Mike Portnoy Confirms Sons Of Apollo Working On Second Album

Mike Portnoy, formerly of Dream Theater and more recently a member of such bands as The Winery Dogs, Metal Allegiance and The Neal Morse Band among others, has announced via a post on Facebook that Sons Of Apollo, the progressive metal supergroup featuring Portnoy, Billy Sheehan of Mr. Big, former Dream Theater keyboardist Derek Sherinian, vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (Trans Siberian Orchestra/ex Journey) and ex Guns N Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, has been working on a new album. The post reads as follows:

“What an intense writing session we’ve had for Sons Of Apollo 2 over the last week!! It was a whirlwind of creativity and we managed to pull it all together and knock it out of the park (IMHO)…and wasting no time, I’m flying to LA today to begin recording my drum tracks!
We will then spend the rest of the year crafting the album and are shooting to have it out at the end of the year or beginning of 2020…”But worry not, there’s the Live Plovdiv Release coming early this summer to tide you over until then!”

Video Clip For New Song “Piss Wreck” Posted By King Parrot

This Friday, Australian grind practitioners King Parrot will unleash the maniacal fruit of their “Ugly Produce” full-length. Slated for release on September 22nd in North America via Housecore Records, in Europe via Agonia Records and in Australia via EVP Recordings, “Ugly Produce” is a ten-track feast of distinctively punishing and powerful anthems. Recorded at the infamous Goatsound Studios in Melbourne, Australia and produced by Blood Duster’s Jason Fuller, this is no walk in the park on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Ugly Produce is a twisted, cantankerous ride through an outback graveyard, high on PCP, wreaking of animal feculence.

In advance of this week’s release, the band has unsheathed a hilarious new video clip for “Piss Wreck” viewable in the player at the bottom.

“Ugly Produce” will see release on CD, digital, and vinyl formats. Pre-orders are currently available at the official King Parrot website over here. Digital preorders – which come with an instant download of “Ten Pounds Of Shit In A Five Pound Bag” – are available via Apple Music and iTunes.

“Ugly Produce” fuses the raw fury of King Parrot’s critically-lauded debut album “Bite Your Head Off” and mashes it with the twisted sophistication of the Aria-nominated follow-up “Dead Set.” A repugnant harvest of gnarled and nasty grind, death metal, thrash, and punk rock, the band’s unique, over-the-top sound is ever prevalent and honed further on “Ugly Produce” while remaining true to the fundamental ideals the band started with: angst, aggression, absurdity, and antics.

Gus G. Announces “Operation Domination” Tour Dates With Angel Vivaldi

Greek guitar phenomenon Gus G. will embark on the “Operation Domination” co-headliner U.S. tour with renowned shredder Angel Vivaldi. A full breakdown of dates and venues is available below.

Gus G. states: “I’m very excited to return to the U.S. this fall to finally hit more markets and play for the fans that were left out on my recent Spring mini-tour. Teaming up with a talented player like Angel Vivaldi seemed like a great opportunity.

“We’re both stoked to bring the ‘Operation Domination’ tour to the American audiences and we will be performing our own individual sets, but also collaborating on stage together as well. We will have a great band with us that features James Paul Luna (Holy Grail) on vocals, Alex Bent (ex-Battlecross, Testament) on drums and Jake Skylyr on bass.

“The set list will once again be a mixed bag including songs from my solo works, Firewind, Ozzy material but some surprises as well. These shows are not to be missed. See you soon.”

Vivaldi further adds: “For me this tour perfectly summarizes the evolution of modern guitar playing. To be able to share a stage with a force such as Gus is both inspiring and refreshing. I cannot wait to see the looks on people’s faces when they see what we have planned! I’m also really excited to dip into music from all my releases including the upcoming re-recordings from The Speed of Dark: Revisited, coming out this year.

“After the recent tragic events in Orlando, I’m going above and beyond to make this tour a much needed celebration of love, inspiration and positive energy. I have some exciting tricks up my sleeve that I’m anxious to unleash on this run. It’s going to be a party!”

Surgikill Posts New Song “Relentless Revenge”

A savagely ruthless song from Surgikill is now online – experience a pack of raving lunatics foaming at the mouth and drooling pure blood & guts death metal below. The band also comments:

“‘Relentless Revenge’ is the name of the song, and it’s our bloody-heartfelt homage to Ruggero Deodato’s immortal classic of pure cinematic brutality and violence, ‘La casa sperduta nel parco,’ aka ‘House on the Edge of the Park!’ Enjoy the madness, and know that this is ONLY the beginning…”

CHESTER BENNINGTON: STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Considered Changing Its Name

According to The Pulse Of Radio, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS vocalist Chester Bennington revealed in a new interview with A-Sides that the band considered changing its name after it dismissed original singer Scott Weiland and began working with Bennington in early 2013. Bennington explained (see video below): “We did talk about maybe changing the name of the band, and just doing something new. Honestly, my thing was like, why give up what you guys have worked so hard on? This is your legacy, you don’t have to give it up just because one person didn’t do things the way that everybody wanted them to go, didn’t do things everybody planned. We should be able to move forward.”

Bennington continued, “I mean, where is the music coming from in the first place? There’s no question when you hear the new music that it’s STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. Why? Because it’s coming from the guys who write the music. It’s coming from the source. So, when the source is there, then it’s still pure.”

Bassist Robert DeLeo told The Pulse Of Radio not long ago that keeping STP going after changing frontmen was never in question. “From the beginning, it wasn’t ‘Hey, let’s together and write a song’ or ‘Hey, let’s get together and do this show.’ It was ‘Hey, let’s get together and continue STONE TEMPLE PILOTS with a lot of integrity,'” he said. “That’s really what the intent was. It’s something that Eric [Kretz, drummer] and Dean [DeLeo, guitar] and myself have worked at for a long time, and we’ve been trying to hold up the whole integrity of this band for a long time.”

STP dismissed Weiland in February 2013, claiming that his erratic behavior held back the band’s career. The two parties exchanged lawsuits which have since been settled.

STP recruited Bennington that spring and have so far cut one EP, “High Rise”, with the LINKIN PARK singer. A new album is due out later this year.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS‘ next round of tour dates will begin on September 15 in Cleveland.
