Recordings For Sophomore Album Scheduled For Feburary By Apophys

After a successful European tour with Vader, Hate Eternal, Threat Signal and Lord of War, Dutch death metal band Apophys is ready to record the sophomore album and follow up to the highly acclaimed debut “Prime Incursion,” which was released by Metal Blade Records in 2014.

The band will hit the studio in February to begin recording drums with producer Yuma van Eekelen (Exivious, Pestilence). The album is set to be mixed and mastered by Stefano Morabito (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour of Penance).

Vocalist Kevin Quilligan commented: “We are incredibly excited for our second album. We have been working very hard to get all the tracks ready and I can’t wait to get started. This album will show a more varied and dynamic side of the band, as well as sticking true to what we love. With Yuma and Stefano on board I’m sure the result will be immense.”

The album artwork and title will be released soon but in the meantime, make sure to follow the band for frequent updates.

Apophys debut “The Red Planet” video online

– July 21st, 2015 –

Dutch death metal newcomers, Apophys, have launched a new music video for “The Red Planet.” This track is taken from their debut album, “Prime Incursion,” which is available worldwide now. The video was shot and directed by Sebastiaan Spijker at Beyond the Digit, with makeup and effects by Timmermans at Horror Grime NL. As for the theme behind the visual, the band gives us the details in the following statement:

The lyrical theme behind ‘The Red Planet’ is the idea of creation and transcending what has been done before. The main character in the song creates something so perfect he values it above anything else. We tried to weave this concept into the plot of our new video; you will witness an entity from a place unknown fashioning his own form of life, only to keep wanting more after the success of the first one. Things get chaotic, risky, and weird. In the end, his experiment results in five human-like organisms that will be the start of a completely new race.

View “The Red Planet” now at metalblade.com/apophys!

Apophys is comprised of musicians from God Dethroned, Prostitute Disfigurement, Detonation and Toxocara among others. Thrusting forth nine deviant hymns of grisly, sci-fi-tinged death metal centered on themes extending from transcendental travel, rapid evolutionary progression, and global epidemics, to artificial intelligence in all-out war with their maker, “Prime Incursion” recalls the repugnant charm of death metal legends like Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Immolation and Pyrexia.

A word derived from Apophis, an asteroid that, upon initial observations, indicated a probability that it would hit Earth on April 13th, 2029 causing a collision of immeasurable proportions, APOPHYS was spawned in 2012 and have since been surgically carving their path within the annals of the modern death metal scene. Prime Incursion was mixed by vocalist Kevin Quilligan and mastered by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour Of Penance etc.), and was released in North America on April 7th, 2015 via Metal Blade Records. CD’s are still available at metalblade.com/apophys where you can also test drive first single, “Requiem For The Absurd.”

APOPHYS: Dutch Death Metal Unit Unveils “The Antidote” Play-Through Video At Gear Gods

– March 27th, 2015 –

Prime Incursion Release Day Draws Near

Dutch death metal unit, APOPHYS – who unites members of God Dethroned, Prostitute Disfigurement, Detonation and Toxocara among others – will uncork their smoldering Prime Incursion debut full-length in less than two weeks via Metal Blade Records. Thrusting forth nine deviant hymns of grisly, sci-fi-tinged death metal centered on themes extending from transcendental travel, rapid evolutionary progression, and global epidemics, to artificial intelligence in all-out war with their maker, Prime Incursion recalls the repugnant charm of death metal legends like Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Immolation and Pyrexia.

Already piquing the ears of critics both stateside and abroad, Sound The Charge issues of the offering, “APOPHYS, while still quick and with a good chunk of technicality present, have clearly made the song writing the number one focus and as such, have created songs that are memorable and succinct. The songs don’t blend into one death metal mess…,” while Glacially Musical notes, “Prime Incursion is uptempo, dynamic, and has a great mix. APOPHYS has quickly carved out their own niche in a genre full of too many imitators.” Adds No Clean Singing of the track “Miscreants” specifically, “The pummeling begins immediately with a phalanx of hammering riffs that seem dedicated to pounding you into the ground like a nail driven through wood, and the start-stop jackhammering doesn’t stop. The music is a ticket straight to headbang city, but that’s not all it is.”

As another Prime Incursion teaser, today Gear Gods is hosting the play-through video accompaniment to “The Antidote,” with the band elaborating of the track, “‘The Antidote’ is a death metal must. The drums are fast, the riffs are fast, the vocals are fast, you get the picture. The song tells a story of humanity’s ultimate cure for itself, a final solution as people start to transform into beings that are focused on nothing other than consumption. This gives it a twist one could see relevant to our current society. Eventually the urge to consume backfires resulting in humanity consuming itself and thus, providing the answer to the final problem; us.”

– March 12th, 2015 –

A word derived from Apophis, an asteroid that, upon initial observations, indicated a probability that it would hit Earth on April 13th, 2029 causing a collision of immeasurable proportions, Dutch death metal legion, APOPHYS – who feature within their bestial ranks members of God Dethroned, Prostitute Disfigurement, Detonation and Toxocara among others — was spawned in 2012 and have since been surgically carving their path within the annals of the modern death metal scene.

Prime Incursion is their forthcoming debut full-length, slated to slay the masses via Metal Blade Records next month. Mixed by vocalist Kevin Quilligan and mastered by Stefano Morabito at 16th Cellar Studio (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hour Of Penance etc.), the record boasts nine vicious hymns of Sci-Fi-tinged death metal centered on themes ranging from transcendental travel, rapid evolutionary progression, and global epidemics, to artificial intelligence in all-out war with their maker.

In celebration of its release, today brutality portal No Clean Singing is very pleased to offer up second cut, “Miscreants” for public broadcast. Comments the band of the latest single, “‘Miscreants’ tells a tale about experimental creation. The song develops itself around this story. First there is the experiment, lead on by a grooving start. Then there is the realization of failure; the experiment has gone horribly wrong. The last phase is the destruction of the experiment. Lead by a furious, blast beat ridden, climax to end“.

Adds No Clean Singing: “The pummeling begins immediately with a phalanx of hammering riffs that seem dedicated to pounding you into the ground like a nail driven through wood, and the start-stop jackhammering doesn’t stop. The music is a ticket straight to headbang city, but that’s not all it is.

Get walloped by “Miscreants” at THIS LOCATION.

Prioritizing song structure above technicality, APOPHYS manifests an audio assault that’s at once vicious, guttural and meticulously-arranged yet wholly organic and infectiously memorable recalling the repugnant charm of death metal legends like Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, Immolation and Pyrexia. A word derived from Apophis, an asteroid that, upon initial observations, indicated a probability that it would hit Earth on April 13th, 2029 causing a collision of immeasurable proportions, APOPHYS was forged in 2012 and have since been surgically carving their path within the annals of the modern death metal scene.
