GWAR B-Q 2015 Set For Saturday August 15th 2015 in Richmond, VA

– March 26th, 2015 –

Come celebrate GWAR‘s 30th year of conquest on this fucking shit-hole planet at the most ear-bursting, bone-crushing, mouth-watering, belly-bursting, beer-guzzling, nut-bustingest party of this or any summer! The date is set for the 6th Annual GWAR B-Q: Saturday, August 15 at Hadad’s Lake (7900 Osborne Turnpike Richmond, VA 23231).

This amazing milestone in GWAR‘s torrid history – 30 fucking years! – demands more than just a one-day party. The Scumdogs have set forth a slew of satellite events to be held across Richmond over the three-day weekend of August 14th through 16th. GWAR fans will be busier and more fulfilled than during any time in their miserable existence!

Today, the official commercial for this year’s GWAR B-Q has been released. It can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14uWvkr0S-w

Watch it, worship your lords and masters GWAR, share it, then watch it again!

In other GWAR news, your Lords and Masters will be travelling back in time to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the film Empire Records, in which they had a starring role. GWAR will make an appearance during the anniversary Celebration in Brooklyn, NY April 8th – 10th. More details on GWAR‘s invasion of Brooklyn, NY can be seen HERE.

Finally March 23rd marked a sad anniversary in the GWAR family, as it was the one year anniversary of founding member Dave Brockie’s (Oderus Urungus) final journey to Valhalla. We celebrate him on this day as we celebrate and worship him every day. Hail Oderus!

Enjoy Intergalactic Junk Food At The GWARBar

With only 4 hours to spare, GWAR made good on Oderus Urungus’ promise to open the GWARbar in 2014 when your lords and masters of the universe smashed down the doors to 217 W. Clay St. Richmond, Virginia, in the historic Jackson Ward arts district, on New Year’s Eve 2014.

The ensuing party has yet to die down as GWAR fans, foodies and even neighborhood families revel in this new addition to the Virginia restaurant scene.

The GWARbar makes real the longtime fantasy of GWAR to open a restaurant and bar worthy of their name. The project was spurred by Jonathan Staples of James River Distillery and departed lead singer, Dave Brockie.

Along with restaurant partner Travis Croxton of Rappahannock, GWARbar’s mission is to bring “intergalactic junk food” to citizens of Richmond, Virginia and visiting GWAR fans from around the universe. The restaurant’s ambience balances beauty and brutality in the band’s trademark style, brought to life with the design of Barry Griffin at Griffin Customs.

Patrons of GWARbar will enjoy sipping signature drinks out of a specially designed GWAR Tiki mug. Founder and owner, Holden Westland of Southern California’s Tiki Farm has worked with GWAR to create a Tiki based on the band’s characteristic visual style.

Michael Derks, GWAR guitarist, and the driving force behind GWARbar reports, “The thing most people are surprised about is just how damn good the food is. Head chef Jeremy Dutra (drummer for Richmond’s own US Bastards) has made my vision of gourmet junk food rock! With items like our Scumdogs (house made sausages) and McDuckets (a duck, chicken, cheese and truffle nugget) we are turning your guilty pleasures into gastronomic masterpieces!”

GWAR’S Dave Brockie Reportedly Died Of Heroin Overdose

GWAR front man Dave Brockie – AKA Oderus Urungus – passed away at the age of 50 back in March.

Although a statement was released by the band’s management, there was no official cause of death announced.

Now WTVR.com is reporting Brockie passed away from a heroin overdose. The site states:

Brockie, was found unresponsive by his roommate in his North Richmond home on March 23. Responding police investigators found evidence of heroin use, but the cause of death wasn’t finalized until toxicology tests were completed.

Close friends told CBS-6 that they had been worried about his behavior and suspected his known penchant for marijuana smoking and partying had taken a bad turn.

Despite the death of Oderus, GWAR will still be performing at the annual GWAR-B-Q celebration this August. Details are available at this location.

Details Announced For GWAR-B-Q and Dave Brockie Memorial, First GWAR-B-Q Bands Unveiled

– May 1st, 2014 –

GWAR-B-Q Commercial Now Available For Streaming

Presented once again by Slave Pit Inc. and sponsored by Ring Dog Rescue (http://ringdogrescue.org), The 5th Annual GWAR-B-Q and Dave Brockie Memorial will certainly go down in history as one of the most significant events to happen in Richmond since the Civil War.

In a celebration of the life of David Murray Brockie, a special memorial event will be held FREE to the public from 4:00 PM -7:00 PM ONLY on Aug 15, 2014 at Hadad’s Lake (located at 7900 Osborne Turnpike Richmond,VA 23231). Fans, friends, family and bohabs will have the opportunity to pay their respects, as they drunkenly toast with a GWAR Beer in one hand, while wearing the commemorative Dave Brockie Fund vomit stained t-shirt as Oderus Urungus is set ablaze in a Viking Funeral Pyre on the lake.

In keeping with the tradition of past GWAR-B-Q‘s, Slave Pit Inc. has revealed the first bands confirmed for the event. The GWAR-B-Q will feature the heaviest, and most legendary line up of bands that the metal and punk scenes have to offer. Heavyweights such as: Hatebreed, hometown heroes Kepone, with former GWAR member Beefcake, the infamous Meatmen, featuring the Dutch Hercules, Tesco Vee and a very special appearance by the Original Gangsters, Body Count, where TV executives were bribed and beaten to get Ice T off the set of Law and Order SVU. For a full lineup of bands, visit http://www.gwarbq.com.

“The magnitude of heavy bone crushing acts at this year’s GWAR-B-Q is enough to … aahhh…crush bone”, said Bonesnapper, GWAR‘s body guard.

And if that’s not enough, there is plenty more filthy fun to overload your senses, leaving you bloated, basted, and completely broke. There will be more meat than ever, boatloads of “GWAR-B-Q” sauce to slather all over it, GWAR‘s new beer “Killsner” to wash it down your bottomless and gaping feed-hole, as well as an infinite number of port-o-john vomitorium kissing booths for full body evacuation. Just like last year, the affair will be held at the only venue capable of handling such a stupendous event, the legendary Hadad’s Lake…check out the venue at http://hadadslake.com.

As our beloved bohabs would come to expect, the Slave Pit has yet again produced its customary GWAR-B-Q commercial commemorating the beastly birthday of the 5th Annual GWAR-B-Q. This year’s clip heavily features Oderus Urungus’ final film performance. Although, Oderus will not be there physically, his spirit will reign over the event. Hail Oderus! View the commercial HERE.

Funny or Die Debuts “The Animated Tales of GWAR”

– November 14th, 2013 –

For the last two years animators Myke Chillian and Tommy Meehan have been working with the members of GWAR to create a “GWARtoon” that was appropriately disgusting and objectionable enough to most accurately represent the most dangerous band in rock and roll history. After all this long and hard work, today Funny or Die finally premieres “The Animated Tales of GWAR“. Check it out HERE.

Animator Myke Chillian described “The Animated Tales of GWAR“:
“Lead singer Oderus Urungus loses his murderous-mojo prompting the rest of the band to embark on an Antarctic quest for the cure. Weird Al Yankovic guest stars.”

Brutal front-fiend Oderus Urungus had this to say about the project–”I hate cartoons…cartoons are for kids, and kids are strictly for eating. But I just might have to back up a little and say that this is the greatest cartoon ever, even if I still hate it, just because it’s about US.”

GWAR will wrap up the first leg of the “Madness at the Core of Time” tour this weekend in Washington, DC. This has been described as GWAR‘s best tour to date (but aren’t they all?) The tour features deathcore heavyweights and label-mates Whitechapel, Richmond, VA thrashers Iron Reagan (featuring Municipal Waste members Tony Foresta and Land Phil as well as Ryan Parrish on drums) and A Band of Orcs (who are actually a band of Orcs).

Following a short Antarctic slumber GWAR will return to the road with three shows around the holidays (December 27th – 29th) with Battlecross and Iron Reagan providing support. Then it’s off to Antarctica again before heading “down under” for their appearance on the 2014 “Soundwave Festival”.

Oderus continued–”This first leg of the Madness tour has been everything I thought it would be and more. I feel we have paid tribute to Flattus, as we will for eternity, and moved into an exciting new chapter of GWAR behind the blistering fury of our new guitar player Pustulus…now I must get back to eating babies.”

After last year’s triumphant performance as part of The AV Club Undercover Series where GWAR gave their take of the classic Kansas song “Carry on Wayward Son” (Which can be viewed HERE) and was voted the best performance of 2012. This year the AV Club actually invited the monsters back to participate in the 2013 edition of the Undercover Series. This year GWAR repeated as champion in the best performance of 2013 with Billy Ocean’s #1 hit single “Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car” with a little twist. Check out their take on the 80′s classic HERE.

GWAR‘s Battle Maximus out now on Metal Blade Records features twelve brand new tracks that not only honor their departed ally, but tells the story of GWAR‘s latest struggle against what may be their greatest enemy yet…the insidious “Mr. Perfect”, who has travelled through time itself to steal the power of GWAR–the power of immortality, and use this power to mutate the human race into his twisted vision of what the “perfect” human should be. Once again GWAR finds themselves as the only thing standing between the human race and the latest super-powered shithead bent on the destruction of GWAR and the enslavement of their worshippers.

Battle Maximus can be ordered from Metal Blade Records HERE, Amazon and  iTunes.

GWAR’s Oderus Issues Public Service Announcement

GWAR recently went back to the band’s hometown of Virginia with a larger than life G Pen to host the GWAR-B-Q, the ultimate BBQ for metal addicts, where lead singer Oderus Urungus had a special announcement to make…

You can also check out the new song “Bloodbath” at this location, which comes off the band’s new album “Battle Maximus,” due out September 17th.

GWAR Posts New Song “Bloodbath” Online

The biggest, sickest, most debauched party of the summer is just days away! That’s right, Slave Pit Inc and your Lords and Masters GWAR are counting down the hours until the 4th Annual GWAR-B-Q.

The mighty GWAR will once again be headlining the event, and will of course feature songs from new album “Battle Maximus.” The event will be held Saturday August 17th at Hadad’s Water Park in Richmond, VA. The event will be held RAIN OR SHINE. Nothing short of nuclear holocaust can stop GWAR, and even that is highly debatable…the GWAR B-Q is on, NO MATTER WHAT!!!

As a special treat for the human scum, Oderus Urungus has decided to give fans another taste of what they can expect from Battle Maximus. GWAR has teamed up with Vice to drop the next tasty morsel from “Battle Maximus” on your pointy little heads. Check out “Bloodbath” below.

Although he is deep in preparations trying to find enough “crackahol” (Oderus’ new favorite drug, a mixture of booze and crack) to get through the weekend, Oderus would never pass up a chance to rant about a new song and the GWAR-B-Q:

“Bloodbath is a catchy little ditty straight from Scumdog City, with a sound reminiscent of past GWAR thrash-ter-pieces like Jack the World or Happy Death Day, yet completely different. It also features a ripping lead from new Scumdog Pustulus Maximus that is sure to melt your eardrums…lyrically it is a rumination on the inevitability of death for you mortals, and how you should not fear this…for death at the hands of GWAR is the most liberating experience you can ever have, especially in our Meat Grinder!”

Slave Pit “GWARtist” Announces Print Line

– April 1st, 2013 –

Collectable Brockie Art For Sale

The man behind the mask of Oderus Urungus, Dave Brockie, today unveiled a new web-store where fans can buy limited-edition, high quality art prints of not only Brockie’s GWAR drawings, but many of his other illustrations. Culled from select images spanning a 30-year career as an artist and illustrator, these highly-collectable prints are now available to the public. Check out www.theartofdavebrockie.com

“For years I have been doing custom paintings and drawings for people and I have gotten so far behind that I constantly have to turn down people looking to get some of my work. A high-quality print line web store will give everybody a chance to have a Brockie on their wall.” said the artist from GWAR‘s “Slave Pit”, their Richmond studio.

Dave Brockie is to many a footnote to the name most people know him by–that of Oderus Urungus, foul-mouthed alien barbarian and longtime lead singer of GWAR, the world’s foremost horror-rock spectacle. GWAR‘s legendary live shows and relentless work-ethic have earned the group of artists and musicians from Richmond, Va. an international reputation as the cutting-edge of outrageous, “Grand Guignol”-style metal theater, and won them legions of fans worldwide. In the course of the groups 25+ year-long career Brockie, as President of Slave Pit Inc., GWAR‘s parent production company, has consistently spearheaded the group’s efforts, not only as the bands lead singer and public mouthpiece, but also as an artist involved in many of GWAR‘s graphic projects.

Brockie continued on like the blowhard that he is. “I actually graduated art school even though I knew it was no guarantee of employment. Nevertheless I deluded myself that I was going to become a fine artist and was painting these giant squiggly blob paintings that actually looked pretty cool, but were never going to pay the bills. I worked construction and knocked over liquor stores to do that. But I was also into comics and illustration and when GWAR started to happen it gave me a great venue for my work. Suddenly I was being called upon to do flyers, t-shirts, comics…even album covers. That turned into a 25+ year stretch where I was always making art of some kind. It’s about damn time I had my own print line!”

The prints are signed and numbered by the artist and are part of a limited edition of 1000 per image. The prints use the highest quality paper and inks, and are mounted on a piece of masonite that features a custom-made 3-D frame that is a throwback to Brockie’s early “squiggle” paintings.

“I hope this is a big success,” said Brockie. “I am going on a pilgrimage to Stalingrad this spring and need money for booze and food. Plus I got kicked in the mouth by a circus-mule and need extensive dental-work. “After I get this print site going, I plan to disappear.
