Ozzy Osbourne To Embark On “Farewell” Tour, Confirmed For European Festivals

Heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne will be headlining festivals across Europe next year in what is, according to the organisers of Graspop Metal Meeting, his “farewell” world tour. Although this is being touted as his final world tour, Osbourne says he may still perform shows “here and there” and it is expected that he will still be releasing another album. An official statement or list of tour dates has yet to be announced by Osbourne’s camp, but he has been confirmed to headline the Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium, Denmark’s, Copenhell event and both the British and Spanish editions of the Download festival.

Download Festival’s promoter, Andy Copping said: “We’re unbelievably excited to have Ozzy as one of the headliners next year. Already hailing from the Midlands, Ozzy Osbourne is no stranger to Download, and after Black Sabbath closed the festival in 2016, how could I not ask The Prince of Darkness to come back all on his own? The Download family are without a shadow of a doubt, in for a treat.”

Down Frontman Phil Anselmo Intends To Cancel 2016 European Festival Shows

The organisers of Hellfest in France have announced that Down, the band led by former Pantera frontman, Phil Anselmo, have pulled out of this year’s edition of the festival and that Puscifer will take their place. They also claim that the band has scrapped plans to tour Europe altogether, following the well publicised drunken remarks from Anselmo at Dimebash this year. A letter sent to the organisers from the vocalist, which was published by the festival’s admins earlier, reads as follows:

“My awful mistake has taken a toll on my reputation, and justly so. However, I must point out, you damned-well know me better than this drunken incident could ever describe. Hellfest is my heart.

“And my embarrassment is tremendous, because I only have love for people all over this skirmishing earth. So my brother, it fucking rips my heart into further pieces to let you know, I don’t think I should do any Euro festivals this year.

“So please I beg you, give me this time to get my brain clear, and to come back (if you will have me back) next year my brother, I implore you.”

Carpathian Forest Cancels Marlyand Death Fest 2013 Appearance

Carpathian Forest has been forced to cancel the band’s appearance at the 2013 Maryland Death Fest due to problems obtaining a visa. The band’s publicist comments:

“Carpathian Forest front man Nattefrost is one more in the long line of Scandinavian black metal musicians who have been unable to gain entry into the United States due to the labyrinthine and draconian immigration laws that have so often denied U.S. fans the opportunity to see their favorite European bands.

“Despite this setback, Carpathian Forest, whose remaining four members had been granted visas, was still aiming to appear at the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore on the 26th May as scheduled, but as a four-piece, with guitarist BloodPervertor taking on vocals. Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, the embassy was not able to return drummer Kobro’s passport in time for the band to leave, and Carpathian Forest has therefore been forced to pull out of the festival completely. However, three members – guitarists Tchort and BloodPervertor and bassist Vrangsinn will attend and will be available to talk to fans.

“It is only under very exceptional circumstances that Carpathian Forest plays without Nattefrost, the only other occasion having been when BloodPervertor stepped in to cover vocals on a handful of dates during the No Mercy Tour in 2004 when Nattefrost broke his collar bone.”

Commenting on the original decision to go ahead despite the absence of the band’s iconic front man and then still being forced to cancel, guitarist Tchort had this to say: “When we decided to make the trip without Nattefrost, we knew that many fans would be disappointed, but at the same time we didn’t want to let down the organisers who have been so supportive throughout the whole visa process, and have done everything they could possibly to do to try and make it happen.

“We were also very aware that Carpathian Forest has many fans in the United States who have waited a long, long time to see the band live, and, given the circumstances, there is always the possibility that Nattefrost may never be granted a visa, so this might have been the only opportunity our US fans will have to see us on stage, albeit minus one member. To then have to pull out completely because of whatever delays occurred even though Kobro’s visa was granted, was a big disappointment for everyone.”

Sonisphere Knebworth 2012 Is Cancelled

The organisers of the British leg of the Sonisphere festival has announced that they have had to cancel this years event, which was set to feature headline performances from KISS, Faith No More and Queen + Adam Lambert, amongst others. The statement from the organisers reads as follows:

“It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.

“Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect.

“We want to express our deepest regrets to the artists and to thank all the staff, suppliers and contractors who worked so hard with us to try and pull off what has proven to be an impossible task and we know how much they share in our disappointment. We also want to send a huge thanks to the Sonisphere fans who stuck by us and we are so sorry that we can’t fulfil what we set out to do.

“Ticket holders will automatically receive a full refund direct from their ticket agents.

“Team Sonisphere.”
