Ghoul Announces 10″ EP “Hang Ten”

In recognition of that holiest of holy days, Record Store Day, the masked mutants in Ghoul are releasing “Hang Ten,” a limited edition six-song (mostly) instrumental 10″ EP.

Featuring guest vocals from Tony Foresta (Municipal Waste, Iron Reagan) as Henchman #1 and R.A. MacLean (ex-Deadbolt) as Kreeg, alongside Digestor, Cremator, Fermentor, Dissector and The Moron Cavern-Shackled Choir, “Hang Ten” was recorded by Salvador Raya at Earhammer Studios in Oakland (birthing home of Splatterhash, Splatterthrash and Transmission Zero), mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering, and sports cover art by Sean Aaberg of Pork Magazine.

Noted Cambridge University musical anthropologist Dr. Mantle Bannister PhD had this to say about this odd assortment of tenebrous tunes: “Why, it’s quite remarkable. I’ve never heard the like. Is it surf? Not quite. Is it metal? Maybe. Is it jazz? No, that’s a stupid question, unfit for a real life noted musical anthropologist such as myself. It’s from Creepsylvania, you say? Ghastly country. Absolutely crawling with gypsies. Say, old chap, who let you in to my office?”

The album is due out April 19th, and the track listing is as follows:

1. The Midnight Ride of the Cannibals MC
2. Kreeg
3. Sidehackers
4. Hang Ten
5. Blood on the Street
6. It Was a Very Good Year

Twitching Tongues Streaming “World War V” Track Online

As Twitching Tongues’ gritty sophomore LP “In Love There Is No Law” nears release, another single from the album has been leaked via Decibel. Listen to the “World War V” track below. The following press release was also issued about the album:

“In Love There Is No Law was recorded, produced and mixed by guitarist Taylor Young at The Pit, then mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, and along with the rest of the album, the third track “World War V” boasts the instantly recognizable style of melding brooding melody with monolithic riffs in the depressed but enraged Twitching Tongues fashion. It also throws down some of the most prominently angst-fueled vocals and pit-driven NYHC-inspired chugging these mercenaries drop throughout the entire LP as multiple vocal styles layer and build with the churning emotional undertow.

“Upstate New York-based Closed Casket Activities is preparing for the disbursement of In Love There Is No Law on August 20th, and today makes pre-orders for all formats of the album available; check out the package options and more here.

“Shortly after returning stateside from their massive ongoing European tour alongside Harm’s Way, Twitching Tongues will embark on their recently announced On Tour There Is No Law, invading more than thirty cities across the US and Canada between September 13th and October 14th. Old Wounds Gearing Up For New U.S. Tour Dates

With over 70 shows booked so far in 2013, New Jersey trio Old Wounds continues its reign of terror this summer with another U.S. tour, this one focusing heavily on the western half of the country.

The centerpiece of the tour is a coveted slot on The Power of the Riff Festival in Los Angeles, alongside The Obsessed, Final Conflict, From Ashes Rise, and more. Other dates see Old Wounds play with bands such as Every Time I Die, Terror, and KEN Mode.

The tour coincides with the release of Old Wounds’ new split seven-inch with upstate New York’s Trenchfoot, out August 13th on Melotov Records. The following press release was also issued:

“Two of the East Coast’s most ferocious young hardcore bands, Old Wounds and Trenchfoot are like-minded outfits breathing new life into the crushing metallic vibes of their older brothers’ generation. While Old Wounds nod to the exhilarating charge of crushers like Buried Alive and Turmoil, Trenchfoot play an even darker game, in line with the depressive anthems of Tragedy or Cursed. Both bands’ material for the Melotov split was recorded by Kevin Bernsten at Developing Nations (Pulling Teeth, Full of Hell). Melotov releases the split August 13th on vinyl and as a digital download.”

A Wanted Awakening Recruits New Vocalist Caitlin Soucy

A Wanted Awakening’s vocalist Rick has issued the following announcement about parting ways with the band: “I am stepping down as the lead singer for A Wanted Awakening due to nodes on my vocal cords. I went to see a specialist about this issue and the doctor told me I need to take 3-4 months of vocal rest or risk permanent damage. This was a very difficult decision for me to make but in the end it was the right decision for the band and myself.

“I can honestly say that making the record Catharsis with four of my best friends is one of the greatest creative ventures I have ever been a part of. Thank you to all the fans who have supported the music and the band over the years.

“P.S. ‘When you’re in a rock and roll band with someone, you’re bonded for life.’ – Andy Bernard (The Office)”

The band has also announced the recruitment of new member Caitlin Soucy. She had this to say on the matter:

“I am overwhelmed with excitement, and extremely honored to now be part of a band I’ve been a huge fan of for several years now. I would like to say thank you to A Wanted Awakening for making me part of the band, and thank you to our friends, fans, and families for being so supportive! To Rick Hardy, dude I have some big shoes to fill. Your vocals are insane. Thank you for being so supportive of me joining the band, and I wish the best for you and Krissy. This is all crazy and awesome, and I cant wait to see where the future takes us. Durka Durka”

Video Interview With Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt Available

Roadrunner Records has posted a new video interview with Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt, which can be found below. The label commented on the clip:

“When Opeth came through New York on tour last week, naturally we pulled Mikael Åkerfeldt into the office for an interview. In the clip, he reveals his favorite Opeth songs to play live (old and new); his guitar practice regimen (or lack thereof); how the band tailors their set list to the bill they’ll be appearing on; who hears Opeth songs when they’re works in progress; and much more! We think you’ll agree it’s a pretty interesting conversation.”

In related news, Mikael has now reportedly left death metal super group Bloodbath. Opeth is also now on the road in support of new album “Heritage” (reviewed here).
