Author & Punisher Announces December Tour Dates

Following crushing performances at this year’s editions of the Southwest Terror Fest in Tucson, Arizona and Housecore Horror Film Fest in Austin, Texas, Tristan Shone will bring his sonic decompositions know as Author & Punisher to the streets again for a final round of live incursions to close out the year.

Set to commence on December 3rd in San Diego, California, Shone will level the stages of ten venues, with the audio punishment coming to a ceremonial conclusion on December 13th in Boise, Idaho.

Shone is in the midst of recording the follow-up to Author & Punisher’s “Women & Children” full-length, released last year via Seventh Rule Recordings. The as-yet-untitled long player, and first for Housecore Records, is being tracked at Nodferatu’s Lair in North Shore, Louisiana with Housecore founder Philip H. Anselmo.

Comments Shone, “There are four reasons to come check out this Author & Punisher tour. First, I will be playing mostly new material fresh from the studio with Philip H. Anselmo. Second, this tour will be painful as all hell, as I drag out a combination of both old and new Drone Machines that I literally have to climb over to get in and out of and will likely ruin me and the underpaid slaves I employ. Third, I will have the double LP of the 2010 Drone Machines album [out on Seventh Rule] on hand with me in the flesh with the machines themselves for the first time. Finally, in what has become a staple of an Author & Punisher show, Cutmod [Will Michaelsen] will be flashing his visual wares in full high count lumens as he has with me for the last two years.”

Wizard Rifle Announces New Album “Here In The Deadlights”

The Los Angeles-by-way-of-Portland stoner, doomed out, mathrock conjurers from Wizard Rifle are very pleased to unveil their brand new full-length in the form of the smoldering five-track “Here In The Deadlights.”

Set for release via Seventh Rule Recordings later this month, the follow-up to 2012’s “Speak Loud Say Nothing” full-length (reviewed here) was tracked by guitarist Max Dameron over three weeks at Breakfast Studio in Los Angeles, then toiled over for a year, with Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Melvins et al) and Jesse Johnstone sharing mixing duties.

The band’s previous album saw Wizard Rifle earn a nomination for best newcomer of 2012 during our annual year-end awards.

The new album “Here In The Deadlights” sees Wizard Rifle for the first time as a trio featuring Dameron alongside, drummer Sam Ford, and bassist David Boe pushing the band’s sound into far sludgier realms and reaching new levels of monolithic heaviness. The track listing is as follows:

1. Crystal Witch
2. Buzzsaw Babes
3. Paul The Sky Tyrant
4. Psychodynamo
5. Beastwhores

Atriarch Reveals New Album “An Unending Pathway”

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Atriarch is a mesmerizing death/doom metal force encompassing haunting atmospheres and droning avalanches of ritualistic sludge.

After two records on Seventh Rule and Profound Lore, Atriarch make the band’s Relapse debut with “An Unending Pathway.” Relapse Records comments:

“Fusing death rock, doom, black metal, punk and psychedelic drone/noise, Atriarch immediately establish themselves as one of the most creative and compelling heavy music bands of the twenty-first century. Imagine Bauhaus as covered by Eyehategod, or Sisters of Mercy filtered through Neurosis, and you begin to get the picture of what Atriarch has achieved.

“Recorded at Type Foundry in Portland, Oregon, produced by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Melvins et al) and the band, engine-eared and mixed by Anderson at Everything Hz, also in Portland, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, An Unending Pathway offers up seven cataclysmic soundscapes to your deepest darkest nightmares.

“Once every few years a band comes along that takes the familiar and creates something wholly new. Atriarch has done just that with An Unending Pathway.”

“Our aim is to tear a hole in the veil that blinds us from our true selves,” relays the band, “We are bombarded with ideals of a superficial shallow lifestyle, that we are enslaved to maintain. This veil has become so powerful and overwhelming that we ignore our spirits to worship our shells, as money stokes the fires that burns our immortal souls. Greed corruption fear and hate is the true face of this Self Serving way of life that we have come to call ‘normal.’ While we believe in opening our minds and expanding our spirits we cannot forget our ability to fight. The spiritual battle for freedom of mind and body can be fought on all levels and violence is in our nature. There is no god there is no devil there is an All Encompassing force that connects all living things. Embrace the ritual and the veil will come crashing down…”

The “An Unending Pathway” album will be released via Relapse Records on October 28th, 2014 and the track listing is as follows:

1. Entropy
2. Collapse
3. Revenant
4. Bereavement
5. Rot
6. Allfather
7. Veil

Graves At Sea / Sourvein Split Release Streaming

Just days preceding its public availability through Seventh Rule Recordings, Metal Hammer is now exclusively streaming the caustic split EP from Graves At Sea and Sourvein.

Side A of this crusher is ruled by two scathing numbers from Portland, Oregon’s Graves At Sea, whose contributions leave an eerie aura complete with tortured vocals, foreboding composition, and a general sense of dread. Recorded by Billy Anderson, (Melvins, Sleep, Neurosis) “Betting On Black” and “Confession” thunder with the all-consuming sludge for which the band is notorious, flooding in amongst the tortured howls and shrieks of vocalist Nathan Misterek.

The resin-coated Cape Fear carnage of Sourvein overthrows the B-Side with three songs produced and recorded by Mike Dean of Corrosion Of Conformity. These odes of heavy — “Driffter,” “Equinox” and “Follow The Light” — combine toxic riffs, grooves and just the right amount of psychedelic appeal.

Both sides were mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering and will be released via Seventh Rule on 160-gram vinyl as well as CD this Tuesday, May 13th.
