Soulfly Posts Title Track From New Album, “Ritual” Online

Phoenix, Arizona based metal veterans Soulfly has posted a 360° video online for the title track of their forthcoming new album, “Ritual.” You can check it out below. The album will be released on October 19 through Nuclear Blast Records.

Comments vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera: “This song took a long time and almost didn’t make the record. We recorded it as an instrumental and ran out of time in the studio. We ended up having to fly Josh Wilbur (producer) out to my house to finish the vocals. He kept on telling me he wanted more of that ‘tribal shit’ like some of the stuff on our first record and ‘Primitive’. We ended up creating the chorus on the spot and layering something like 12 or 16 tracks of chanting for it. After we heard it and were listening back, we got really excited and were high-fiving each other. Josh just turned to me and said that was what he wanted to hear as a fan, and he was really happy to get that out of me. We both knew it was a new Soulfly classic for the ages and had to be the album opener. I’m really proud of this song and I think old-school fans of my work are going to love it.”

Soulfly plays Nailbomb’s “Point Blank” at Tampa Show on 11/01/2017

Those who follow closely the career of Brazilian Metal icon, Max Cavalera, know that Nailbomb’s “Point Blank” (his album collaboration with Fudge Tunnel’s Alex Newport) probably is one of the most in-your-face recordings the legendary musician has ever produced. That’s why Soulfly’s current American tour is so historically-poignant. The Cavalera’s fronted band is playing the aforementioned 1994 classic album in its entirety. Of course, this is a reason to rejoice.

Soulfly—along with fellow openers Lody Kong and Harm’s Way—visited one of Tampa Bay’s premier music venues, The Orpheum, on November 1. They played “Point Blank” from start to finish, castigating the audience with classic Nailbomb fare like the rabid “Wasting Away,” “24 Hour Bullshit”, “Vai Toma No Cú” and “Cockroaches,” among many others.

Even if the crowd was modest in numbers—let’s remember that it happened on a week day, just after Halloween—the response of those present was tremendously energetic. Cavalera commanded the show with his down-to-earth-yet-larger-than-life stage persona. Song after song, he and his band kept everyone on edge, chanting, moshing, singing along and living the mayhem. No doubt, this Brazilian icon and his comrades still are at the top of their musical powers.

During that night at the Orpheum, Soulfly managed to perfectly channel “Point Blank’s” sonic panache. They delivered the most punishing Metal performances witnessed by a Tampa Bay audience this year. If Soulfly visits your town during the remaining dates of this tour, make sure to go and see it. You will be blown away—Nailbomb style.

Soulfly Premieres 360° Live Video For “Archangel”

Soulfly premieres its 360° live video for “Archangel”, which was shot by director Robert Sexton (The Devil Wears Prada, Death Angel).

Comments Sexton: “Not to overplay it, but the 360° aspect of this clip, and the fact that it’s Soulfly, is pretty epic. Sure, it’s only one set up, but it’s the whole room and the viewer is standing in the middle of the pit! No one in metal has really exploited this new tech as of yet. Definitely a cool perspective.”

Check out now “Archangel” below.

Soulfly has released a lyric video for the track “Sodomites” (featuring Todd Jones of Nails) taken off upcoming album “Archangel.”

“I wrote this track about the wrath God which struck down Sodom for their sinful behavior,” commented Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera. “I used quotes from the Old Testament in some of the lyrics. It was also really exciting to work with Todd from Nails on this track since I’m a big fan!”

New Soulfly album “Archangel” will be released on August 14 (worldwide) via Nuclear Blast Entertainment.
