third full-length studio effort, is a concept record that is set in a post-apocalyptic world. It features guest appearances from Lita Ford, Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys, Broken Teeth, Watchtower), Udo Dirkschneider(U.D.O., Accept) and Kobra Paige (Kobra and the Lotus). The video can be seen in the player below.

Fronted by Kennison, who also handles guitar duties, Heaven Below has been breaking ground in L.A. for several years with their brand of progressive hard rock/metal, self-releasing three LPs and a series of EPs, spawning several active rock hits, including “When Daylight Dies,” and the band’s monstrous take on Rush’s “Subdivisions”, featuring a guest appearance from the one and only William Shatner.

Says Kennison: “Nearly 4 years ago the band and I decided that we’d like to start working on a concept record. We knew how ambitious it sounded to even consider that, but once several legendary artists offered to help make it become a reality, we knew we had something.”

He continues: “With over 30 songs written, we narrowed it down to the top 12. Udo Dirkschneider, Lita Ford, Jason McMaster, and Kobra Paige all stepped up to lend their amazing talents. We feel this album is a powerful culmination of old school metal meets current fresh metal. This kind of undertaking only comes along once in a lifetime, and we think we captured the moment on ‘Good Morning Apocalypse.’ The timing was perfect with EMP’s outside of the box approach to new music.”

The track list for “Good Morning Apocalypse” is:

1. Nefarious Angels (feat. Jason McMaster)
2. Renegade Protest Movement
3. Follow Me Under
4. Devilina And The Damage Done (feat. Kobra Paige)

12. I Would Do It All Again/Burials At Sunset

Luís Kalil Releases “If” Music Video

16-year-old Brazilian guitar prodigy Luís Kalil has launched a new music video for the song “If,” taken from Kalil’s sophomore album “Sunset Daredevil.” Check it out below.

Kalil states: “‘If’ is a song that talks about the power of this word – how many possibilities and parallel lives it opens in our mind, how much it influences ourselves and our future decisions. The melodies and riffs really touch me, and once I wrote it I knew it would be perfect for my first music video.

“The music video was produced by the prizewinning film-maker Ulisses da Mota, who brought an awesome crew to work along with us. I’m really excited about it and I hope everyone can get the same feel listening and watching this!”

Featuring nine original tracks, including six instrumental and three with Jonathas Pozo in charge of the vocals, Sunset Daredevil was produced by Renato Osório and mixed and mastered by Benhur Lima. Cover artwork comes courtesy of Tiago Masseti and the track listing is as follows:
