Reissue Of First Two Albums On The Way From Caligula’s Horse

Caligula’s Horse, one of Australia’s most exciting and innovative progressive bands, is set to return to Europe in June 2017 for a string of live dates including support slots with Opeth, Anathema & Pain of Salvation, UK headline shows and festival appearances at Midsummer Prog Festival (Valkenburg, Netherlands) and the Be Prog! My Friend Festival (Barcelona, Spain). To coincide with that, InsideOutMusic will reissue the band’s first two albums “Moments From Ephemeral City” and “The Tide, the Thief & River’s End” on June 16th in both CD and digital download formats.

“Moments From Ephemeral City” was released in 2011, and is the band’s debut album. Originally intended as a solo album by Sam Vallen, it quickly became the start of the story for Caligula’s Horse once vocalist Jim Grey became involved. Recorded entirely by the duo, it presents a vision that is colourful, eclectic and vivid.

“The Tide, the Thief & River’s End” followed in 2013, and was a concept album that explored themes of oppression, exodus, and the inexorable survival of the human spirit. The album saw them perform with the likes of Protest The Hero, Mastodon & Opeth, as well as garnering the attention of current label InsideOutMusic.

Vocalist Jim Grey comments: “We’re thrilled that our first two albums will be far easier to get a hold of around the world now through Inside Out Music. ‘Moments’ and ‘River’s End’ are an integral part of the Caligula’s Horse journey – we learned a lot creating them and though it’s been some years since their release, we’re as proud of them as ever.

“We’re looking forward to sharing fan favorites from our whole back catalogue with our friends in Europe in June!”

Ensiferum Checks In From The Recording Studio

Ensiferum recently entered the Astia studio in Lappeenranta, Finland to begin work on a seventh full-length, which will be produced once again by Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene, Entwine).

Set to be released September 2017 via Metal Blade Records, the quintet has now issued an update about the recording process from in the studio. Sami Hinkka (bass) comments:

“Hi, folks! Greetings from the Astia studio! For this album, we wanted to catch our live energy on a totally new level with the best possible sound. So every song was played together while recording drums. Most of the bass lines were also taken from those live takes to guarantee the maximum groove. There are songs on the album we recorded without a click so get ready for some serious rocking, people!

“Since Anssi Kippo is such a studio wizard, he has synced his legendary Otari MTR-90mk2 2” 24 -tape recording machine (recognizable, for example, from Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ video) with his computer, so we will record drums, bass, rhythm guitars and lead vocals on tape, and the rest that can’t fit on the tape, we’ll record on computer. Also the mixing will be done the analogue way on tape to make sure that the sound will remain as raw, punchy and as unprocessed as possible.

“The second week is almost over and we are perfectly on schedule: drums, bass lines and half of the rhythm guitars are done. We are doing ~ 12 hour long days, so unfortunately this time there won’t be ‘beer of the week’ or any fooling around video diaries, but there will be plenty of time for that after the album is done and the touring starts again. 😉 Stay tuned for more news! Cheers!”

Before the album’s release, European fans will be able to catch Ensiferum at various festivals this summer. See below for all dates, with more shows to be announced soon:

Apr. 7 – Metal Franconia Festival – Dettelbach, Germany

Hells Headbangers Inks Deal With Krossfyre, New Song Available For Streaming

Hells Headbangers announces the signing of Spain’s Krossfyre. The first fruit of this union shall be the band’s six-song debut EP, “Burning Torches.” Check out the new song “Fire Solution,” which also reveals the cover art, in the player below. The release date for the EP will be announced soon.

Krossfyre formed only last year, but set to work on writing and recording “Burning Torches,” completing the six-song/20-minute EP last September at Moontower Studios. Although an otherwise brand-new name, Krossfyre include among their ranks members who do or have done time in such bands as Sheidim, Spain’s Graveyard, Körgull the Exterminator, Insulters, Morbid Flesh, and Suspiral.

References to be made include classic Nifelheim and Vomitor, but also early Tribulation, later Desaster, Gospel of the Horns, Bestial Mockery, and Nocturnal Graves among others. But the sheer charisma and cantankerous esprit Krossfyre exude – not to mention infectious, gloriously METAL songwriting – puts the band squarely amongst those hallowed ranks. Early days still, to be sure, but on evidence of the forthcoming “Burning Torches,” the name Krossfyre will soon be upon the tongues of diehards worldwide soon enough.

A statement from the band reads: “Playing blackened heavy/thrash evil music, Hells Headbangers was our very first choice for obvious reasons. It is the home of Hobbs’ Angel of Death, Vomitor, and Blood Feast just to name a few of an endless list. No other label can presume to have such a strong, high profile and respected roster, especially these days where labels need to adapt to new trends or disappear. We put all our energy and effort into Burning Torches, and we’re sure that Hells Headbangers will know how to push it the way it deserves!”
