Live Stream Of New Album Release Show Announced By Satyricon

Only one duo is able to evoke sinister settings like the world of bleak woods lurking behind Norwegian wafts of mist. And that duo is legendary Satyricon. Formed in Oslo in 1991, Satyricon made an immediate and enduring impact when emerging from the flourishing Norwegian black metal scene.

With the brand new opus titled “Deep calleth upon Deep,” the iconic masters Satyr and Frost properly dispense the darkest art of metal. Satyricon’s highly anticipated ninth studio album will be coming out this Friday, September 22nd, on Napalm Records.

To celebrate the upcoming record, the band will play an exclusive and very special album release show – on the rooftop of the KLP building in the heart of Oslo!

300 fans will exclusively experience Satyricon live at this very special event, but the release concert will also be streamed live to fans around the world, before the band leaves for an extensive world tour!

“I always thought the Beatles gig on top of the Apple building in London, 1969, was such an intriguing thing and it really feels like a privilege to be able to do something like this ourselves. In our hometown too! Since this is to celebrate the release of “Deep calleth upon Deep”, we don’t want to exclude those who can’t be there with us that night, so I’m glad it’s being streamed worldwide. We’ll play the whole record and we’ll do it in style!” Satyricon frontman & visionary Satyr informs us.

Save the date and make sure to check into Satyricon’s Facebook page this Friday, September 22nd at 9pm CEST, when the masters of dark art will take over the city of Oslo for one of the most special shows to date!

Satyricon Unveils New Album “Deep Calleth Upon Deep”

Nearly three years in the making, Satyricon has announced that ninth studio album “Deep Calleth Upon Deep” is set for release on the 22nd of September via Napalm Records.

The album was recorded in Oslo, Norway and Vancouver, Canada, during early 2017 and mixed together with revered studio guru Mike Fraser. Frontman Satyr informs us:

“Approaching this release, what I always kept in mind is that either this is the beginning of something new or it’s gonna be my last record. If this is going to be the last, then it needs to be something special. If there are more records, then I’d better make sure that this is so different from the last one that it feels like a new beginning. I think it’s really, really dark, very spiritual and filled with confidence and energy.”

Satyr continues, “The way that I see it is that for any art, be it Satyricon or any other form of art with substance, in order for you to be able to inhale and completely understand it, it will take a little bit of you as well. If you get it all after a couple of listens, you know that it probably won’t stay with you. So the title is saying, ‘From the depth of the people making this record to the depth of the listener…’ If you want to take part in this journey, you should be prepared to dig deep down in the darkest corner of your soul with us.”

The band is also proud to share the album’s front cover – an obscure drawing from 1898 by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch.

Satyricon Vocalist Satyr Reveals Brain Tumor Diagnosis

Satyricon has been working on the follow-up to the band’s 2013 self-titled album, but unfortunately a wrench has been thrown in that works as vocalist / guitarist Sigurd “Satyr” Wongraven revealed via his Instagram account that he has a brain tumor. Satyr comments:

“I’m going home. I got extremely sick 8 days ago and was rushed to hospital. Scans have shown that there is a blind passenger in my head. Most likely it is benign. I can live with it as long as it does not grow bigger.

“Removing it is extremely complicated and should only be done if it grows into a size where it is a matter of life and death. We all get our set of cards and this happened to be one of mine. There are so many people who have to deal with much worse things than I do, so I do not feel sorry for myself.

“I have a great family, lots of friends, Satyricon, Wongraven Wines and many people who support my endeavours all over the world. I will spend the next two weeks trying to get my strength back, then try to starting writing on the new Satyricon again and pick up where I left on all my wine projects.”
