Pilgrim announces tour dates with Castle, Blizaro

– May 23rd, 2016 –

Rhode Island’s doom metal trio Pilgrim has announced a short east coast run this August! Featuring Castle and Blizaro on the bill, these shows are not to be missed; see below for all dates.

Pilgrim tour dates
w/ Castle, Blizaro

Aug. 4 – Ralph’s Rock Diner – Worcester, MA
Aug. 5 – The Acheron – Brooklyn, NY
Aug. 6 – The Fire – Philadelphia, PA

The Wizard (guitar/vocals) comments: “We are very excited and grateful to be asked to join Castle on the east-coast portion of their tour. We are also ecstatic to reunite with John Gallow, a great friend and a huge inspiration and influence, and finally see the almighty Blizaro live! Hopefully we’ll get some Dungeons and Dragons in on the journey to Philadelphia!”

Pilgrim will be playing in support of their latest album, II: Void Worship. A frighteningly crushing exercise in pure, sonic doom, II: Void Worship ebbs and flows into frenzied climaxes, while fading into sweet audio depressions – all molding perfectly crafted rock songs into twisted spires of shadowy doom metal epics. Put simply, Pilgrim‘s sophomore full-length is “one of 2014′s most satisfying drams of doom” (Spin.com). To preview and purchase II: Void Worship, please visit: metalblade.com/pilgrim

Pilgrim premieres new video for “Paladin” via MetalInjection.net

– December 10th, 2015 –

Rhode Island’s doom metal trio Pilgrim has launched a new video for “Paladin”, taken from their 2014 album II: Void Worship. Directed by Jon Schnepp (Metalocalypse, Upright Citizens Brigade, The Venture Brothers), “Paladin” can be viewed now at MetalInjection.net.

Pilgrim‘s Jon “The Wizard” Rossi (guitar and vocals) comments: “We feel so lucky to have gotten to work with Jon Schnepp. He was amazing and fun to work with. We have always been huge Metalocalypse fans so it was a dream come true to add that show’s style and art to our music. It truly is an honor.
We shot the video about a year and a half ago, and since then we’ve been waiting eagerly and impatiently to see its release. We are more than happy with the end results and, quite frankly, pretty shocked – it’s really far out.”

Director Jon Schnepp adds: “Making the music video ‘Paladin’ for Pilgrim has been a blast! The band was totally down with me taking a literal D&D visual approach, and letting it get crazy! Rossi and the entire band performed incredibly in dual roles, as the Wizard and the Paladin, with great backgrounds by Sam Shearon, and special effects makeup by Cig Neutron and Rannie Rodil as the Demoness. I’m very excited for the rest of the world to experience ‘Paladin’ by Pilgrim!”

Jon Schnepp is an American Writer/Producer/Director/Host/Entertainer living and working in Hollywood, California. He has directed such popular cult media as Metalocalypse, Upright Citizens Brigade, The Venture Brothers, The ABCs of Death, Marvel’s Black Panther, and directed music videos for bands like Dethklok, Exodus, and Pilgrim. Jon has been a host on the popular award winning web series “Collider Movie Talk” for the past three years, also hosting “Collider Heroes, Collider Movie Talk”, and his own show “Sweaty Nerds”. He recently released the feature film documentary he wrote, co-produced and directed “The Death of ‘Superman Lives’; What Happened?” to much critical acclaim, scoring 92% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Recorded at Moonlight Mile Recording by Mike Moebius and centered on tales of swords and sorcery, Pilgrim‘s II: Void Worship is a frighteningly crushing exercise in pure, sonic doom. Critically-lauded doom purveyors, Pilgrim, announce headline tour with support from Age of Taurus!

– May 6th, 2014 –

Rhode Island’s Pilgrim are returning to the road in June with Age of Taurus! The east coast/Midwest tour begins on June 14th in New Bedford, MA and wraps up in Brooklyn on June 25th at the Acheron. The entire list of confirmed dates are available below, as well as on facebook.com/hailthepilgrim.

Recorded at Moonlight Mile Recording by sound sage Mike Moebius and centered on tales of swords and sorcery, death, doom and widespread obliteration, PILGRM‘s “II: Void Worship” is a frighteningly crushing exercise in pure, sonic doom. Each of its eight tracks ebb and flow into frenzied climaxes and fade into sweet audio depressions, molding perfectly crafted rock songs into twisted spires of critic, shadowy doom metal epics.

“Pilgrim’s lyrics read like fantasy novels, and when The Wizard sings of sword and steel with his powerhouse voice, you want nothing more than to cast aside your worldly possessions and join the glorious quest.” Spin

“Whatever the band lacks in speed, it makes up for in concussive impact. The band’s second full-length, II: Void Worship is a crushing barrage of sustained power chords, gut-churning string bends, deliberate drum bashing and otherworldly vocals about beefy warriors and barren wastelands.” Noisey.com

Since the early 2012 unveiling of their debut sonic behemoth, Misery Wizard, fans and critics alike have patiently yet anxiously awaited the second chapter in the ongoing legacy of the mighty Rhode Island trio that is PILGRIM. Their first release shook the metal underground to its core, making a loud, in-your-face effort to bring doom metal back to its most minimalist and archaic roots, restoring it to its former glory. Their critical success, paired with their controversial interviews and emotionally draining live performances have lead PILGRIM to excellence, traversing the globe performing sold-out shows in multiple countries and playing festivals alongside some of the biggest names in their genre. Two years later, the fabled outfit has returned with a brand new record, the highly anticipated next installment of their aural adventure, “II: Void Worship“.

II: Void Worship” was released on April 1, 2014 in North America, and on March 28/31 in Europe/UK via Metal Blade Records. Music, cds, vinyl, and links to purchase the album digitally are available at http://www.metalblade.com/pilgrim.

PILGRIM set to support SAMOTHRACE on tour!

– February 19th, 2013 –

Critically acclaimed debut “Misery Wizard” available now

Rhode Island doom act PILGRIM will kick off a short run of tour dates on February 24th with SAMOTHRACE. The dates begin in New Orleans on February 24th and the band plans to unveil new material on stage throughout the tour, so fans at these shows will be the first to experience brand new music! This upcoming tour is special for us as we will be going to places we’ve yet to perform at and have some new material to unleash. Be forewarned and hails to the supporters!”

“They plod with vigor, they howl wretchedly, they gnash their musical teeth with glee.” Decibel Magazine

“these Sabbathian hymns to the void are about as close to doom metal perfection as it’s possible to get.” Kerrang Magazine – #43/100 Album of the Year

“Traditional doom junkies rejoice, because ‘Misery Wizard’ is an absolutely brilliant album consisting of six epic, fantastical tracks of crushing, deceptively hypnotic and magickal doom where no singular highlight exists – each track can stand alone – because the entire effort is a highlight.” Terrorizer Magazine

PILGRIM consists of: drummer Krolg Splinterfist, the Slayer of Man, bassist Count Elric the Soothsayer and guitarist/vocalist The Wizard. With a mix of destruction, misery and beauty, these young disciples of doom blend a surprisingly original sword ‘n’ sorcery feel with the classic chest-caving heaviness of the masters, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram. Their thick walls of majestically darkened guitar, massive booming bass, and dangerously powerful yet calculated drumming lull listeners into an intense dream-like trance, abducting them to places they never knew were dwelling within their own minds. Commented Pitchfork: “…in a realm where the old-school and the experimental push against one another in an eternally dynamic non-equilibrium, it’s certainly not about who your influences are. It’s, of course, about how you use them. PILGRIM simply have fun with these predecessors, renewing old sounds with the zeal of teenage boys worshiping cheap Sabbath posters on their bedroom walls and the skills of players who’ve been at this for a while. PILGRIM sing about devils and tears, paying dues and surviving adventures, taking care to touch on most of the requisite tropes while not pushing any one too far… This is an excellent debut from a preternaturally developed upstart.”

Samothrace To Kick Off New Tour Tonight

Seattle doom merchants Samothrace will embark on a U.S. Winter tour in support of the “Reverence To Stone” LP with a hometown show tonight.

For the duration of the tour, Samothrace will be performing “Reverence To Stone” in its entirety each night. Joined by Metal Blade doom trio Pilgrim for the majority of the trek, the tour will make a mangled, counter-clockwise loop through the Midwest, Gulf Coast, Southeast and up the East Coast, with eighteen cities confirmed to endure slow motion turmoil during the venture.

The tour is sponsored by Invisible Oranges, which today posted a pre-tour feature on the band. On the creation of Samothrace’s mammoth but infectious hymns, guitarist Brian Spinks states, “Our songs start with a set of riffs and we play it a couple different ways and play until it varies. We spend a lot of time making sure everything flows together and when we play the song over and over, the riffs then start to evolve and morph in and out of each other.”

In a recent MetalSucks tour feature, Samothrace drummer Joe Axler commented, “When we perform these songs live most of the time we end up actually playing some parts slower and some parts faster depending on the mood we are in and the feeling we are getting in the room and from the people in attendance. We feed off of the people in the crowd greatly and (without sounding too hippy) the general aura at each show has a huge affect on how our set goes.”
