John Frum Posts “Presage Of Emptiness” Music Video

The patron saints of altered states known as John Frum welcome in the golden age of musical enlightenment with “A Stirring In The Noos.” Nearly 6 years in the making, John Frum’s unorthodox debut maneuvers through 40 minutes of darkly psychedelic and meticulously crafted death metal, acting as a medium for malefic musings, the backdrop of a bad trip.

The mysterious John Frum is the manifestation of four musical minds coalescing in a collective consciousness developed from time spent playing with The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Faceless, John Zorn, Cleric and many more elite projects. This collective statement was issued about the band name:

“The band John Frum borrows its alias from the Cargo Cults of the South Pacific. Similar to American soldiers receiving air-dropped supplies during WWII, these Cargo Cults believed certain behaviors and rituals would bring riches and ‘cargo’ down from the heavens. Some believed the elaborate flag rituals of the troops working the airfields would bring the arrival of more planes, when in fact the soldiers were just helping the pilots land.

“Essentially, we are all Cargo Cults, misunderstanding cause and effect, creating narratives and outcomes to support our clung-to beliefs about our strange traditions, all in a futile attempt to make some sense of things that simply don’t. Amongst other things, our music is a reaction to Cargo Cult Science in modern times. ‘A Stirring in the Noos’ is our humble greeting, the first transmissions from the mind of John Frum.”

Today, John Frum has unveiled a video for debut track, “Presage of Emptiness,” which can be viewed below. The band comments that this track is “a tribute to the ever-ebbing dark: consuming blindly and extinguishing indiscriminately, eclipsing itself and all of creation.”

Locust Leaves Releasing “A Subtler Kind Of Light”

Coming from Greece, Locust Leaves has been an elusive entity for a very long time. “A Subtler Kind Of Light,” the band’s first full-length album to be released professionally, is just the pinnacle of an underground trajectory spent far from the spotlights, cultivating an ecumenical vision of metal that along the years has spawned many quality recordings.

Featuring drummer Vorskaath (Zemial) and guitarist Ayloss (Spectral Lore), “A Subtler Kind Of Light” is graced by Nick K.’s passionate, spine-chilling vocal performance and by the talent of multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Helm, also author of the enigmatic album cover and inside artwork.

“The album is about transmutation,” explains Helm, “it’s about becoming who you’ve always known you had to be – and running against the manifestation of Empyrean law in the process: The Creator, overseeing the Pillar of All Names on which we are all carved in constellations of complicity in the injustice of this world. The cost paid for one’s desire for transmutation is high as the Good Lord mangles one in our name of the many.

“Logic, catalogue, the power of the archive prevails… Or does it? Even broken and crushed to near nothing, something remains. Something must always remain. A voice, a final utterance of a vague, illogical, recurring consonant/vowel that can’t be pinpointed down or disambiguated with our science: ‘h’. This last utterance turns a fall into flight, and tragedy to myth. A silver soul floats forever through the darkness and towards the more subtle light of the dark star in the sky.”

1. Light / Fos (08:22)
2. Pillar / Vraxos (11:01)
3. Fall / Ptosi (09:55)
4. Flight / Ptisi (06:13)

Oni Releases “Barn Burner” Lyric Video

Technical progressive metal band Oni has announced the release of debut scorcher “Ironshore,” due out Black Friday, November 25th via Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records.

After turning heads with first single “Eternal Recurrence,” the band is following with new track “Barn Burner,” which you can hear below. “Barn Burner” is presented in lyric video form, directed by Wovenwar/ex-As I Lay Dying guitarist Nick Hipa.

Bassist Chase Bryant discusses the inspiration behind the track: “Our front-man, Jake Oni, and I originally discussed including a ‘get in the pit and die’ track on the album, and ‘Barn Burner’ is that track. Musically, we went for something fast, heavy, and based around dream-like, mysterious tones. The track is inspired by a dream I had about parallel universes – I could see them all lined up like ripples in the water. A girl walked between the ripples and changed her surroundings at will. After having that vivid dream and working on conceptualizing it with Jake, the lyrics for ‘Barn Burner’ just poured themselves onto the page.”

1. Barn Burner
2. Eternal Recurrence
3. The Only Cure (featuring Randy Blythe of Lamb of God)
4. The Science
5. Spawn and Feed
6. Chasing Ecstasy
7. Kanvas
8. Thrive
9. Coast to Coast

– August 30th, 2016 –

On September 23rd, melodic death metal outfit Allegaeon will be releasing their fourth full-length, Proponent for Sentience, via Metal Blade Records. Today, the band has launched a performance video for the new album track, “All Hail Science”, which was shot at Black Sky Brewery in Denver, Colorado during the recording of Proponent for Sentience earlier this year. To watch the video, please visit:
youtube.com or vimeo.com

Allegaeon‘s Greg Burgess (guitar) comments: “We had the great pleasure of being allowed to shoot ‘All Hail Science’ at Black Sky Brewery here in Denver. We have a great selection of metal bars here and Black Sky is by far my favorite. It has such a friendly atmosphere and the staff and owners are so supportive of our local scene. Basically Black Sky let us throw a free show/party for anyone who wanted to show up. It’s pretty apparent from the video, but we had a blast that day. Huge thanks to Black Sky for their hospitality, SSS Productions for running sound and lights, Vince Edwards from Metal Blade for filming us being dumb, and the fans who showed up to party!”
