Poison Idea Announces New Album “Confuse And Conquer”

It is with massive enthusiasm that Southern Lord Recordings announces the impending brand new studio LP from long-running, Oregon-based American hardcore punk outfit, Poison Idea. The label comments:

“Over recent months, out of the public eye, the current Poison Idea lineup has been intermittently raiding Audiosiege in Portland for clandestine recording and mastering sessions, covertly harnessing their first new album since 2006’s Latest Will And Testament LP.

“Bearing eleven raging new anthems, the new album has been titled Confuse & Conquer. Recorded by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust) and mastered by Brad Boatright (From Ashes Rise), the record booms with thirty-five minutes of fully ignited hardcore punk in the monolithic style the band has provided for three-and-a-half decades now.

“Though Confuse & Conquer is the first new Poison Idea album to be released since the passing of iconic guitarist Tom ‘Pig Champion’ Roberts in early 2006, the loved, infectious sound delivered on the band’s seminal albums including 1990’s Feel The Darkness and 1992’s Blank Blackout Vacant blazes through the entire album.

“Poison Idea currently includes Eric ‘The Vegetable’ Olsen, back on lead guitar. He was the first real lead guitarist in the band and the second player after Pig Champion, and he played on the 1987’s War All the Time LP and 1988-released Filthkick EP. The band also welcomes the return of Chris “Spider” Carey on bass, who played on Latest Will And Testament, the last recording before Pig passed. The lineup is rounded out with Brandon Bentley also joining on guitar, Nathan ‘Skinny’ Richardson on drums, and as always, founding vocalist Jerry A. Lang handles the hot-blooded vocal delivery.”

“What can I say? We’re all happy with the record,” reports Jerry A., on the completion of Confuse & Conquer. “It’s a group effort; we all had a part in writing the songs. We’ve been screwing around for too long. We had to hang back and see whose heart was really in this thing we’ve been doing for thirty years and who was bullshitting. We have a lot of touring to do next year, to make up for the last one being cancelled due to people with the wrong priorities. Everybody in the band now lives to play and make music; that comes first. It always has, it just took a long time to filter out the flakes, and keep the diehards. So these guys know how to make this ship float. As far as I’m concerned, it feels like being reborn, having a second wind, a hardcore revival, and just discovering meaning, all at the same time. To put it mildly, we’re happy, I’m happy, and this is just the start. No stopping from here out.”

Issues Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson on the signing and upcoming album: “I’ve been a rabid Poison Idea fiend ever since seeing them decimate the legendary Gorilla Gardens in Seattle in 1985. Having the opportunity to work with this legendary band all these years later is an inexplicable honor.”

The “Confuse & Conquer” album is being slated for a Spring 2015 release through Southern Lord Recordings, who, in conjunction with TKO, has been reintroducing deluxe versions of Poison Idea’s back-catalog over recent years, including “Darby Crash Rides Again,” “The Fatal Erection Years,” and “Kings Of Punk.”

Obliterations Reveals “Poison Everything” Album Details

Southern Lord today dispatches the full details for “Poison Everything,” the debut full-length from Southern California’s unhinged punk/hardcore outfit, Obliterations.

Comprised of current and ex-members of Black Mountain, Saviours, and Night Horse, Obliterations delivers a blazing blend of Poison Idea, Discharge, and Black Flag, set to a live show that willfully incites and encourages one’s aggressive tendencies to shine.

A day after returning from the Southwest U.S. tour in March, the band recorded with producer Chris Owens (Lords, Coliseum, Young Widows) at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in only three days. Mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire, Black Breath) at God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Tragedy, Integrity, Sleep) at Audiosiege, the end result of “Poison Everything” is a thirteen-song, twenty-nine-minute record full of raw brutality.

“Poison Everything” will see worldwide release on Southern Lord in North America on October 28th and just one day earlier in Europe. The track listing is as follows:

1. Mind Ain’t Right
2. The One That Got Away
3. The Narcissist
4. Poison Everything
5. Black Out
6. Head Wound
7. Scapegoat
8. Shame
9. Normalized Decline
10. Ad Nauseam
11. Open Casket
12. The Middle Of The End
13. Crawl Inside

Poison Idea To Reissue “Bloated Edition” For “Kings Of Punk”

Following last year’s resurrection of “Darby Crash Rides Again” and “The Fatal Erection Years,” Southern Lord is preparing to deliver the latest release in a series of reissues from Poison Idea’s potent catalog, with an expanded edition of the band’s 1986 LP, “Kings of Punk.”

Southern Lord will re-unleash the 2xCD “Bloated Edition” of this beast in North America on November 26th. The following press release was also issued:

“An unmistakable rager of an album by the Portland hardcore berzerkers, on their second full-length Poison Idea had begun tightening their blazing nailbomb eruptions of noise of their earliest material reflected, and where they really began developing what would become their signature sound. Kicking off with the riff Discharge wish they had written, Kings of Punk is a big, bold slab of premium American hardcore, with undertones of the hard rockin’ bombast which would define their later works. From the crazed splutter of ‘God Not God,’ tripping over itself in a wonderful mess of distress, to the sneering blast of ‘Made To Be Broken,’ this is Poison Idea at their unparalleled, grittiest, snottiest best.

“Kings of Punk perfectly encapsulates one of the most important bands of the era who took the template of the early ’80s and perverted it to fit their own twisted desires. The three live sets, taken from the years ’84-’86, offer an even more revealing snapshot of Poison Idea in their destructive prime, drawling insults at the audience, the world and themselves and filling two full CDs, brought kicking and thrashing back to life by Jack Control (World Burns to Death). As well as the unhinged audio content, this reissueis packed with liner notes, archive flyers and photos of the band from the era.”

Poison Idea Announces "The Fatal Erection Years" Reissue

The newest in a series of reissues from Portland’s Poison Idea via Southern Lord has been confirmed. Following the reissue of “Darby Crash Rides Again” early this year, the next in line comes in the form of PI’s “The Fatal Erection Years;” featuring forty-five raw, filthy nasty tracks. The following press release was issued about the band:

“Poison Idea’s official debut release was 1983’s short, lo-fi blast of punk/hardcore fury, the Pick Your King EP. The infamous jacket featured a ‘choice’ of two kings, Jesus (front cover) and Elvis Presley (back cover). It was released on the bands own Fatal Erection label. In 1984, the band released the Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes 12” (the cover, featuring guitarist Pig Champion’s substantial vinyl collection). The record found the band incorporating subtle heavy rock elements into their music which was further honed on their contribution to the 1985 Drinking Is Great compilation 7” with the track ‘Laughing Boy.’ Both Record Collectors… and Drinking… were also self-released on Fatal Erection Records. By this time (84-85), POISON IDEA was in full swing and were perfecting their signature wall of sound: a raging punk attack.

“In cooperation with the band and TKO Records, Southern Lord is honored to release the CD version of The Fatal Erection Years. This compilation collects the Pick Your King 7”, Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes LP, and 4 compilation tracks from the era. Exclusive to this CD version, is the entire live set from the band at their best in Portland circa 1983. Live at the Met features 19 live, raw punk blasts and effectively brings this essential archival document to a raucous, destructive end. The audio has been remastered and restored by Jack Control (World Burns to Death, Severed Head of State), and the poster/booklet contains liner notes from Poison Idea vocalist Jerry A, and tons of photos, flyers and more from the band’s early days. A must have for the die-hard fans and any fan of true hardcore, punk rock!

“The Fatal Erection Years will see North American release on August 14th, just two weeks before Poison Idea will storm the two-day The Power Of The Riff East in Brooklyn the same night as Agnostic Front, Pentagram, Negative Approach, Xibalba and more!

“Southern Lord will continue to reissue seminal Poison Ideareleases over the coming months including War All The Time, Ian Mackaye, Feel The Darkness, We Must Burn and Last Will & Testament. Stay tuned.”

Primate Streaming New Song "Silence Of Violence"

As Relapse prepares to officially release Primate’s debut LP “Draw Back A Stump” into the general population on July 3rd, today another new track from the beast has been unleashed. Check out “Silence Of Violence” and get some info on how the group and album came together via Blow The Scene right here.

Also from the album, the track “Pride” is available via a Relapse lyric video in the player available below. The following press release was also issued about the album:

“Primate’s grind-infused hardcore punk ruckus brings the relentless spirit of the genre’s pioneers like Poison Idea, Doom, Bad Brains, Napalm Death and Discharge into the modern age with super slick and thunderous production and a foundation-leveling sonic beating. Formed by vocalist Kevin Sharp, bassist/vocalist Dave Whitworth, drummer Shayne Huff and guitarists Bill Kelliher and Mike Brennan, the band dispersed a 1000-run CD pressing of Draw Back A Stump on their own last year.

“Shortly after, they joined forces with Relapse who are now preparing to officially release a remixed and remastered version of the album worldwide in all formats, featuring three tracks not on the original release. Preorders are available here.

“Following several destructive live appearances last year after the album was initially released, this new version will see Primate taking to the streets once again, as live confrontations and more are being planned to take place in the months ahead.”

Demisor Inks Deal With Pulverised Records, Streaming Promo Track "Theocracy Revile"

Singaporean grind pioneers Demisor have officially inked a worldwide deal with Pulverised Records. The following press release was issued:

“Formed in 1987, the unsung Demisor specialize in sonic devastation with their earliest bout of buzzsaw guitar lashes and maniacal blasts appearing on their Mestectomy and Oral Climax demos released in 1990 and 1992 respectively. Today the epic Demisor discography includes over a dozen split releases in true grind fashion. The band is currently penning new material for the upcoming as-yet-untitled EP, which will be released later this year via Pulverised Records.”

Commented Demisor in a collective statement: “It’s an honor to work with Pulverised as we do know of their professionalism towards the core of extreme music. Pulverised indeed gave us the privilege to blast out to the masses our kind of uber obliterating grindcore! The upcoming mini-album will pummel all aspects of grind holocaust that Demisor has ever churned out! Be warned!”

Added Pulverised Records A&R Manager Calvin Chiang commented: “It was no coincidence that Demisor came to be a part of the Pulverised roster; we’ve known the guys for years and have always shown a positive interest in releasing something for them but unfortunately, the time was never right as the other members in Demisor were heavily involved in their other bands. Towards the end of 2011, we received news that Demisor is now officially back in full force and with the new EP planned and as well as a short European tour coming up, there is no other better time than now to solidify the Demisor/Pulverised alliance. Demisor 2012 will show how grind is properly done!”

Check out Demisor’s latest blistering promo track, “Theocracy Revile” at the Pulverised Records SoundCloud Page.

In related news, the band recently announced its inclusion on this year’s edition of the infamous Obscene Extreme Festival in Trutnov, Czech Republic. Demisor will share the stage with 69 bands including Exhumed, the reunited Nasum, Asphyx, Discharge, Poison Idea, Cephalic Carnage and many more. In conjunction with this stop at the fest, and in promotion of the upcoming EP, Demisor will embark on a mini European tour. Further info to be announced soon.
