New Zealand Promoters Cancel Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals Anselmo Shows

Promoters in Auckland and Christchurch, New Zealand have announced that they have decided to cancel the scheduled concerts of former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo and his project, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, accusing the singer of racism. Anselmo and his band are scheduled to to travel to Australia this week, which would include a headlining slot at Slayfest in Perth, but the neighbouring country of New Zealand, which was shaken by a horrific terrorist attack on two mosques in Christchurch, which claimed the lives of fifty people, has seemingly closed it’s doors to the band.

The cancellation is partly a reaction to these attacks, where a white supremacist Australian man, who has continued to make racist gestures during his court hearing, was responsible for the killings. Anselmo himself has been the subject of racist accusations, most recently in 2016 where he shouted “White power!” in front of a crowd in Hollywood, California, an action he has since apologised for. Club Tavern, the venue in Christchurch which was supposed to hold the Illegals concert, stated:

The Philip Anselmo gig has been cancel (sic),” a Facebook post said. “We do not and will not support white supremacy or racism!”

The venue declined to comment further.

Auckland venue Galatos also posted on Facebook, informing people of their decision to pull the pin on the gig. A spokeswoman for the venue also declined to comment further.

Vixen Vocalist Janet Gardner Leaves The Band

Vixen vocalist Janet Gardner has announced that she has decided to step down from the band, ending her fifth stint with the group. In a post on Facebook, the singer stated:

“After much soul searching and many sleepless nights, I have decided that it’s time for me to step aside and let Roxy (Petrucci, drummer) and Share (Ross, bassist) pursue their vision for the future of Vixen. Vixen will always have a very special place in my heart and I am incredibly grateful to have been a part of it. I would like to thank everyone for the amazing support over the years, and as Roxy and Share continue to keep the heart and soul of Vixen alive and well and I continue on my path, your continued support to all would be greatly appreciated. Love, Janet.”

Gardner joined Vixen in the eighties and appeared with the band in the movies “Hardbodies” and “The Decline Of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years,” as well as releasing three studio albums with the group, as well as the recent live album, “Live Fire” last year.

My Dying Bride Replaces Drummer; Posts New Album Update

British doom metal veterans My Dying Bride has announced that they have parted company with drummer Shaun Steels. In his place comes former Paradise Lost drummer Jeff Singer. A statement from the band reads as follows:

“My Dying Bride have recently had to part ways with Shaun Steels due to unresolvable drumming issues. Jeff Singer (Kill2This, Paradise Lost and Blaze amongst others) has kindly agreed to step in. Since Jeff’s addition the album has (musically) been completed and pre-production is now going great guns, lyrics and vocals are understandably still in the making but the band can prepare for the studio professionally now having 90% of the music in place and all drums complete.”

A quote from the band simply says “Jeff has been a light in a dark room, he breathlessly and seamlessly plays with the new music and intuitively seems to know what we’re asking for, he has removed a lot of unnecessary pressure from the band in an already testing time. At last something good happens” There are no definite recording dates as yet and still no song titles or album title. But it appears the band is forging forward.

“Merry Christmas indeed!!”

Skull Pit (feat. Mem of Exumer and Tatsu of Church Of Misery) releases new single, “Blood Titan”

– November 6th, 2018 –

On November 16th, Metal Blade Records will finally release Skull Pit, the debut album by American/Japanese collaboration Skull Pit!

Skull Pit is a tale of two musicians from opposite sides of the heavy metal spectrum and the planet: Tatsu, hailing from Tokyo/Japan, is the bassist and mastermind behind the internationally acclaimed doom outfit Church Of Misery; Mem, from New York/USA, is the singer and front-man of German thrash pioneers Exumer!

For a preview of Skull Pit, the new single, “Blood Titan”, can be heard at: youtu.be/654Ru-5KdTU

Skull Pit vocalist Mem comments: “‘Blood Titan’ is a straight up stomper with a very recognizable chorus that could’ve been on Motorhead‘s ‘Bomber’ album or any late 70s/early 80s NWOBHM record for that matter. We were very happy with the guitar tones on this song as they appear to conjure up the spirit of the late Fast Eddie Clarke.”

To hear the previous singles, “Fire Breather” and “Marauders”, please visit: metalblade.com/skullpit – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:
–ltd. Digipak-CD
–180 g black vinyl
–silver/black marbled vinyl (ltd. 200 – EU-exclusive)
–red/black marbled vinyl (ltd. 200 – EU-exclusive)
–gold/black splattered vinyl (ltd. 100 – EU-exclusive)
–gold/silver splattered vinyl (ltd. 100 – US-exclusive)

The two veterans endeavored to combine their favorite elements of bands like Motorhead along with the countless outfits of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal into one blistering and highly energetic nine-track album. The songs on Skull Pit‘s debut are a clear departure from what Exumer or Church Of Misery usually sound like. Stepping away from Exumer‘s lighting fast rhythms and Church of Misery‘s slowed down, Iommi-inspired riffs, Skull Pit creates melodies in the vein of 70s hard rock and 80s NWOBHM with Lemmy’s punk attitude.

Mixed in Tokyo by O-mi Kihara, Skull Pit was recorded in New York and Japan during Exumer‘s and Church of Misery‘s time off from playing live around the globe. The result is a free-flowing album that switches effortlessly between genres and boundaries, but always with the intent to deliver a razor sharp riff or a memorable hook.

Skull Pit didn’t shy away from further expanding their all-inclusive attitude when it came to choosing and recording a cover song as a bonus track: Rose Tattoo‘s “All the Lessons”. The song features Brian “Mitts” Daniels (ex-Madball), who produced Mem’s vocal tracks in New York.

Skull Pit track-listing
1. Double Cross
2. Roller
3. Fire Breather
4. Year Of The Dog
5. Soul Raiders
6. Blood Titan
7. Marauders
8. The Line
9. Wolf Spirit
10. All The Lessons (bonus track)

Bad Wolves Premiere New Music Video For “No Masters” – Recruit Fill-In Singers At Birmingham, UK Show

Bad Wolves premiere a new official music video for their track “No Masters” which was directed by Randy Edwards.

Check it out below:

In other news, the group had to recruit Stars from Bang Bang Romeo and Austin Dickinson of As Lions to fill in for their singer Tommy Vext during ltheir October 04th Birmingham, UK show of their current European/UK tour with Three Days Grace.

Vext was hospitalized this week two days into the tour for a severe bronchial infection. Comments Vext on that matter:

“Life is unpredictable. If anyone knows this, it’s me. More often than not, the universe throws a wrench in the best laid plans.

This is our first trip to play shows in Europe as a band. Nothing could prepare us for the excitement and gratitude we felt for the opportunity to come over and play for the UK and EU fans who have waited so long to see us. So imagine my disappointment when a few days ago I began feeling ill to the point I knew something was wrong enough that I had to seek medical treatment – and to accept the doctors’ advice that I not play the show in Birmingham.

But as the old adage goes, “the show must go on” and luckily I have a lot of people in my life who love and support me and my band. On a moment’s notice, Stars from the Doncaster band Bang Bang Romeo and Austin Dickinson from London based As Lions agreed to learn the set list in under 24 hours, travel to Birmingham and play the show for no money, just because they believe in us and because they know we would do the same for them. I certainly understand this sentiment. I had to fill in as the vocalist for Five Finger Death Punch on several occasions.

It is not easy to sit the Birmingham show out. But this is bigger than just me. It’s about the fans and about our commitment to Three Days Grace. As I lie here, wishing I were feeling better, those thoughts of pity are overshadowed completely by my sense of wonder at the kindness and generosity of the human spirit and the power of music to bring people together. Thank you for all the support – I’ll be back asap, in bigger, better fighting shape. I would personally like to thank the NHS and all the doctors and nurses who assisted me for their amazing service.”

See below for some footage of the band playing with Dickinson on vocals during the aforementioned show. Dickinson himself commented:

“When Tommy called me I thought he was a joking but as it turns he needed a brother to lend a hand. So here we are doing for Tommy what he’s done for many others. He owes me now and I will wait until I get ill in Siberia to ask him to return the favour.”

Remaining dates for the tour are as follows:

10/05 Bristol, UK – St. Philips Gate
10/07 London, UK – O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire
10/08 Glasgow, UK – SWG3
10/09 Manchester, UK – O2 Ritz
10/11 Tilburg, NET – Poppodium 013
10/13 Hamburg, GER – Docks

My Dying Bride Vocalist Explains Public Inactivity, Band Working On New Material

My Dying Bride vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe has checked in with fans explaining why the band hasn’t been performing since cancelling a string of shows last year. Sadly, the singer has been dealing with an awful personal issue, but has positive updates not just for himself and his family, but also has confirmed that My Dying Bride are working on material for a new album. His message reads as follows:

“Many of you have been wondering what has happened to the band since we cancelled all our shows back in late 2017. Well, here is the answer.

“In September 2017 my beautiful little daughter, just five years old, was diagnosed with cancer. This event devastated the whole family as well as close friends and of course all of My Dying Bride and related colleagues. A black hole of worry and panic opened up before me and I was fearful of what was to come. The horror that surrounds this terrible disease is real and brutal and relentless.

“The highly destructive but very necessary poison that is chemotherapy was started and after a time, surgery removed the main tumour but it had spread. Early 2018 a second major operation was needed to finally get rid of the visible mass but cells were still in her body so radiotherapy took place to destroy these. The side-effects of both chemo and radio therapies left her a broken and sorry little thing and my heart was aching like never before. As the father of a deeply sick child, I was on the brink of total implosion.

“After the worst year of our lives, and stress beyond belief, we were gifted the news that so many other people never get; she is clear. She has beaten one of the cruellest of Gods bitter and loveless creations. Despite this positive outcome, there will be years of tests and potential complications which may result in many returns to hospital. I will fear for her every day for the rest of my life and hope that when I finally go to my grave she will be a strong and forthright woman.

“We really need to thank the wonderful people at the NHS Childrens Hospital in Leeds for everything they have done and also the wonderful Candlelighters, childrens cancer charity for their endless and loving support.

“The band took a small hiatus at the devastating news but gradually began to muster forces and start work on the next LP which we can happily tell you all, is well under way and in fact, is almost complete. I have not taken part in any writing as yet but will return to the fold this week, pen in hand and a new focus and eagerness to fulfil my role as wordsmith and vocalist for this remarkable band. We have returned!

“Cheers
Aaron”
