Týr reveals details for new album, ‘Hel’

– January 10th, 2019 –

Launches first single, “Fire and Flame”

On March 8th, the Faroe Islands’ Týr will release their eighth full-length, Hel, via Metal Blade Records. Hel is a collection of ruthlessly melodic and irresistibly compelling progressive folk metal that will immediately resonate with any who have followed the band at any point over the two decades of their storied career. For a preview of the album, the first single, “Fire and Flame”, can be heard at: metalblade.com/tyr – where Hel can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–digipak-CD
–box set (digipak CD, drinking horn, leather belt clip, poster, autographed photo card – limited to 1000 copies)

Known for their prolific nature – dropping their first five full-lengths in the space of just seven years – the six-year gap between Valkyrja (2013) and Hel is by far the longest between any two of their records. During that period the band toured hard, taking the album around the world, including a support run with Children Of Bodom in North America and an appearance on the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise. However, other factors played into this extended break between releases. “We approached this one differently because I learned that if I continue doing albums in the way we had up to now, I would die from a heart attack before I’m 50!” says guitarist/vocalist Heri Joensen. “That’s one of the reasons we changed our method and took such a long time on this one.” That this tactic – which also includes more songwriting contributions from bassist/vocalist Gunnar Thomsen and guitarist Terji Skibenæs than on previous releases – has been beneficial is borne out in the finished product, which is perhaps more immersive than those that came before. “Musically it leans a bit towards our album, ‘Ragnarok‘ (2005),” states Thomsen. “It’s a bit more epic and also much better worked through than any of our previous albums.” It also marks the recording debut of drummer Tadeusz Rieckmann, who has manned the drum throne for Týr‘s live shows since 2016.

Hel track-listing:
1. Gates of Hel
2. All Heroes Fall

Battle Beast Reveals New Album “No More Hollywood Endings” Details

About two months ago, Finnish heavy metallers Battle Beast announced a 6-week European headline run for spring 2019, with support from newcomers ARION. Today, the six-piece can finally drop their bombshell and reveal more details about their upcoming new studio album, which they’ll be presenting on the aforementioned tour: It’s titled »No More Hollywood Endings« and will be released on March 22, 2019 through Nuclear Blast Records! The eleven featured songs were recorded by keyboardist Janne Björkroth, Viktor Gullichsen and guitarist Joona Björkroth at JKB Studio; the record was also produced and mixed by Janne. Last but no least, the cover artwork was created by Jan Yrlund (Korpiklaani, Manowar etc.), who already took care of the “Bringer Of Pain” design.

Janne stated about the forthcoming record, “The heavy songs are heavier, pop-delights brighter, rock vibes stronger, and sounds richer than before. The emotional scale is wider, and everything is bigger. Stay tuned for 2019!”

Further details as well as a first musical taster will be unveiled soon…!

Comments bassist Mate Molnar, “After the huge success of ‘Blind And Frozen’, we wanted to come out with something more interesting and original as the second official music video of the band. The album was once again recorded in Anton’s own Sound Request Studio, and true to the motto “Never change a winning team”, the cover artwork was created by Roman Ismailov who worked on »Berserker« as well as the first record Kabanen wrote under the banner of Battle Beast, ‘Steel’ (2012). ‘From Hell With Love’ delivers everything that made fans love Anton’s work in the first place. A slew of fast-paced tracks like the opener ‘Cry Out For A Hero’ and ‘Repentless’, hymnic songs ‘Unlimited Sin’ and ‘This Is War’ and one of the band’s specialties, mid-tempo smashers that only Beast In Black can deliver are back and represented on the new disc by the lead single ‘Sweet True Lies’ and the album’s title track. There’s one thing that all of these tracks have in common – each and every song catches the listener with irresistible melodies, taking residence in the listener’s mind from the moment they hear it.

Overkill Reveals New Album “The Wings Of War” Details

Legendary New Jersey thrashers Overkill will unleash their 19th studio record, The Wings Of War, on February 22, 2019 via Nuclear Blast .

Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth comments, “It was a blast making The Wings of War! It is something old feeling new again, as our chemistry was altered by the addition of Jason Bittner. I was curious from the get-go, how would it pan out? I think what we accomplished here is a new, upgraded Overkill that embraced the new chemistry, while taking our roots into the present. The new formula produced not only more raw power, but more places to go with melody, a win, win. The key is being not only interested in the change, but part of it. I’ll tell you what, it’s still fun as hell making Overkill records.”

The Wings Of War was recorded at Gear Recording Studio in New Jersey, SKH Studio in Florida and Jrod Productions with engineering handled by DD and Dave. The album was produced by the band while Chris “Zeuss” Harris.handled the mixing and mastering. Travis Smith (Nevermore, Opeth, Soilwork, Death…) was again enlisted to create the artwork for the album.

The track listing for The Wings Of War
1. Last Man Standing
2. Believe In The Fight
3. Head Of A Pin
4. Bat Shit Crazy
5. Distortion
6. A Mother’s Prayer
7. Welcome To The Garden State
8. Where Few Dare To Walk
9. Out On The Road-Kill
10. Hole In My Soul

Exhorder Signs With Nuclear Blast Records

New Orleans based thrash metal pioneers Exhorder have signed to Nuclear Blast Records!

Comments vocalist Kyle Thomas:
“The excitement level of Exhorder being in contract negotiations once again is higher for us than we can express. Coming to an agreement with Nuclear Blast has inspired us to bring our writing to new heights. People still want to hear this band, as was evident in the reaction to our performances in 2018. Nuclear Blast strongly wants to help facilitate this venture, and for that we are truly excited and grateful. I am looking forward to seeing what we can make happen together over the next few years. The roster at Nuclear Blast speaks for itself, as well as the presence of Monte Conner and Jaap Wagemaker on the team. Be on the lookout, because Exhorder is heading your way once again!”

Adds guitarist Vinnie LaBella:
“What an incredible honour it is to be added to the Nuclear Blast family! We’ve had such a great year already, and now this! We are so proud and could not be in better company moving forward. We are excited for the future. We realise we turned in a couple of classics back in the day and it’s been 27 years since we released our last record. And while those past successes are notable, we feel in our hearts like this new record will be our first record, and we couldn’t have a better partner in NB to bring it to you. New management, new line up, new label, new record, new Exhorder!”

Exhorder were formed in 1985 by a group of friends who wanted to break out of the hardcore scene and had a passion for the heaviest music in the world. They are considered progenitors of the groove-oriented thrash sound later made famous by bands such as Pantera, Lamb Of God, White Zombie, and Machine Head. Coming after years of demos, their debut LP “Slaughter In The Vatican” (1990) was regarded as a major influence on the NOLA metal scene and saw them rapidly rise on the world stage as one of the defining thrash acts of their generation. Their second (and to date last album) The Law was released in 1992 and adopted more of a groove metal sound. It saw the band reach their peak of popularity, unfortunately bad luck and external pressures lead to the demise of the group in 1994.

With the underground remaining steadfast in their dedication to the band, they have since reunited with the lineup from The Law on several occasions. With these reunions they have played Maryland Deathfest, Rock Hard, and countless others. The reunion was cut short in 2011 with the untimely passing of their classic-era bassist Frankie Sparcello. Now the band is back, reunited and hungrier than ever to take on the world. With a boatload of festival dates on the way along with select club shows the New Orleans boys are here to show the world once more what it takes to thrash it up.

Metal Church Posts New Music Video “By The Numbers” Online

West coast metal veterans Metal Church will release their 12th full length studio album “Damned If You Do” via Nuclear Blast Records on December 7th 2018 (Rat Pak Records/America & King Records/Japan). The latest release is the follow-up to their highly successful 2016 album XI, which saw the return of legendary front man Mike Howe. “Damned If You Do” is a cross between the band’s iconic “Blessing In Disguise” and “The Human Factor.” This new offering features ten fully-charged, classic-metal influenced songs showcasing the sound that has garnered the band a solid fan base for over 3 decades.

Today, the band has launched the third single from their upcoming offering entitled ‘By The Numbers’. The video tells the story of a successful businessman who leads a double life as a lead singer in a metal band, something Mike Howe knows all too well. The video for “By The Numbers” can be seen below.

“Damned If You Do” also features new drummer Stet Howland (ex-W.A.S.P./Lita Ford). Stet first arrived after the departure of long-time drummer Jeff Plate, but soon after joining the band he was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Miraculously his treatments for the aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma worked and he was able to begin recording the new album.

Speaking of the new album Stet Howland comments, “From the minute we started tracking this new CD, I had the feeling that it was going to be something special. I knew that I was going to do my best to deliver a top drum performance, not only because of the high standard set by past Metal Church drummers, but also because this is my first CD release after being sick. I’m beyond happy with all aspects of this CD, great songs, great performances, great production, just an overall great CD! I love it!”

Mantar Denied Entry Into Norway, Cancels Oslo Show

German duo Mantar has posted a statement online stating that their show in Oslo tonight has been cancelled, after they were turned away the Norwegian border. The statement reads as follows:

“KEEP NORWAY GREAT,
“KEEP MANTAR OUT! Oslo show cancelled!

“Bad news: we got denied at the border due to some weird tax shit we were supposed to pay for all the equipment. We didn’t have the papers they wanted and getting them would have resulted in not making it in time to oslo anyway. We never ever had that problem before when playing Norway. We are beyond bummed and seriously pissed but will make it up to you asap. Tomorrow: GOTHENBURG!”

Mantar released their third album, “The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze” earlier this year through Nuclear Blast Entertainment and are currently on tour in Europe with Skeletonwitch and Deathrite.
