Agrimonia Announces New Album “Awaken” & Posts Trailer

Agrimonia returns with their fourth album release, and second for Southern Lord, Awaken, now set for release through Southern Lord on January 26th. See the trailer for Agrimonia’s “Awaken” below.

Awaken arrives ten years since the release of their first album, and Agrimonia has evolved notably over that period. Their sound has always been dense, immersive, ambitious even, and on Awaken, the band has evolved their prog-infused form of expansive metal into something energetic, dynamic, and powerful. On Awaken, the band digs deep into their subconscious, trying to get an elevated state of mind, to connect the mind with sound and to find the combination of notes and melodies that evolves into a feeling or mood. Agrimonia channels the bittersweet aspects of life, and breathe air into thoughts that cannot easily be put into words.

About Awaken the band comments, “We are thrilled to see the release of our fourth album Awaken. We are very proud of the outcome and feel that the album is our most dynamic and vital yet, and contains more of everything that is Agrimonia. Awaken is the soundtrack to our existence, and I hope other people can feel that way too.”

Awaken was produced by Agrimonia, and mixed and mastered by Henrik Udd who also worked on the previous recording Rites of Separation, then under the Studio Fredman banner but now under his own name, Henrik Udd Recording Studios.

Bardspec Streaming New Track “Bone”

Today another track comes online from the debut album “Hydrogen” by Bardspec, the ambient project featuring Enslaved guitarist Ivar Bjørnson and Today Is The Day’s Steve Austin.

“Bone” in Bjørnson’s words is, “a song that is a meditation upon the concepts of strength and endurance, in the micro and the macro. How evolution has made us upright and made to be on the move – and how hard it can be to adapt those features into the realms of our psyche – so that we can undergo the mental evolution that is dormant within us.”

This idea of micro and macro represents the very essence of Bardspec, which is thematically and sonically about minimizing, subtracting and meditating upon the simplest essence of “things;” the single points, exemplified through the song titles like “Bone,” “Salt” and so on; the basic elements and foundations that make up the whole. There is an element of “space” in the music and the artwork, as a representation of the inner workings of the mind and the subconscious.

“Hydrogen” will be released on June 23rd across all formats, with previous song “Fire Tongue” available over here.

Fumigation Releasing Split CD With The Path To R’lyeh

Like a Lovecraftian novel, death metal knows no bounds. It’s themes are often filled with outlandish creatures and horrors that challenge the everyday monotony of our existence. It’s through these musical and lyrical themes that we are afforded an opportunity to truly be free… to live among the creatures that dwell in our subconscious minds.

Straight from the deepest, darkest recesses of the mind is born a partnership of musical aberration crawling from the murk as Fumigation and The Path To R’lyeh come together. This brutal two-some joined forces for a CDN Records split CD, aptly-titled “Invasion.”

Novembre Streaming Full New “URSA” Album

Novembre, Italy’s atmospheric death/doom metal purveyor, is now streaming upcoming seventh studio album “URSA” in full before it releases tomorrow on Peaceville. Listen in below, and for more details, be sure to catch our interview with the band here.

“URSA” is still available to pre-order on CD and LP from the Peaceville webstore. Band member Carmelo Orlando commented:

“This album is a very important step in my life. It got me closer to what some may call ‘maturity.’ I’ve been able to delve even deeper into the chasm of the subconscious and unearth gems I didn’t think existed. Lyrically and conceptually I explored new shores. I moved my ever-inwards headlights, and for the first time I dared to point them outwards, against the squalor of this Orwellian apocalypse we’re committing towards the Earth and its sons, on a daily basis, in quasi-total indifference.”

Lyric Video For New Track “Umana” Available From Novembre

Novembre, Italy’s atmospheric death/doom metal purveyor, has released the first track “Umana” from its new album “URSA,” due to be released on April 1st via Peaceville. View the “Umana” lyric video below.

Founding member and writer Carmelo Orlando commented on the track: “‘Umana’ (Italian for ‘humane’) is quite an old track, maybe eight years old, but it somehow managed to remain fresh. It’s the first step into our new era, where songs got rid of useless frills and soar up above more easily. Also, lyrically, we expanded into new territories, a no man’s land where philosophy, sociology and psychology meet. We let a giant like philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti speak for us.”

“URSA” is available to pre-order on CD and LP from the Peaceville webstore at this location. Pre-orders also come with a bonus free three track EP “Annoluce,” plus two exclusive tracks.

Novembre’s seventh album “URSA” was recorded at Blue Noise Studio and PlayRec studio by Massimiliano Pagliuso, then mixed and mastered at Unisound Studios by Dan Swanö (Opeth, Katatonia, Bloodbath). Cover art comes courtesy of Travis Smith.

After a period of inactivity since 2007’s The Blue, which involved the departure of longstanding member Giuseppe Orlando, Novembre returns with a new set of potent and poignant tracks, effortlessly transitioning between soothing, epic, melancholy and intense, from what is one of the originators of the whole atmospheric death/doom scene. Headed by founding member and writer Carmelo Orlando, and with a reinvigorated musical alliance with Massimiliano Pagliuso, the line-up is completed by Fabio Fraschini (previously bassist on the Materia album) and David Folchitto on drums. There is also a special guest appearance from Anders Nyström of the Swedish doom master Katatonia, adding his own unique ‘cold’ touch to the album’s single track “Annoluce.”

Added Carmelo Orlando: “This album is a very important step in my life.

The track listing for “URSA” is:

1. Australis
2. The Rose
3. Umana
4. Easter
