Artillery releases video for third single, “Pain”

– November 8th, 2018 –

November 16th sees Artillery release their new album, The Face Of Fear – which is the successor to 2016′s Penalty By Perception. The Danes have now launched a video for the 3rd single taken off the album – “Pain” – which can be seen here: https://youtu.be/HBtQsvZyquM

Guitarist Michael Stutzer comments: “The story behind ‘Pain’ is a true story, about an alcoholic who was never listening to his friends or family when they tried to make him stop and quit drinking. And when he got to the point where he realized himself, he had to stop – it was too late and there was no way out anymore. The video for ‘Pain’ was recorded in Kolding and Randers by Morten Madsen (MSM production), who also directed our previous videos for ‘Legions’ and ‘Live by the Scythe’.”

The Face Of Fear is the band’s 9th studio album and the third with the current line-up. To hear the previous singles, “The Face Of Fear” and “Crossroads To Conspiracy”, please visit: metalblade.com/artillery – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–golden yellow blue marbled vinyl (ltd. 200 – EU-exclusive)
–blue green / white splattered vinyl (ltd. 100 – EMP-exclusive)

The lyrics are Artillery as you know them, with subjects concerning the destruction of mankind, double standards, abuse and the looming worst-case scenarios. The Face Of Fear was recorded with long-time producer Soren Andersen at Medley Studios. It’s Soren’s fifth time at the helm, and once again he manages to deliver a monster production. Soren comments: “Pure and raw! Some of the material of this album was originally written in the early 80′s, and that inspired us to go old school this time. Not too many layers, just classic Artillery thrash metal…And Bastholm is better than ever on this one. This is a no-filler album, created together with the band. I’m really proud of the final result and I hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I do!”

Artillery releases second single, “Crossroads to Conspiracy”, from new album, ‘The Face of Fear’

– October 17th, 2018 –

November 16th sees Artillery release their new album, The Face Of Fear – which is the successor to 2016′s Penalty By Perception. The Danes have now launched the 2nd single taken off the album – “Crossroads To Conspiracy” – which can be heard here: youtube.com/watch?v=spok2IpJXhE

Guitarist Michael Stutzer comments: “‘Crossroads To Conspiracy’ was one of the very last songs we crafted, and it’s a hard-hitting melodic thrash metal song with the typical Artillery riffing. The lyrics are about how you have been cursed by the wrong choices you’ve made. The wrongdoings of others that you used to condemn others for have been committed by yourself.”

I’m really proud of the final result and I hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I do!”

Artillery comments about the video for “The Face Of Fear”: “Most of the scenes for the video were shot at Amager strand park right outside of Copenhagen. And the live scenes go back to when the band visited Japan and played at the Thrash Dominations together with Exodus, Voivod and Sanctuary. The video was shot by the band’s good friend Terkel Christensen, who also did the video ‘When The Magic is Gone’, from the last album, ‘Penalty By Perception‘. The song is about dealing the end of man by himself. We create our own phobia about the destruction of the world, but remain disrespectful to the globe.”

Monte Pittman reveals details for two new albums, ‘Better or Worse’ and ‘Between the Space’

– July 17th, 2018 –

Launches two new singles “Evidence” and “Depth Perception”; announces USA tour with Sebastian Bach

There are great guitarists, great vocalists and great songwriters, but Monte Pittman is one of the elite few who can truly lay claim to all three titles – and on August 31st, he once again raises the stakes with two new solo albums: Better Or Worse and Between The Space . Monte comments:

“The album ‘Between The Space‘ is a heavy album that gets straight to the point as soon as it starts. The theme is about connection, alignment, and what divides those things. As always when I write, my goal is coming up with the material that fits in my live show. I did everything on these albums. I wrote it all, I played every instrument, I recorded it, and I mixed it. The only thing I didn’t do was the artwork (by Aaron Lea) and mastering (by Alan Douches). It was a challenge having so many tasks. It was a luxury being able to take the time and get everything just how I wanted it. It was a learning experience, and it was a lot of fun making it.

The album ‘Better Or Worse‘ is an acoustic album but it feels like a heavy album. The theme is about being attached to something or being unattached. It could be an idea or a thought process. The softest part of the album has the heaviest lyrics. It builds instrumentally as the album progresses. I wanted the tone of each track to be a little different from each other. ‘Better Or Worse‘ and ‘Between The Space‘ both mirror each other and they are polar opposites. The idea is to have something there for the people who like my heavy music, something for the people who like my acoustic music, and something for the people who like the variety of both.”

For a preview of both albums, please visit: metalblade.com/montepittman – where the new singles “Depth Perception” (from Better Or Worse ) and “Evidence” (from Between The Space ) can be streamed, and the records can be pre-ordered on CD.

“‘Evidence’ is the opening track off ‘Between The Space,’” Monte adds. “This is a great introduction to the album. It has a little bit of everything I’ve done up until now and taken it a few steps further.
‘Depth Perception’ is also the opening track off ‘Better Or Worse‘. I wanted this album, and especially this song in particular, to be acoustic but feel like a heavy album.”

Between The Space track-listing
1. Evidence
2. Ominous / Hope
3. Changing of the Guard
4. Between the Space
5. Once Upon a Time
6. Equal Temperament

At The Gates Posts New Video, “Daggers Of Black Haze” Online

Swedish melodic death metal revolutionaries At The Gates has posted a new music video online for the song, “Daggers Of Black Haze.” You can check it out below. The song comes from the group’s forthcoming new studio album, “To Drink From The Night Itself,” which will be released on May 18th through Century Media.

At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg commented: “‘Daggers Of Black Haze’represents the more progressive side of the new record. It has a lot of reference-points to our early back catalogue, both style wise, and the emotional setting. It is desperate and urgent, but still melancholic and epic. It is conceptually one of the cornerstones of the album. Driving home the point of the need for a war on apathy and the populistic forces that takes advantage of it. This is a fight against the abyss. A beacon for the importance of real art, real forms of expression, and importance of our understanding of our mutual cultural history. The video was filmed by Costin Chioreanu once again, and it is full of symbolism and heavy on the conceptual side. Costin displays the war for art and the importance of standing up to the oppressive powers and paradigms with his film. It is beautiful, striking, melancholic and I am very happy to see his vision of my concept.”

Video director Costin Chioreanu added: “Being aware of the heavy topic in this song I realized that making a video for it represents a mandatory mission for the art, in general. Speaking today of the way how the ruling class guided the evolution in art and the perception upon it, the weight of the history, which is deeply buried in the artifacts’ structures and ideologies, I take this song and the means of illustrating it as a pure and genuine artistic attitude. In the course of time, an imposed perception projected through the manipulation of the art by those holding the power, took the shape of an idol in the viewers’ eyes, it became their main light, the source of the imaginary, artistic beliefs and patterns. The presence of the main character depicted on the newest At The Gates cover and artwork – Alcyoneus, the oldest hero among the giant warriors – is here as well. His bust was rebuilt for this video, but it got a new face. Now his mouth is closed and therefore, he is reduced to silence due to the new paradigms and the oppression’s influence in art. Yet, this character continues to defy the primitive human nature. The snake’s symbol and the eternal temptation offered by the bestial side of the self are also present here, and they work hand in hand with the new Alcyoneus’ image. The video goes fast through different moments in the history, including the perception of art and human nature, and it employs a heavy, almost funeral type of visual tone. This time I have also decided to base all my work on a pretty sharp type of image, as sharp as the blade of the daggers. Regarding imagery, there is darkness, heaviness, hate and anger, which accede to death, primordial co-habitation and they are all enshroud with an almost political type of solemnity. The revolutionary spirit emerges through the mere existence of this video per se. At some points, short scenes depicting nature come as an invitation to a philosophic reflection on the monumental character of the art required by politics. This is how I felt this song, its lyrics and all the explanations provided by Tomas for this particular tune.”

New Album “Pacifisticuffs” Announced By Diablo Swing Orchestra

Swedish avant-metal act Diablo Swing Orchestra has confirmed details of the upcoming new album titled “Pacifisticuffs.” The 13-track album will be released on December 8th via Candlelight/Spinefarm.

The eight-headed beast behind “Pacifisticuffs” is notoriously hard to pigeonhole; although comfortable nestled in the rock and metal worlds, they incorporate elements of jazz, prog and even classical music. With tongues firmly in cheek, they take a sideways look at the world we live in and sprinkle their musical output with a healthy dose of theatrical sparkle.

Since the release of the last album “Pandora’s Piñata” in 2012, lead vocalist Annlouice Lögdlund departed the band and has been replaced by Kristin Evegård. Evegård has wasted no time integrating into the band, and along with an all-round more democratic process, has added her lyrical and composition skills into the mix for “Pacifisticuffs.”

The core style and approach of the band remains recognizable, but the band has turned its sights outwards rather than inwards. Less introspective than previous releases, “Pacifisticuffs” offers an expression of life’s highs and lows and everything in between, all delivered with that recognizable Diablo Swing Orchestra touch of Technicolor.

The track list and cover art are as follows:

1. Knucklehugs (Arm Yourself With Love)
2. The Age of Vulture Culture
3. Superhero Jagganath
4.Vision of the Purblind
5. Lady Clandestine Chainbreaker
6. Jigsaw Hustle
7. Pulse of the Incipient
8. Ode to the Innocent
9. Interruption
10. Cul-De-Sac Semantics
11. Karma Bonfire
12. Climbing the Eyeball
13. Porch of Perception

Bell Witch Announces Single-Song Album “Mirror Reaper”

Seattle doom metal duo Bell Witch will release third full-length album “Mirror Reaper” worldwide on October 20th via Profound Lore Records. With “Mirror Reaper,” Bell Witch has created an enormous work – one continuous, eighty-three-minute piece unfolding as a single track.

Engineered and mixed by veteran producer Billy Anderson (Swans, Sleep, Neurosis), the duo of Dylan Desmond (bass, vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums, vocals, organ) have pushed the band’s sound further beyond 2015 LP, “Four Phantoms.” The artwork for Mirror Reaper was painted by Mariusz Lewandowski.

Bell Witch comments: “The title ‘Mirror Reaper’ is indicative of the Hermetic axiom ‘As Above, So Below,’ written with two sides to form one whole. The song is both its own and its reflection, as an opposite is whole only with its contrary. Our focus as a band has always been the perception of ghosts and the implied archetype of the dichotomy of life/death therein. ‘Mirror Reaper’ is a continuation of that concept.

“During the writing process we were devastated by the loss of our dear friend and former drummer, Adrian Guerra. In love and respect to his memory, we reserved an important yet brief section in the song for him that features unused vocal tracks from our last album. This specific movement serves as a conceptual turn in the piece, or point of reflection. We believe he would be proud of it as well. ‘Mirror Reaper’ was the first collaborative writing project with the new lineup, and Adrian’s death during it brought extra emotional weight. We sought to match the complexity and weight of these events within the composition of the piece.”
