Antropomorphia Reveals New Album “Merciless Savagery” Details

On April 5th, AntropomorphiA will release their new album, “Merciless Savagery,” via Metal Blade Records. To hear the new title track, please visit: https://metalblade.com/antropomorphia/ – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–digipak-CD
–180g black vinyl (EU exclusive)
–grey marbled vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–dead gold marbled vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–black/white splatter vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 120 copies)
–brown marbled vinyl (US exclusive – limited to 100 copies)

In the year marking the 10th anniversary of their reunion, AntropomorphiA has delivered an extreme metal opus that more than maintains the high standards upheld over the course of their storied career. Further building on the monstrous sounds of 2017’s “Sermon Ov Wrath,” “Merciless Savagery” lives up to its name, attacking with unrepentant ferocity and holding nothing back. Vocalist/guitarist Ferry Damen comments: “‘Sermon Ov Wrath’ was our most raw and honest statement and an album where we transcended certain genre limitations, capturing the essence of AntropomorphiA, and I would say the new record’s atmosphere is darker, heavier and more punishing, but still has hooky riffs and grooves. I think it’s the logical step forward. It’s a different chapter, even more diverse while being very cohesive, but you can immediately hear it’s AntropomorphiA.”

Prior to “Sermon Ov Wrath,” Damen never felt that AntropomorphiA’s music called for female vocals, but this time around, he had the specific intention to bring in someone to add this extra dimension: the track “Luciferian Tempest” features a guest appearance from Farida Lemouchi (The Devil’s Blood, Molasses), bringing a different feel to the song. “I think our fans know what to expect from us, they know our sound and know that we are not that generic extreme metal band,” Damen explains. “We paint with a dark pallet, but we paint with lots of shades of darkness.”

Merciless Savagery track-listing

2. Requiem Diabolica
3. Womb ov Thorns
4. Cathedral ov Tombs
5. Apocalyptic Scourge
6. Wailing Chorus ov the Damned

Allegaeon reveals details for new album, ‘Apoptosis’

– January 31st, 2019 –

Launches video for new single, “Stellar Tidal Disruption”

On April 19th, Allegaeon will release their new album, Apoptosis, via Metal Blade Records. A near-perfect symbiosis of technical, progressive, and melodic death metal, Apoptosis is a record that is as crushingly heavy as it is inventive, lithe and intelligent, and marks a significant leap forward in the band’s songwriting. To watch the video for the first single, “Stellar Tidal Disruption” (directed by Robert Graves // ashadowbeyond.com), please visit: metalblade.com/allegaeon – where the album can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–jewelcase-CD
–opaque grey vinyl (US retail exclusive – limited to 500 copies)
–black / white A/B side vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 250 copies)
–oxblood / milky clear A/B side vinyl (US webstore exclusive – limited to 250 copies)
–clear w/ black smoke vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–silver w/ oxblood splatter vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 200 copies)
–transparent purple w/ white and black splatter vinyl (EU exclusive – limited to 100 copies)

Tracked at Flatline Audio in Denver with long-serving producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage), Apoptosis is Allegaeon‘s fifth full-length, and the first to feature bassist Brandon Michael. “Musically, Brandon brings a huge new dimension,” vocalist Riley McShane enthuses. “He has this wide breadth of music knowledge and stylistic proficiency that he draws from with excellent taste, and this makes a lot of the songs on ‘Apoptosis‘ come to life.” The record also features a guest appearance by classical guitarist Christina Sandsengen, who duets with guitarist Greg Burgess on “Colors of the Currents”. “On this record, I was more open to new ideas that we might not have used in past,” states guitarist Michael Stancel. “Rather than deleting something because ‘it’s not Allegaeon-y enough’, I would take a step back and see if that idea fit the song and decide if it was worth keeping. With that mentality came some of my favorite songs, because I was less worried about if it fit into our old sound.” This statement is borne out across the whole album, which while very much embodying the core Allegaeon sound that has drawn fans in over the course of their impressive career, it pushes into new territory, and does so with unerring confidence. “Thematically, this record is all about contrast, and the music reflects that perfectly,” says McShane. “The vocals are heavier than ever, but there are also more clean sections. The drums are faster than ever but also more dynamic, and the guitar playing is lower and slower than on most previous albums, but also provides long, melodic and beautiful sections throughout.”

Apoptosis track-listing
1. Parthenogenesis
2. Interphase // Meiosis
3. Extremophiles (B)
4. The Secular Age
5. Exothermic Chemical Combustion
6. Extremophiles (A)
7. Metaphobia
8. Tsunami and Submergence
9. Colors of the Currents
10. Stellar Tidal Disruption
11. Apoptosis

Dream Theater Singer James LaBrie Guests On Last Union Single “President Evil”; Video Posted Online

Italian progressive metal band, Last Union, featuring Mike LePond (Symphony X) on bass, Uli Kusch (ex-Helloween, ex-Masterplan) on drums, and as guest James LaBrie (Dream Theater) on vocals, have released a new music video and single for “President Evil”. The track is taken from their debut album, “Twelve,” out on December 21st via ROAR! Rock Of Angels Records. Watch the clip below.

The album was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren, best known for his work with Arch Enemy, Symphony X, Devin Townsend, Angra, and Opeth, to name a few. The album artwork was created by Thomas Ewerhard (Avantasia, Rage, Threshold).

The quiet city of Tolentino in the Marche region of Central Italy not only boasts a rich historical background, it is also the place progressive metal band Last Union calls home. Founded by vocalist Elisa Scarpeccio, guitarist Cristiano Tiberi and keyboardist Claudio Feliziani in 2007, the band – originally known as Blazing Ice – embarked on their journey in the pursuit of sharing their thoughts and feelings about life, and ultimately their art, with the world. With the assistance of professional session bassists and drummers, the trio established themselves on the Italian scene with a string of shows that helped them evolve and refine their craft. Over the course of 20 shows, Last Union presented songs that would eventually make the final cut for their debut album.

Strong and positive reactions to their music spurred Scarpeccio and Tiberi on to take the first of many bold steps. The first was to invite drummer Uli Kusch to join the fold, who expressed interest in joining the band as a full member rather than just a touring drummer after hearing the music. A similar scenario played out with Symphony X bassist Mike LePond and Last Union was officially born. The icing on the cake, however, was getting Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie to sing on three tracks.

Tracklisting:

1. Most Beautiful Day
2. President Evil (Feat. James LaBrie)
3. Hardest Way
4. Purple Angels
5. The Best Of Magic
6. Taken (Feat. James LaBrie) – Radio Edit
7. 18 Euphoria
8. A Place In Heaven (Feat. James LaBrie)
9. Ghostwriter
10. Limousine
11. Back In The Shadow
12. Taken (Feat. James LaBrie)
13. President Evil (Feat. James LaBrie) – Video Version

Byzantine launches new video for “The Cicada Tree”

– September 19th, 2018 –

After releasing their latest album, The Cicada Tree, last year to critical acclaim, Byzantine is now launching a new video for the record’s title track! Directed by Holly Mollohan / Screaming Butterfly Entertainment, the clip for “The Cicada Tree” can be viewed at: youtube.com/watch?v=EbWXmBWlPqg

Vocalist/Guitarist Chris “OJ” Ojeda comments:
“Over the course of our last few albums, we have really been trying to stretch our songwriting abilities and push past any limitations set upon ourselves. The title track, ‘The Cicada Tree’, is a great representation of our band at this point in our discography. We try to always write from the heart and with purpose. This song has one of the deeper meanings on our last album, symbolizing our 17 years as a band and our slow but steady evolution as an underground artist.”

To state that The Cicada Tree is “classic Byzantine” in no way implies that this is an album solely rooted in the band’s past. Certainly, all of the hallmarks that have made their sound so compelling for close to two decades are present and correct: muscular yet lithe riffs and fluid leads play against gripping, dynamic and at times unpredictable rhythms, while rich melodies and lyrics that are both involved and intelligent wind their way through every track. But, once more, the groove metal unit has continued their steady evolution – the interplay between their members organic and natural, imbuing the record’s sixty-two-minute running time with a freshness and urgency. Founding member Chris “OJ” Ojeda states, “The first few albums, you’re trying to find your sound, and sometimes you tend to not see the forest for the trees. Now, on album number six, it seems a calmness took hold during the songwriting process, possibly from just having more confidence in our sound. At this point, our fans expect us to experiment and push our boundaries, which is an extremely liberating feeling.”

Within The Ruins Premiere Two New Tracks “World Undone” & “Resurgence”

Within The Ruins debut two new tracks which mark their first official releases with their new singer Steve Tinnon. Those new singles include “World Undone” “Resurgence”. Guitarist Joe Cocchi explains:

“These songs were both written over the course of a big transition period for this band. They have a unique vibe. Nonetheless, we’re more than thrilled to have Steve step up and take over on vocals.

It couldn’t be a better fit for us. We’ve known Steve for years through touring and it feels right to have his voice, personality, and creativity as a part of our bands future now.”

You can stream the two songs below:

Adds Tinnon who replaced Tim Georgen earlier this year:

“I wrote these songs as a pair. I wanted them to go together. ‘World Undone‘ is about feeling like you’ve lost everything and your world has come crumbling down. You’ve been mentally and physically defeated, and no one around you even cares. Everyone goes through dark times where they just feel lost and don’t know what to do. ‘Resurgence‘ is the follow up to that scenario. It’s about making your way out of those difficult situations and coming out on the other side as a stronger person than before. Life can be a constant struggle, and I think that’s very relatable to a lot of people. But I want these songs to serve as a reminder that no matter how bad things seem, you need to keep pushing and keep fighting. Things can get better. Don’t give up.”

Nightmarer (The Ocean, Ex-War From A Harlots Mouth) Premiere “Death/Swansong”

Nightmarer (The Ocean, ex-War From A Harlots Mouth, etc.) debut “Death/Swansong” from their new effort, “Cacophony Of Terror“, which will be out on March 23rd via Season Of Mist.

Says guitarist Simon Hawemann of the track:

“Our track ‘Death‘ marks the inevitable end of ‘Cacophony of Terror‘ – it is the final stage of a battle that was never meant to be won. My inspiration for this song was all too real: I had to witness a person close to me decease over the course of several days. The riffs and sounds in ‘Death‘ reflect the heavy breathing, the tortured moans, and the spasms of a dying human being – sights and sounds that are burned into my memory forever.

This experience served as a morbidly twisted foundation to give death itself an appropriate soundtrack. Once it’s all over, ‘Death‘ seamlessly makes the transitions into ‘Swansong‘, which offers nothing else than just the relief of not having to fight any longer. One could not exist without the other, so we’re premiering both tracks merged into one today.

We are thrilled to have joined forces with Alan Dubin (KHANATE/GNAW), who lent his terrifying voice to ‘Death‘. His piercing screams serve as the perfect personification of the demon that lurks in the plagued mind of the album’s protagonist. Without further ado, embrace death!”

Insect Ark To Release Marrow Hymns Via Profound Lore This February; New Track Streaming

Combining elements of horror-?lm soundtracks, psychedelic doom, and atmospheric noise, New York City/Portland-based instrumental duo Insect Ark presents their newest record, Marrow Hymns, to be released on Profound Lore Records, February 23rd, 2018.

Check out now “In The Nest” from it below.

Marrow Hymns was recorded and mixed with engineer Ethan Donaldson at Mozart Street Studios in Brooklyn, New York over the course of eighteen months. With the two halves of INSECT ARK residing on opposite coasts, the album was largely skeletal in form upon commencement of recording. Overdubs and further writing/arrangements were done after Spungin’s return to Portland in the isolation of Schechter’s home studio. The sense of distance and vast emptiness remained intact in the songs, built out over many long nights. Marrow Hymns’ song themes of displacement, loss, and isolation are personal journals of that time period, as both members found themselves simultaneously experiencing existential crises. However, the album also tells a story of strength and determination, made from the marrow of these two women, a song for all things that struggle to survive.

“Marrow Hymns” track listing:

1. Thelema
2. Arp 9
3. In the Nest
4. Skin Walker
5. Slow Ray
6. Sea Harps
7. Tarnish
8. Windless
9. Daath

New Album “The Magickal Presence of Occult Forces” Streaming In Full From Necromante

Today, Brazilian black metal cult Necromante streams the entirety of the highly anticipated debut album “The Magickal Presence of Occult Forces” over at Necromance at this location, or just simply check it out in the player at the bottom. The band drops the album internationally today (October 6th) via Iron Bonehead Productions.

Formed in 2007, Necromante has patiently stirred its cauldron of sound over the course of a couple demos, a mini-album, and a live album. Hailing from Brazil, within that cauldron, of course, can be found ancient ingredients like Sarcofago, Vulcano, Sextrash, Mystifier, and Impurity, but the power-trio finesse forth a sound that’s less focused on tempting the corners of chaos as it is conjuring an arcane, otherworldly aura – in that sense, not dissimilar to Impurity’s classic “Into the Ritual Chamber.” However, on evidence of :The Magickal Presence of Occult Forces,” Necromante is truly a unique entity unto itself, and masterfully so.

Witness “The Magickal Presence of Occult Forces” and hail the new gods of Necromante right here:

Execration launches new single, “Hammers of Vulcan”, online

–white/black-marbled vinyl (limited to 120 copies – USA exclusive)
–red transparent vinyl (limited to 100 copies – Hells Headbangers exclusive)
* plus digital options are also available!

“Coming off of two double 12″ vinyl albums, the first clear goal for writing ‘Return To The Void‘ was to deliver the same kind of dynamic and shifting song-writing in a more condensed to-the-point package”, comments Execration. Stripping songs down to their essential core has been a driving force while writing, and it shows – there is not a wasted moment on the album. Ticking in at 42 minutes – a perfect fit for the vinyl format – the album takes the listener through a whirlwind of thrash, death, black, and even heavy metal, fast and slow parts, and the trademark Execration shifts in mood, tempo, and atmosphere.

“As with the previous two albums, we wanted to capture the feel of a live performance, so all the basic tracks (drums, guitars, bass) were recorded live in our rehearsal studio in Oslo over the course of a weekend. Vocals, synths, and various effects where recorded the following weeks with assistance from Andreas Tylden (One Tail, One Head / Altaar). The album was then mixed and mastered by Tom Kvalsvoll of Kvalsonic Labs.”

Thematically, the album takes off into outer space, the world of dreams, and philosophic musings on time and space. The album’s seven songs and two instrumental tracks are permeated with the mysteries of the universe, both in lyrical content and concept, and in the music itself. This theme is further brought to life by the magnificent art of Zbigniew M. Bielak that adorns the front cover.

Return To The Void track-listing:
1. Eternal Recurrence
2. Hammers of Vulcan
3. Nekrocosm
4. Cephalic Transmissions
5. Blood Moon Eclipse
6. Unicursal Horrorscope
