Paradise Lost To Re-Release “Host” In March

British gothic metal pioneers Paradise Lost has announced that their 1999 album, “Host” will be remastered and re-released through Nuclear Blast Records on March 16th. The album will be available as digipack and in three different vinyl colours (black, clear and mint) for the first time ever.

Speaking about the album, vocalist Nick Holmes stated: “With the ‘Host’ album we wanted to take the ‘One Second’ concept further and make a very dark album with even more subtlety. It was a bold leap from all our previous albums, a leap too far some would say, but for me, the new remastered version really shows it’s still one of the bands strongest albums in terms of song writing, atmosphere and sheer misery.”

Twilight’s Embrace Set To Release New Death Doom Opus ‘Penance’

Nottingham, UK doom trio Twilight’s Embrace reveal details for their new record, and follow up to 2014’s acclaimed debut By Darkness Undone. Entitled Penance, the self-produced EP is set for release 23rd February and spans 4 death doom soundscapes.

“After a couple of years that saw some members leaving and little in the way of live performances, we decided an EP was a good way to ease back into things and to let people know we’re still alive, comments band leader and guitarist Ben Sizer. “Musically, the new tracks deliberately continue the path of previous releases, attempting to take classic doom-death recipes and add other influences to taste.”

Tracklist:

1. Dying Earth
2. Curtain Call
3. Penance
4. It’s Too Late (Paradise Lost Cover)

New MCD/Single “Imperilled” Released By The Maledict

Hailing from Australia, the death/doom collective The Maledict has released the brand new three-song single/MCD “Imperilled” last week, on October 5th. This new single features one new song, one reworked track from the band’s 2013 demo, and one cover. Check out “Imperilled” in the player below.

The title track heads up the package, bringing 8 minutes of doom. The new material is as laden with melancholy as ever, but now hints at things to come – with a heavy injection of atmosphere and melody to accentuate against the filthy canvas of death/doom metal.

“Waltz Eternal,” the leading cut from the band’s 2013 demo “Salvation in Yielding” has been reworked from the ground-up, bringing one of the band’s favorite live tracks into the present with far superior production.

And finally, the release culminates with a tribute to one of the biggest musical inspirations behind The Maledict’s sound as they cover the title track from Paradise Lost’s seminal 1991 classic “Gothic”, arguably the song that invented death/doom as we know it.

“Imperilled” is available for free on Bandcamp, as well as being released on most streaming digital music services. Check out the MCD in full here:

Second Album “From Sand – Part II” Coming From The Element

California’s The Element are preparing the long awaited second album “From Sand – Part II” and have employed the services of famed producer Jens Bogren to handle production duties.

Back In 2015, The Element started working on the new release and this time with Borgren at the helm, the band seeks to accelerate its career. Borgren worked with bands such as Arch Enemy, Symphony X, Angra, Pain of Salvation, Katatonia, Dragonforce, Paradise Lost, James Labrie and Devin Townshend. In charge of mastering is Tony Lindgren, both from Fascination Street Studios.

“From Sand – Part II” shows the band’s natural evolution with heavier, more straightforward, and more aggressive songs, while keeping their main features, such as sophisticated instrumental segments and orchestrations.

The album’s first single will be the song “Dusk,” which will also be made into a music video, once again directed by Tommy Merry. Soon the release dates for the single and album will be announced.

Stay tuned for more information.

Grave Pleasures Posts “Infatuation Overkill” Video

Finnish apocalyptic post-punk quintet Grave Pleasures is ready to unveil the first new offering of music from upcoming sophomore release, “Motherblood.” Check out a music video for debut single, “Infatuation Overkill,” in the player below.

“This song draws first blood, where desire reaches fever pitch,” divulges vocalist Mat McNerney, “‘Infatuation Overkill’ is a picture of the current zeitgeist in free-fall. Our voyeurism, our all consuming ego, our absolute fixation with our own image and our descent into a commonly accepted form of mass schizophrenia. Obsession and omnipresent violent lust have become the norm as mania begins to seep into our intrinsic make-up. We attempt to portray the feeling of being pulled apart as the volcano erupts on our species and the dawn of man begins to draw to a close.”

Scheduled for release on September 29 via Century Media Records, “Motherblood” features ten hook-laden tracks as well as guest vocals from David Tibet of Current 93. “Motherblood” was recorded at Orgone Studios in the U.K. with Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Ulver, Paradise Lost) which was situated on the site of an old WW2 coding bunker.

1. Infatuation Overkill
2. Doomsday Rainbows
3. Be My Hiroshima
4. Joy Through Death
5. Mind Intruder
6. Laughing Abyss
7. Falling For An Atom Bomb
8. Atomic Christ
9. Deadenders
10. Haunted Afterlife

Grave Pleasures Signs Deal With Century Media

Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of the apocalyptic post-punk band Grave Pleasures. The group just finished recording second studio album, “Motherblood,” at Orgone Studios in the UK (Ghost, Paradise Lost, Ulver).

This upcoming album has been scheduled to a worldwide release for late September/early October 2017 via Century Media Records worldwide. Risen from the ashes of Beastmilk, Grave Pleasures features the writing talents of Mat McNerney (Hexvessel, Beastmilk, Code, DHG) and Juho Vanhanen (Oranssi Pazuzu, Atomikylä). “Motherblood” features fresh artwork by Finnish artist Tekla Vály.

Mat McNerney comments on the record deal signing: “Jens came out to see our show in Sweden at the end of last year and enjoyed it so much he made it clear that he wanted to work with us. For me that’s the greatest way to work with a label, to hang out with the people involved, to be friends and to enjoy good music together. That way it’s much more than a business relationship to us. It becomes part of the experience of why we do this. It’s very comforting to know that we will have the best, most hard-working and friendliest team working on our record. We’re proud to be a part of their family with Grave Pleasures.”

Century Media’s A&R Jens Prueter says: “It’s a pleasure to welcome Grave Pleasures on Century Media. There are not too many artists who have enough talent and visions for being involved in very different bands such as Hexvessel, Oranssi Pazuzu and Grave Pleasures. And it’s always great to work with a group of friends and like-minded spirits. Thanks to the entire band and their manager Andy Farrow!”

Mat McNerney further comments on the albums concept and music: “Like the great sacrament of ancient times that was the blood sacrifice of the mother, we too have laid down our most holy flesh at your feet. This record, which is a bold re-definition of death-rock and our totemic challenge to our pretenders, shall be our most grand and sordid testament. If you have never danced with the skeletons, then this album is your gateway drug to all the nihilistic pleasures of the grave. Apocalyptic post-punk never sounded so desperately bleak and wild yet never grinned so maniacally and writhed so fervently with tongues that whip the tombs. The Kali figure of our cover is the eternal icon of nuclear fear. She presides over the religion of an apocalyptic future. A desolate future we proudly celebrate with caustic music of the most furious punk. Come imbibe and wash your mind in our Motherblood. We’re dancing in the lion’s mouth. The elevator only goes down.”
