Athanasia Posts Debut Album “The Order Of The Silver Compass” Teaser Trailer

Los Angeles-based metal trio Athanasia – featuring former members of Five Finger Death Punch, Sebastian Bach and Murderdolls – will release its upcoming full-length album, “The Order Of The Silver Compass,” on March 15th via Seeing Red Records and Rock Of Angels Records. This one-minute teaser showcases clips of several tracks from the band’s scorching debut and can be seen below.

One might not expect the former members of such bands to be rooted in the fabric of extreme metal, but Athanasia is more than your average power trio. Questioning the moral fabric of man amidst complex narratives tackling power, corruption and greed, the band’s unique amalgamation of melodic metal is enough to satisfy the desires of casual listeners and extreme metal fans alike.

Recorded and produced by Bingham at Nightmare Sound, The Order Of The Silver Compass embodies all things heavy, dark and stylish. The album’s eight tracks were mixed by Chris Collier (Prong, Flotsam And Jetsam, Metal Church) at Mission:Black Studios and mastered by Joe Bozzi (Mastodon, L.A. Guns) at Bernie Grundman Mastering, while Jorden Haley (Dååth, Deicide, Mindless Self Indulgence) handled the cover art and design.

Athanasia was founded in California by guitarist Caleb Bingham under the band’s original name Ascension. As a result of passing the band’s early demos around LA’s Sunset Strip, the young guitarist landed a gig with newly-formed Five Finger Death Punch in 2005. Upon being released from the group in 2007 due to his age, Bingham continued to write under the name Ascension, recording several more unreleased demos (and one EP) at the behest of veteran Roadrunner Records A&R Monte Conner. Largely due to the label’s merger with WMG, negotiations broke down and the band was once again shelved while Bingham played with Swedish death metal act Zonaria from 2010-2014. After parting ways with Zonaria due to a leg injury sustained while playing with the group, Bingham decided to put all his efforts back into what he worked so hard to create…

Joined by bassist Brandon Miller and veteran drummer Jason West (Murderdolls, Wednesday 13, Sebastian Bach), Caleb Bingham resurrected the project under a new moniker, Athanasia, diligently recording its first full-length release over the span of several years.

“I’m very proud to announce that after years of literal blood, sweat, tears and countless hours of hard work, Athanasia’s debut LP The Order Of The Silver Compass is finally about to see the light of day,” says frontman Caleb Bingham. “Blast it in the car and you’ll notice your gas pedal hitting the floor in a matter of seconds! m/”

Monte Pittman will be touring in support of his two new solo albums: Better Or Worse and Between The Space. Monte comments:
“The album ‘Between The Space‘ is a heavy album that gets straight to the point as soon as it starts. The theme is about connection, alignment, and what divides those things. As always when I write, my goal is coming up with the material that fits in my live show. I did everything on these albums. I wrote it all, I played every instrument, I recorded it, and I mixed it. The only thing I didn’t do was the artwork (by Aaron Lea) and mastering (by Alan Douches). It was a challenge having so many tasks. It was a luxury being able to take the time and get everything just how I wanted it. It was a learning experience, and it was a lot of fun making it.

The album ‘Better Or Worse‘ is an acoustic album but it feels like a heavy album. The theme is about being attached to something or being unattached. It could be an idea or a thought process. The softest part of the album has the heaviest lyrics. It builds instrumentally as the album progresses. I wanted the tone of each track to be a little different from each other. ‘Better Or Worse‘ and ‘Between The Space‘ both mirror each other and they are polar opposites. The idea is to have something there for the people who like my heavy music, something for the people who like my acoustic music, and something for the people who like the variety of both.”

There are great guitarists, great vocalists and great songwriters, but Monte Pittman is one of the elite few who can truly lay claim to all three titles – and on August 31st, he once again raises the stakes with two new solo albums: Better Or Worse and Between The Space .

‘Depth Perception’ is also the opening track off ‘Better Or Worse‘. I wanted this album, and especially this song in particular, to be acoustic but feel like a heavy album.”

Blood Divisions releases new EP, ‘Cardinal One’, today

– March 24th, 2017 –

Chris Jericho (Fozzy, WWE) signed copies of ‘Cardinal One’ now available for purchase at metalblade.com/blooddivisions

Today (March 24th), Blood Divisions – a collaborative project of heavy metal musicians with proceeds going to Rock and Rescue – has released their new EP, Cardinal One, via Metal Blade Records. Featuring cover songs of classic tracks as well as original material, Cardinal One CDs (signed by Fozzy/WWE‘s Chris Jericho!) can be purchased at: metalblade.com/blooddivisions – where the album track and cover version of UFO‘s “Hot ‘n’ Ready” can be streamed.

Founded by core members Chris Jericho (Fozzy, WWE), David Austin (Nasty Savage), and Ed Aborn (Intersonic Cyber Symphony), Blood Divisions features a roster of supporting musicians who are current or former members of bands such as Obituary, Death, Nasty Savage, Six Feet Under, Iced Earth, Sebastian Bach, Deicide, Massacre, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and more. The result is a mixture of classics injected with new energy and original music in the mold of Florida’s heavy metal roots.

Blood Divisions is the perfect heavy metal snack mix,” says singer and Executive Producer Chris Jericho (Fozzy, WWE). “It’s a complete blend of balls out thrash, virtuoso technique and 70′s hard rock melodies. It’s an honor to be a part of this project, as I’d be a fan even if I wasn’t in the band! Plus I love machine elves.”

“The project began purely as a creative outlet to have some fun and pay homage to some of the bands that influenced or inspired us,” adds Ed Aborn (Intersonic Cyber Symphony). “Once we began, though, friends from the Florida metal community started to reach out and ask if they could join in. Eventually we decided to make it semi-official and do it all for charity.”

David Austin (Nasty Savage) comments: “Absolute pleasure working with all my friends on here. For them to take their time out of their busy schedule and to do something for free for charity means everything to me. Hopefully I get to do it all over again!!!!”

A detailed look to the newly-released edition of the book “And Justice For Art.”

A limited, Revised Edition of the out-of-print book …And Justice For Art: Stories About Heavy Metal Album Covers was recently released by indie publishers, Dark Canvas.

This one-of-a-kind collection of stories features more than 450 color graphics and recounts all the particulars behind the making of artworks as iconic as Slayer’s “Reign In Blood,” Morbid Angel’s “Blessed Are The Sick,” Metallica’s “…And Justice For All,” Mayhem’s “Grand Declaration of War,” Tiamat’s “Wildhoney,” Black Sabbath’s “13,” and many more!

The stories are told through 105 exclusive interviews with renowned musicians like Jeff Walker (Carcass), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura), Fenriz (Darthrone), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Paul Masvidal (Cynic), Chris Adler (Lamb of God), David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) among many others. The book’s Revised Edition also features new revealing commentaries by Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Kelly Schaefer (Atheist), Neige (Alcest) and by critically acclaimed illustrators such as Michael Whelan, Eliran Kantor, Dan Seagrave, Joe Petagno, Arik Roper and Travis Smith, just to name a few.

When asked why he decided to create a revised edition, author Ramon Oscuro Martos—who writes for Metal Underground—says: “I didn’t want to just re-print the same book again. I had new material available. So, I decided to introduce some changes that definitely bring something new to the table while keeping intact the essence of previous edition. There are new comments, more graphics, but it’s still the same book… dramatically improved and updated.”

The author believes that all the additions “make the book more complete. It’s like what happens with an album or a movie: there’s the original edition. Then you get the especial edition, the limited box set, etc… For me, this is it. This is the best version of the book I can create and it demonstrates that a creative work can evolve through time and become better, eventually… There’s nothing wrong with that.”

The Revised Edition of ‘…And Justice For Art: Stories About Heavy Metal Album Covers’ is limited to 300 copies and it’s exclusively available right here.
