New Video “Afternow” Available From Blackfinger

Featuring the instantly recognizable vocals of former Trouble (and current The Skull) front man Eric Wagner, the doom group Blackfinger – which also features guitarist Terry Weston (Dream Death, Penance) – has unveiled a music video for the song “Afternow.” Filmed in the band’s rehearsal room, with additional footage added and edited by Rafael Ortega (Helsott, Ayreon), the clip can be seen in the player at the bottom.

Says Wagner, “I think ‘Afternow’ is about wondering why things are the way they are when they don’t really need to be. Maybe if we could only catch a glimpse of where we came from, it might be enough to change the future. (Wishful, I’m afraid.)”

“Afternow” comes from Blackfinger’s just-released M-Theory Audio debut, “When Colors Fade Away.” The album can currently be streamed on all digital platforms, while physical copies on CD and limited-edition blue/black marbled vinyl – which feature photos from Matt Bluejay and a striking graphic design by Al Oaks – can be purchased at M-Theory Audio’s online store and at select retailers worldwide.

Blackfinger has also announced a record release show, which will take place in Wagner’s current hometown of Pittsburgh at the venue Howlers on Oct. 28. The group will announce additional performances in the coming weeks.

Demon Eye Posts New Song “The Redeemer”

“Prophecies And Lies” is the forthcoming full-length release from North Carolina-based occult metal unit Demon Eye. Set for release via Soulseller Records, the eleven-track burner was recorded by Corrosion Of Conformity’s Mike Dean in the band’s hometown of Raleigh.

In advance of its release, today “The Redeemer” is offered up for public consumption below. Issues Demon Eye of the track: “With ‘The Redeemer,’ the band was trying something new. The riffing is stripped down to a sparse pattern in order to create a powerful dynamic through melody and the use of space. Lyrically, the song is an observation on human behavior, and how emotions like fear and anger are flip sides of the same coin.”

Furthermore, Demon Eye will a play a record release show this coming August with Captain Beyond, with additional live performances to be announced in the weeks ahead.

Cold Blooded Streams New Song “Forever War”

“Forever War” – a new track from Spokane, Washington’s own Cold Blooded – just came online and can be heard below. A sludgy song of epic proportions, the track is taken from the forthcoming full-length album “Throne Burner,” due to be released via Blackhouse Records (Prison Religion, Ras Kass) on 7/21 and produced by Bill Nieman.

Speaking on the album’s title and lyrical through-line for the songs, vocalist Ethan Kennedy said: “In the past I wrote lyrics inspired by books or films that affected me. However with Throne Burner I started writing shortly before the presidential election and I knew no matter who won, a good deal of this country would be supremely pissed off and extremely divided.

“I wrote about all the negativity and violence in America and the influences that in turn has on our society. Some songs are from the perspective of someone directly affected by the violence, some deal with those of us viewing it in the media and even to the perspective of someone who wants to perpetrate the violence.”

To further hone the sonic chaos the band enlisted Topon Das of avant-grind freaks Fuck The Facts to contribute several sound-collage interludes (as well as master the record). Speaking on Das’s relationship to the band, Kennedy related: “we’ve opened for Fuck The Facts several times and they are one of our favorite bands. We also bonded because our old drummer owns a food truck of some renown and we invited them down after a show to gorge themselves. That definitely solidified our friendship.”

Speaking on Das’s interludes, Kennedy continues “he really went out of his way to get our input into what we wanted for those segments to even revising what he did based on my opinion. In the end he created some very palpable moods/messages that fit the album perfectly.”

The band has several shows confirmed around the record release (listed below) and will also be supporting Decapitated and Thy Art Is Murder in Spokane.

7/20 Spokane, WA The Pin (Record Release Show!)
8/18 Seattle, WA The Kraken Klaw
8/19 Everett, WA Tony V’s Garage Klaw, Method 13

NY In 64 Posts New Song “50 Lbs Of Ash”

New Jersey-based instrumental hardcore outfit NY In 64 has released a first single from impending second album, “The Gentle Indifference Of The Night,” which is nearing release later this month through Magic Bullet Records.

The first example of the record’s lush riffs and tones is on display with “50 Lbs Of Ash” – listen in below. Offers guitarist Chris Alfano:

“For roughly a year and a half or so, NY In 64 has been in a long-distance relationship. Our bassist, Tom, moved to Albany, New York from New Jersey, but we were determined to keep the band going. ’50 Lbs of Ash’ was the first song we wrote in full after transitioning to a new way of doing things, which involved sending recordings back and forth and then cramming things into longer weekend sessions when we were able to get all four of us in the room.

“So I remember being especially happy with the way this one turned out – not just because it covers so much ground (from quiet and creepy, to us at our heaviest, to triumphant harmonies), but also because we wrote one of our best songs in spite of working around new logistical challenges. So uh…high-fives all around, I guess?”

NY In 64 has booked a record release weekend May 26th through 28th with shows in Flemington, Providence, and Brooklyn, and new tour dates are being planned as well.

5/26/2017 Flemington DIY – Flemington, NJ
5/27/2017 Psychic Readings – Providence, RI
