Megadeth Bass Player David Ellefson Resurrects Combat Records

Megadeth’s David Ellefson and his EMP Label Group will be resurrecting the Combat Records label next year. The move comes as a return of sorts for Ellefson as Megadeth‘s 1985 debut album “Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!” was released via the label, which also had a part in a handful of the subsequent albums that followed from the band.

Comments The EMP Label Group of their plans for the now imprint:

“So we have a huge announcement to make. And, for once, that is really, truly, an understatement. We have teased this for a while, but now the cat is officially coming out of the bag. Most of you will remember Combat Records as one of the seminal thrash labels of the 1980s, their most prominent artist being, of course, Megadeth (the COMBAT imprint appeared on all MEGADETH releases through RUST IN PEACE.) Combat was also home to Helstar, Circle Jerks, Exodus, Nuclear Assault, and many more of the most influential Metal and Punk bands of all time.

After a handful of ownership changes and weird attempted reboots, COMBAT went dormant in the early 2000s and ceased to exist. in 2016, David Ellefson, with his partner Thom Hazaert from EMP Label Group, did the due diligence to research and acquire the intellectual property and the COMBAT brand, and bring it home to the EMP family.

With the UTMOST respect to the legacy of the past, COMBAT will relaunch in 2018 as an imprint of EMP LABEL GROUP, releasing not only releases from classic Thrash and Metal artists, but as a home for new and up and coming artists as well. It is an honor and a privilege to resurrect one of the World’s most recognized and beloved Metal brands, that has been such an instrumental and important piece of David‘s history and legacy.

This is really only HALF the story, as we have secured some releases from mind-blowing legendary artists that we are dying to announce.. Look for a full press release coming later this week with more details, info on some releases, etc. But all things in good time. Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare for COMBAT.”

The recently reformed sludgecore beasts from Raging Speedhorn will be bringing their filthy riffs to the Ronnie James Dio main stage of the upcoming Bloodstock festival. The band’s Gordon Morison comments: “We’re over the moon to be playing Bloodstock 2015. It’ll be awesome to share the stage with some of our old friends like Orange Goblin and Napalm Death. See you down the front!”

Progressive metal Brits Xerath also bring the heavy to Friday’s main stage. The band enthuses, “We are utterly stoked to announce we will be returning to Catton Hall once again to perform at this year’s Bloodstock festival. We are especially proud to confirm we will be gracing the mainstage for the first time since our debut at the festival in 2009 which promises to almost certainly be a career defining moment for the band. We sincerely cannot wait to see you all there! Warm up those necks Bloodstockers!”

Godflesh And Onslaught Join Bloodstock 2015 Lineup

The organizers of the Bloodstock Festival are excited to announce their third headliner for the Sophie Lancaster Stage, and a slew of other Sophie stage bands for the August 2015 event.

Industrial outfit Godflesh is to headline Sunday night on the Sophie Lancaster stage. Frontman Justin Broadrick comments: “Godflesh is thrilled to be playing a very metal UK festival! We don’t get asked to play many, as we’re often viewed as not ‘real’ metal enough, or we’re generally seen as outsiders, which we are, thank you. That doesn’t mean we don’t like to be invited to be a real metal band once in a while and especially in the Derbyshire countryside! Thank you Bloodstock!“

British thrash stalwarts Onslaught also join the Sophie stage line-up on Sunday. The band is celebrating the 30th anniversary in 2015 of debut album, “Power From Hell,” with a special EP on the cards for release and special anniversary merch available.

Self-appointed “caveman battle doom” 3-piece, Conan will crash Friday’s Sophie bill. Having recently returned from a string of shows in Australia and mainland Europe, Conan is prepping for a slot on the Maryland DeathFest this summer, before bringing an unholy wall of sound to Catton Park in August.

Greek southern-tinged heavy rockers Planet Of Zeus step up for a Sophie stage slot on Saturday, while London’s blackened doomsters Bast also join the Friday bill. The currently announced lineup for the 2015 edition is as follows:

Ronnie James Dio Stage

Rob Zombie, Trivium, Within Temptation, Opeth, Sabaton, Black Label Society, Sepultura, Cannibal Corpse, Ihsahn, Orange Goblin, Death DTA, Nuclear Assault, 1349, Dark Angel, Armored Saint, Belphegor, Overkill, Ensiferum, Agalloch, Enslaved, Pro Pain, Korpiklaani, Wolf, Napalm Death

Skurk Releasing “Final Gift,” Posts Lyric Video

Icelandic thrash act Skurk is gearing up to release “Final Gift” on June 20th, 2014 and the band has now dropped a lyric video for the title track, which can be seen below. The following press release was also issued about Skurk:

“The name Skurk is an old northern word, and stands for all kinds of noise and fuss or hooligan and ribaldry. The music is inspired by Kreator, Metallica, Sacred Reich, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Helloween, Nuclear Assault, Wrathchild America and Black Sabbath to name some of the guys’ most favourite bands then and now.

Skurk toured Iceland ferociously for three years – through blizzard and snow, and finally bought a studio. The next step was to make an album, which was distributed mostly amongst friends and family. Subsequently the band broke up, and in the coming years some of the members found themselves in various bands such as Changer and Shiva while others pursued other interests and work careers as lumberjack mountain guides and meat cleavers.

Skurk reunited in 2011 to play a special concert with viking band Skálmöld, teamed up with drummer Porvalur Helgason (Gruesome Glory, Malignant Mist) the concert was a total success, and the band decided to continue rehearsing. Skurk later shared the stage with great artists as Legend, L’esprit Du Clan, Hangman’s Chair, Momentum, and Eiríkur Hauksson (Eric Hawk) from Artch, amongst others. With revitalised spark, new music started to brew, and in 2013 Skurk went to studio GFG to record a new album and hired non other than Kristján Heiðarsson (Changer, Dark Harvest, Vetur) to play the drums. Since the original album was released in such limited edition, the band members decided to record their favourite tracks from the early days, along with one new track.”
