Periphery Reveals New Album “Periphery IV: Hail Stan” Details; Posts New Music Video “Blood Eagle” Online

Periphery will release their fifth album, “Periphery IV: Hail Stan,” on April 5th via their own 3DOT Recordings. A music video for the album’s first single, “Blood Eagle,” directed by Jeremy Danger & Travis Shinn, can be found below.

Guitar player Mark Holcomb said of the six-minute track: “We’ve known since the late stages of P4 writing sessions that ‘Blood Eagle’ would be the first song we released. It’s an unrelenting song that, even while we were writing it, we could say to ourselves: ‘We NEED to play this live.’ The original demo was vastly different, and through the songwriting process, it took on this kind of violent, explosive nature that is always hard to synthesize. That energy excited us and we knew it’d be the first thing we’d let you all hear.”

“Periphery IV: Hail Stan” marks two significant firsts for the band: the first Periphery release on their recently formed label, 3DOT Recordings, as well as a change in the way they approached writing and recording. “We finally spent a year on a record,” explains guitar player/programmer Jake Bowen. “We’ve never been able to do that. The quality and pacing of the work show we took our time with this one. That’s an important note about this. We really got to do everything we wanted to do in the space we had to do it.” Mark adds, “I think you can hear the adventurous intent behind much of this material as a result. We’re all the happiest we’ve ever been with a release, and it’s no coincidence. Can’t wait for you all to hear it.”

“Periphery IV: Hail Stan” is the first release to follow the band’s 2017 Grammy Award nomination in the “Best Metal Performance” category, for “Periphery III: Select Difficulty” album opener “The Price Is Wrong”. The 2016 album tallied 35 million cumulative streams and marked their third consecutive debut in the Top 25 of the Billboard Top 200. It represented the apex of a tireless decade-long grind. In between the touring, endorsements and appearances, they also launched a summer camp of their own, Periphery Summer Jam.

2. Blood Eagle
3. CHVRCH BVRNER

Týr launches video for new single, “Sunset Shore”

– February 6th, 2019 –

On March 8th, the Faroe Islands’ Týr will release their eighth full-length, Hel, via Metal Blade Records. Hel is a collection of ruthlessly melodic and irresistibly compelling progressive folk metal that will immediately resonate with any who have followed the band at any point over the two decades of their storied career. For a preview of the album, a video for the new single, “Sunset Shore” (directed by mihasznafilm.com), can be viewed at: metalblade.com/tyr

Týr vocalist / guitarist Heri Joensen comments: “In early January, immediately after spending our holidays in the Faroes, Gunnar and I traveled to Hungary to our bandmates, Tadeusz and Attila, in Budapest. Finally it was time to shoot another video, our first since 2014, and we’re very happy to present this one to you!

The Hungarian film production crew, Mihaszna Film, arranged the trips, starting from Budapest and going first to the Julian alps in Slovenia. In the fields and rivers of the snowy mountains we had some amazing scenery for ‘overworld’ part of the video. A few days later we traveled on to the caves of Szent-István in northern Hungary, and deep underground we found some dark and gloomy caves to be the perfect backdrop for the underworld part of this video.

Terji wrote ‘Sunset Shore’, for our upcoming album, ‘Hel’ – to be relased on March 8th, and he plays the solo on the album version, but not in this video. We decided it was the perfect opportunity to introduce you all to the amazing talent of Attila Vörös, who recorded his own version of the solo a few days before the video shooting. The lyrics, written by me, are about how the mind can sometimes be a windswept and weatherworn landscape, and how the only thing to do, in spite of hopelessness and despair, is to aim for a better place and to work towards better times.

We hope you enjoy the result!

The previous single, “Fire and Flame”, can also be heard at: metalblade.com/tyr – where Hel can be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–digipak-CD
–box set (digipak CD, drinking horn, leather belt clip, poster, autographed photo card – limited to 1000 copies)
–steel-blue / gray marbled vinyl (US retail exclusive – limited to 500 copies)
–clear mushroom brown marbled vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–blue / white / black / red splatter vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 100 copies)
–180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
–turquoise blue marbled vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 500 copies)
–clear / blue marbled vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 300 copies)
–bordeaux red /black marbled vinyl (EMP exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–olive marbled vinyl (Nuclear Blast exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–white / blue marbled vinyl (Tutl exclusive – limited to 100 copies)

Known for their prolific nature – dropping their first five full-lengths in the space of just seven years – the six-year gap between Valkyrja (2013) and Hel is by far the longest between any two of their records. During that period the band toured hard, taking the album around the world, including a support run with Children Of Bodom in North America and an appearance on the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise. However, other factors played into this extended break between releases. “We approached this one differently because I learned that if I continue doing albums in the way we had up to now, I would die from a heart attack before I’m 50!” says guitarist/vocalist Heri Joensen. “That’s one of the reasons we changed our method and took such a long time on this one.” That this tactic has been beneficial is borne out in the finished product, which is perhaps more immersive than those that came before. “Musically it leans a bit towards our album, ‘Ragnarok‘ (2005),” states Thomsen. “It’s a bit more epic and also much better worked through than any of our previous albums.” It also marks the recording debut of drummer Tadeusz Rieckmann, who has manned the drum throne for Týr‘s live shows since 2016.

1. Gates of Hel
2. All Heroes Fall
3. Ragnars Kvæði
4. Garmr

Armed For Apocalypse Premiere New Track “Forced To An End”

Armed For Apocalypse have scheduled a September 28th release date for their upcoming EP, “Palm Reader“. That four song effort will be a digital release with a new full-length planned to follow in early 2019. A new track from it entitled “Forced To An End” can be streamed below.

Comments vocalist Nate Burman:

“I think we all fall victim to being stuck at a day job that we hate at a certain point in our lives. I remember pacing around work one day feeling trapped somewhere that I didn’t want to be, making someone else’s dreams come true rather than my own. Sure, it’s scary to be financially unstable in order to pursue what you love to do, but it’s absolutely crippling to think about being stuck at a place you’re miserable at just for a paycheck.”

In other news, the group will be back out on the road later this month for a run of shows with The Lion’s Daughter on select dates. Those stops include:

09/24 Bend, OR – 3rd St. Pub
09/26 Spokane, WA – The Observatory

Incite Premiere New Single “Ruthless Ways”

Incite have an as-yet unannounced January release planned for their new effort “Built To Destroy” through Minus Head Records. The group recorded the outing with producer Steve Evetts (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die) and have debuted a song from it called “Ruthless Ways” in advance streaming below.

Says Incite vocalist Richie Cavalera of the single:

“Our new song ‘Ruthless Ways‘ is about being a piece of sh*t and it finally catching up with you. It’s the exact vibe we wanted to explode out the gate with. The song is brutal, catchy, and hella groovy. It’s a good feel for what to expect on this new album. Huge riffs, massive drums, bass for days, and a new vocal feel that to me is pure evil and nasty. We kept it real heavy – get your headbang on.”

The band are currently out tour the U.S. with Lody Kong:

09/14 San Diego, CA – Space Bar
09/16 Oakland, CA – Elbo Room Jack London

Mother Feather announces new album, ‘Constellation Baby’

– September 6th, 2018 –

Stream scorching first single “Red Hot Metal” now

New York City’s Mother Feather have perfected the formula to pay homage to the roots of punk’n’roll and heavy rock injected with their own brand of the divine feminine, and since their debut album have been keeping the audience on their toes. The evolution of their high-energy “pop cock rock” surges forward this November with their sophomore album Constellation Baby, out via Metal Blade Records / Blacklight Media.

The first taste of the new Mother Feather comes in the form of lead single “Red Hot Metal”, now available to stream and download. Just like you’d expect from the name, the track embodies the smoldering nature of the NYC five-piece, radiating controlled adrenaline, highlighted by the production of Grammy-nominated Joshua Valleau. Explains lead singer Ann Courtney, “‘Red Hot Metal is a deathmatch wrestling event of the anxious mind. It’s a fever dream of some of the darkest hours writing the new songs for the album, as I fought to keep my grip on my sanity and the wheel of an old – but fast – red car.”

“Red Hot Metal” indeed gives the listener a vibrant mental image – and Brooklyn Bazaar will witness their glittery, smoky stage presence later this month. Mother Feather will be opening up for metalhead disco-rockers Tragedy this September 29 – for more info, please visit: facebook.com/events/260967624482743/

Mother Feather‘s Constellation Baby will be available November 2 via Metal Blade / Blacklight Media, and is available for pre-order now at: metalblade.com/motherfeather – where you can also stream “Red Hot Metal”.

More on Mother Feather:
New York City. The lights go down, Mother Feather stride onto the stage. The bass frequency clarion call that kicks off their opening song charges its way through the packed room, a ripple of electricity riding off its back. Vocalist Ann Courtney steps to the microphone and purrs the first line: “I need your full attention…” And she’s got it. What follows, every single time the quintet stand before an audience, is pure rock and roll catharsis, for Courtney, for her band mates, and for every individual crammed into the room.

Mother Feather made their introduction with two independently released EPs, which were then released as their 2016 self-titled debut full-length on Metal Blade. Now, the band makes their Metal Blade return with their sophomore album Constellation Baby, an extension on the band’s self-styled pop cock rock, with catharsis bleeding through the speakers in the form of gritty, garage-y glamour. Their songs marry the scratchy yet catchy, swaggering and dangerous sounds of The Stooges, New York Dolls or The MC5 with the playfulness, pop sensibilities and exuberance of the finest 90s alt-rock, a little upbeat 50s rock n’ roll thrown in for good measure. Combined with Courtney’s overtly optimistic, inspiring lyrics, the band deliver an energizing and irresistible concoction that captures the attitude and beating heart of New York City on its best day, empowering everyone in their path.

Of course, the band is far bigger than Courtney alone, having surrounded herself with her best friends, who happen to be extremely talented musicians. Every member plays an intrinsic part when bringing the songs to life, both on record and when unleashed on stage. She affectionately refers to guitarist Chris Foley, bassist Matt Basile and drummer Gunnar Olsen as “three beasts”, all of them bringing so much attitude, energy and personality to the songs. Then there’s keyboardist/vocalist Elizabeth Carena, only ever “Lizzie” to Ann, whose interplay with Courtney is one of the most electrifying facets of their performances. “She’s my best friend, my hype woman, and we support and play off each other. I think it’s such an exciting, empowering thing to see two women on stage supporting each other and totally committed to pop cock rock. It’s an overtly feminist statement. I get excited when I see women with their eyes lit up in the crowd.”

Still, as thrilling as the album is, when it comes to Mother Feather all roads lead back to their incomparable live show. While some may look at the costumes, the makeup and the choreography and see the band as heirs to the crown of the likes of David Bowie and the mystique-chasing glam rock stars of the 70s, the last thing the band want is separation between artist and audience, the connection between them integral. “When I’m on stage it’s not a persona. Mother Feather is not a character. Mother Feather is the real me. Who I am off that stage is more of a persona,” she states plainly. “To make that connection with people you must commit, wholly, and that means being present in every breath and dance move. That’s where the space is, to be wild and crazy and nasty and vulnerable, the space to be terrifying. I want to see everything in a rock show. I want the horror, I want the beauty, I want the fun, I want it to be garish. I want it to be wild, I want it to be loud, I want the drama, I want the camp, I want it to be stripped bare. I want to have the whole world for dinner. So that’s what we try to do, every single time.”

3. ICU

Monte Pittman releases two new albums, ‘Better or Worse’ and ‘Between the Space’, today via Metal Blade Records

– August 31st, 2018 –

Set to kick off USA tour with Sebastian Bach next month

There are great guitarists, great vocalists and great songwriters, but Monte Pittman is one of the elite few who can truly lay claim to all three titles – and today, he once again raises the stakes with two new solo albums: Better Or Worse and Between The Space. Monte comments:

“The album ‘Between The Space‘ is a heavy album that gets straight to the point as soon as it starts. The theme is about connection, alignment, and what divides those things. As always when I write, my goal is coming up with the material that fits in my live show. I did everything on these albums. I wrote it all, I played every instrument, I recorded it, and I mixed it. The only thing I didn’t do was the artwork (by Aaron Lea) and mastering (by Alan Douches). It was a challenge having so many tasks. It was a luxury being able to take the time and get everything just how I wanted it. It was a learning experience, and it was a lot of fun making it.

The album ‘Better Or Worse‘ is an acoustic album but it feels like a heavy album. The theme is about being attached to something or being unattached. It could be an idea or a thought process. The softest part of the album has the heaviest lyrics. It builds instrumentally as the album progresses. I wanted the tone of each track to be a little different from each other. ‘Better Or Worse‘ and ‘Between The Space‘ both mirror each other and they are polar opposites. The idea is to have something there for the people who like my heavy music, something for the people who like my acoustic music, and something for the people who like the variety of both.”

For a preview of both albums, please visit: metalblade.com/montepittman – where the singles “Depth Perception” (from Better Or Worse) and “Evidence” (from Between The Space) can be streamed, and the records can be purchased on CD.

“‘Evidence’ is the opening track off ‘Between The Space,’” Monte adds. “This is a great introduction to the album. It has a little bit of everything I’ve done up until now and taken it a few steps further. ‘Depth Perception’ is also the opening track off ‘Better Or Worse‘. I wanted this album, and especially this song in particular, to be acoustic but feel like a heavy album.”

Between The Space track-listing
1. Evidence
2. Ominous / Hope
3. Changing of the Guard
4. Between the Space
5. Once Upon a Time
