Toronto-based experimental doom trio Volur has signed to Prophecy Productions (Alcest, Amber Asylum, Arcturus). Formed in 2013 by Lucas Gadke (Blood Ceremony) and Laura C. Bates (Fresh Snow), Volur aims to “re-awaken the ancient trance,” producing music that combines ambient folk and doom metal, while drawing on folk melodies and heathen spirituality.
The band’s debut album, “Disir,” originally released in limited cassette pressings, will be reissued by Prophecy on June 24th with expanded packaging.
With a name derived from “völva,” a powerful seeress in Norse folklore, the group builds its sound and slant upon its fascination with by European history, delving deep into the wide array of Germanic myth.
“We are extremely honored and excited to be working with Prophecy Productions as we have been a fan of the label for many years,” comments Volur’s Gadke. “We could not have found a more perfect match; a supportive, experimental label that has a real connection to its audience. We look forward to recording our first album in the coming months and having our first performance in Europe at the 2016 Prophecy Fest.”
