Nine More Bands Added to Brutal Assault to Include Nordjevel

Brutal Assault had this to say about the additions:

Blasting out of Byron Bay, almost as an affront to the serenity of their surrounds, PARKWAY DRIVE quickly established themselves as the most formidable force Australian heavy music had ever seen. A five- piece of astonishing power and understated charisma, PARKWAY DRIVE created unseen hysteria and are coming back to claim their festival-anthem crown.

How do you move from a band as pivotal as The Dillinger Escape Plan? For Liam Wilson, it meant ripping up the rulebook all over again. AZUSA make captivating music with unconventional nerve. Uniting the complementary skills of its members, their sound is a thrash-fusion tour de force. Defying expectations by embracing contradiction, AZUSA finds strength in vulnerability, harmony in dissonance and melody in discord.

The only pure metal attack in this update is a bunch of seasoned veterans with a long list of seminal acts in their CVs, coming to dominate BA with their relentless black metal project NORDJEVEL. Get ready for blast-fire annihilation propelled by one of the most insane drummers in the metal scene.

Norwegian-American electro metal project COMBICHRIST mark the return of ultimate genre merger with their infernal, yet extremely addictive sonic lunacy. Known by many as the Rammstein support that overshadowed Rammstein, COMBICHRIST led by Andy LaPlegua moves huge masses with its strange industrial metal sound that is uniquely even in the ‚aggrotech‘ scene.

Remaining within the ranks of metal-and-techno-fusion bands here comes VIOLENT MAGIC ORCHESTRA, an art project of complete harmony of techno, black metal, industrial, noise and emit light. Imagine black metal meets Kraftwerk.

Resonating with all the senses, CASPIAN are for fifteen years a solid and unshakable name in the post-rock scene and one of the best live acts from the genre. You can look forward for a show, which will bring welcomed relax during restless times on Brutal Assault.

Thunder rolls afar, unremitting rain, awaited gloomy deliverance gets under your skin. Sudden storm of unleashed instruments then quietness, absolute serenity. At the gates of hell or heaven depending on the listener’s philosophy. Cleverly mixing some kind of modern & ambient Black-Metal with Post-Hardcore tones, DÉLUGE does what has to be done whether you want it or not.

Music is mainly about fun and the Nordic mage Leo Moracchiolo is gonna bring fun factor to BA with his studio-project-transformed-into-band known on Youtube as FROG LEAP.

Final band to this update comes from the fertile grounds of Copenhagen’s underground; HEXIS combine black metal with hardcore and post-metal elements for almost ten years now.

Epic melodic death metallers Nothgard sign to Metal Blade Records

– April 10th, 2018 –

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the addition of epic melodic death metallers Nothgard from Germany to its roster! The Bavarian quartet has signed a multiple album deal with Metal Blade and is right now in the middle of recording their tentative new album, to be released during the second half of 2018!

Comments Nothgard singer/guitarist Dom R. Crey: “We are really happy to announce the signing with the renowned label Metal Blade Records. For years we have had an eye on the countless and fantastic releases Metal Blade has launched. Eventually we can call ourselves part of this family, something that makes us really proud. We are looking forward to a great collaboration and cannot wait to usher into a new era of Nothgard.”

Dom is also presenting us an outlook on the upcoming new Nothgard album: “This exciting chapter will be initiated by a new studio album! In the history of the band we have never worked harder on an album. And to be honest we never had a clearer view on our approach of composing and on our sound. We listened to both, our fans and ourselves. We have clearly analyzed our strength and how to transfer this awareness to our material. Right now tons of work are still laying ahead of us and in the end our fans will judge the result. But let me tell you: As a band we are more than happy about the outcome so far and can’t wait to present it to the rest of the World!”

Founded in 2008 by singer and lead guitarist Dom R. Crey, Nothgard dragged along the winning ways since their debut album, Warhorns Of Midgard, from 2011. The high technical quality of their guitar work and the epic orchestration of their melodic death metal is exciting to fans and critics alike. In 2014, the band released another epic milestone of deadly metal, memorable melodies and influences from both neo-classical and folk music called Age Of Pandora. After the release, Nothgard finally signed to Noise Art Records who released the band’s latest album, The Sinner’s Sake, their most serious approach yet to enter the melodic death metal throne. On The Sinner’s Sake, deadly riffs meet playful, catchy lead guitars, while the epic orchestration arranges for a cinematic atmosphere that will bring goosebumps to your skin! Completed by Dom R. Crey’s raw vocals, Nothgard‘s sound is both stormy-spectacular and full of a sublime atmosphere. With The Sinner’s Sake, Nothgard set off into the most spectacular chapter in the band’s history so far. And the best is yet to come!

Nothgard line-up:
Dom R. Crey – Vocals, Lead Guitar, Studio Keyboards
Skaahl – Guitars

BATUSHKA: Polish black metal legion joins the Metal Blade Records roster

– October 18th, 2017 –

‘Litourgiya’ re-issue to see release November 3rd

Polish black metal legion BATUSHKA are the latest additions to the Metal Blade Records’ US roster.

Pronounced “Batjushka,” the band’s Cyrillic name Батюшка means “father” and is used to address an Eastern Orthodox priest. Despite their themes and imagery, they are not a Christian band. The identities of the members are unknown, but they are involved with other bands. Their live lineup contains eight members.

Metal Blade will re-issue BATUSHKA‘s Litourgiya full-length, initially released in 2015 in limited quantity via Witching Hour Productions, on November 3rd. Despite its relative cult status, the record earned critical accolades from journalists “in the know.” In a 4.5/5 rating, Sputnik Music championed the record noting, “Crushing intensity is a term bandied about with gleeful abandon nowadays, but it’s more than applicable when used to describe BATUSHKA‘s brand of Slavonic-influenced black metal. The mysterious nature of the band’s members only finishes off the creation of a truly intriguing entity, but in all honesty ‘Litourgiya‘ has done most of the hard work for them; a violent, devout, moving and sibylline affair, and one that will hopefully in time be revered as such.” No Clean Singing concurred, “The music is dark, heaving, and very heavy – with bombastic outbreaks of wildfire and thunder – and the bleak, majestic melodies are effective at getting under the skin. But what sets the music apart and makes the album especially memorable are the vocals. In addition to the incinerating shrieks that you might expect in a black metal album, you’ll hear reverberating liturgical chants in what I’m told is Church Slavonic – the language used in the Orthodox Church in such places as Poland, Russia, and Ukraine, as well as nations in the Balkan Peninsula.” Nine Circles concurred, “to say BATUSHKA is a band that is able to create layers is an understatement…’Litourgiya‘ is a combination of ancient rites and modern blasts; a work of shocking magnitude that has gone almost unnoticed by the metal community at large,” while Metal Bandcamp hailed, “an excellent piece of work, filled with incredible instrumentality that elevates black metal to new heights.”

Physical pre-orders for Litourgiya are currently available at

Litourgiya track-listing:
1. Yekteniya I: Ochishcheniye
2. Yekteniya II: Blagosloveniye
3. Yekteniya III: Premudrost’
4. Yekteniya IV: Milost’
5. Yekteniya V: Svyatyy Vkhod
6. Yekteniya VI: Upovanie
7. Yekteniya VII: Istina
8. Yekteniya VIII: Spasenie

Embrace the essence of musical ecstasy, fascination, passion and the urge to create… the substitute of modernity and classical perfection, a road to freedom… It’s a distinct world of sounds lavishing us with all their divine glory, sounds of liberation, sounds of spiritual spheres, sounds of harmony…

New Album “Ending Life Slowly” Revealed By Autumns Eyes

At the crossroad between a hallowed holiday and the cusp of a dead cold winter is where you’ll find Autumns Eyes mastermind Daniel Mitchell. After many seasons of seclusion and intermittently hitting the studio, the recording process has finally wrapped up for the new album titled “Ending Life Slowly.”

Mitchell is no stranger to the darker side of creativity, and crafts music free of constraints or label interference. “Ending Life Slowly” strikes a balance between somber reflections on mortality and full-force screaming metal, with cover art to reflect the album’s dreary nature crafted by Indonesian artist Sorrow Grips (Gojira).

Due out on October 31st, “Ending Life Slowly” serves as the first full-length album from Autumns Eyes since the 2012 release of “Please Deceive Me.” Halloween and the death of Fall is a perfect time to be reminded that sometimes life ends far too slowly.

Mitchell had this to say about the impending album release: “Living in New England has always made it easy to draw from the month of October for creative inspiration, with life breathing its flaming colors into all the surrounding trees. Unfortunately, these themes can only be revisited every so often before it becomes repetitive. That’s why I reached into the month of November for inspiration. A time when Fall is still thriving, but where color has faded and the trees are bare as skeletons.

“While a walk through the woods here in October can be a relaxing activity, doing the same in November carries an overwhelming sense of dread. You’re surrounded by death, and the trees no longer sway and breathe with the air. They’re cold, stiff, bare, and knock together like bones breaking in the sky.

“This atmosphere is what fueled the writing process for ‘Ending Life Slowly,’ with death and decay surrounding every element of each track. It’s a cliche topic to write about in heavy metal music, but my approach here was focused more on the immense weight death can hold over one’s shoulders. To sit an truly contemplate what it means for all things to come to an end was a sobering experience to say the least.

“I always look at music as sonic therapy, but this was the one time where music couldn’t offer any kind of solace. It just reminded me that life can either go by too fast, or it can end too slowly.”

Check out the album’s artwork and track listing below, along with a video update from the studio released earlier this summer:

1. Death of October
2. Break the Skin
3. Your Last Day
4. Moments Into Memories
5. The Honest Liars
6. Couldn’t Hold On
7. Far Away From Fading
8. Internal Arson
9. Open Your Eyes, Not Your Wrists
10. Under the Skin of the Sun

Exarsis Comments On “New War Order” Cover Art

Exarsis recently unveiled the cover artwork for a new album (check it out below), which led to a slew of negative comments from fans about stereotyping and antisemitism. The band has now issued this response to the situation:

“Since we received some negativity by a number of people concerning the front cover of our upcoming record ‘New War Order,’ we have to set the record straight here. First of all, here comes an explanation of what the controversial part of the artwork depicts.

“What we see is a rabbi, a priest that preaches the Jewish religion. He holds a Talmud, the central text of Rabbinic Judaism, which drips blood. This record talks about religion and holy wars (hence the blood). How organized religion has led to the demise of zillions of human beings since the dawn of time and continues to this day. Deaths in the name of dieties and political power.

“Our biggest influence on that are the conflicts on Palestinian soil. Hence the Jewish figure, hence the intro track called “Zionism (The Reaping)” – it’s NOT against the people of Israel, but IT IS against any type of religion and religious manipulation. And we definitely NOT support ziomism. Other parts of the cover have to do with our lyrical content concerning political empowerment and control, the New War Order, death and aliens. Yes, aliens.

“We had no idea about the ‘Der Stürmer’ caricatures – as some people said – while creating this artwork in conjunction with Andrei, and that coincidence disappoints us. That’s definitely not the point of our artwork. There’s a simple explanation on the face of the figure: that’s our mascot. 3 albums before he has appeared as a general, a politician or a mad surgeon. He could be an Islamic or a Christian priest as well, and we might do it in the future. For us, all organised religions are the same.

“We are in NO FUCKIN’ WAY antisemitic and we definitely do NOT hate any nation and its people. We do not judge people by the colour of their skin ?r the place of their origin. We have friends from Israel and they know our intentions. We are all brothers. We totally support unity between every human being and we hate politicians, war, ?organised religion, fascists and the New World Order. That’s what our lyrics are about and whoever knows our band is aware of that.

“?xarsis is openly 101% ideologically AGAINST any form of fascism and we are not interested at all in any neo-nazi fans supporting our band. On the said album, there’s an anti-nazi song called ‘Just Buried’which is about the nazi parties’ empowerment through mass media – unfortunately not just a Greek phenomenon. Nazi metalheads FUCK OFF.

“We will not respond to any ‘your artwork is nazi-friendly’ accusations furthermore. Our above statement is clear. Our message is unity and awakening. Powers that be WILL NEVER WIN. FUCK ALL FASCISTS. FUCK ALL POLITICIANS. FUCK ANY FORM OF RELIGION.”

New Album “Domino” Announced By Sinheresy

Italian symphonic melodic metal act Sinheresy will return with the sophomore full length album “Domino.” The album is expected to drop on April 7th via Scarlet Records and is the follow up to the debut full length “Paint the World” (2013).

Formed in 2009, Sinheresy soon developed a unique blend of metal by adding a wider range of influences going from the symphonic sound of Nightwish and Within Temptation to the progressive approach of Symphony X and Children Of Bodom. The first works “The Spiders And The Butterfly” EP (2011) and “Paint the World” (2013) attracted very positive reactions from fans and critics alike, allowing them to tour all over Europe with renowned acts such as Lordi and Tarja.

The band now ready to come back with their brand new album “Domino.” Superbly mixed to bring out warmth and depth, their new work is a treat for the ears on multiple levels. Not only is the overall sound excellent, but the solid engineering also serves to highlight the strength of Cecilia and Stefano’s vocal performances and displays the raw talents of the band to its fullest.

This is how mastering engineer Mika Jussila of legendary Finnvox Studios commented: “I keep this album as a good example of a modern metal record but don’t want to categorize any more. All tracks are produced and arranged in a very cool way and the sound is modern, punchy and powerful. Listening this you feel happy and energetic at the same time.”

Complex at times and elegantly simple at others, “Domino” is a strong evolutionary step that blends new elements with old, enhancing rather than changing the band’s traditional sound. The track listing for “Domino” is:

1. Domino
2. Star Dome
3. Without A Reason
4. My Only Faith
5. Unspoken Words
6. Under Your Skin
7. The Island Of Salt And Grass
8. Ocean Of Deception
9. Believe
10. …Another Life

Agonia Records Inks Deal With Shibalba

Greek meditative dark trance/ambient/shamanic act Shibalba has signed a record deal with Agonia Records. The band is preparing to release a new studio album titled “Psychostasis – Death Of Khat” in April.

Shibalba’s music is saturated with the mysticism of the East. It’s richly detailed and multidimensional, while layered with chanting and broadly defined elements of traditional ritual and shamanic music. Apart from contemporary synths and guitar drones, the band makes use of bones and skulls as percussion instruments, Tibetan Horns, Tibetan Singing Bowls, bone & horne trumpets, Darbuka’s (goblet drums) as well as ceremonial bells and gongs, to name a few.

The spirits behind the shamanic halls of Shibalba are Acherontas V.Priest, Aldra-Al-Melekh & Karl NE/Nachzehrer. The intent of their esoteric art is to “guide the subconsious of the individual to dream beyond the skin of matter & to dream in ecstasy and exult.”

Shibalba commented: “?he secret society of Shibalba inaugurate the transparent alignment beyond death and the transcendence of the Higher Self. The conscious pneuma transposes the bridge among worlds to unite Now with Forever. Our physical vessel, our Khat, is only the conduit for the attainment of spiritual and intellectual enlightenment. Soul and intelligence does not reside in the estates of the everlasting. Divided we are at the death of Khat, before Psychostasis.”

“Nine Meditative Worlds Experienced and manifested in Sweden and Greece by the Ancient Teachings of Eastern Visions of personal Empirism using Physical Ritual Recordings and Instruments Unlocking the Portals of the Individual to new Dimensions of Experience to Dream Beyond-Above & Below!”.

Emptiness Streams Full New Album “Not For Music”

Belgian experimental death and black metal band Emptiness is now streaming new album, “Not For Music,” online in full via the playlist below.

Regarding this new album, the band comments: “With Emptiness, the debate revolves around the way to categorize it. Yet, not being like others is our essence. In such a vast universe, and confronted to endless sources of inspiration, we should all be our own selves. This title is a kind of provocation, but also a way for us to say that ‘nothingness’ is our music.”

“Not For Music” was recorded at Blackout Studio, produced by Jeordie White (Marilyn Manson), and mixed by Sean Beavan (Nine Inch Nails). The album will be released by Season of Mist worldwide on January 20th and features the following track listing:
