Mayhem To Release Dead Era Box Set, “Cursed In Eternity”

Peaceville has announced Cursed In Eternity, a comprehensive limited edition deluxe set covering the influential Dead era of Norwegian legends Mayhem. The set will be available on November 16th, and is available for pre-order here.

Containing six picture disc LPs, 7”, 92 page book, posters, and DVD featuring the never seen before Jessheim and Sarpsborg live shows plus Henhouse rehearsals.

“We are glad to be able to honour the Euronymous and Dead era in this comprehensive box set that Peaceville and Finn Håkon Rødland put together for the band.” – Necrobutcher & Hellhammer

Mayhem, the Norwegian pioneers responsible for invigorating a global scene alongside originators such as Venom, Celtic Frost & Bathory, formed in 1984, and with a long history of tragedy, intrigue and infamy have become truly revered legends of black metal, with a large part of their legacy established in the late 80’s & early 90’s, when guitarist Euronymous and bassist Necrobutcher welcomed Hellhammer on drums and Dead on vocals, to help shape a new era of darkness and Armageddon.

Marking 30 years since this particularly iconic and subsequently ill-fated union, the deluxe Cursed In Eternity set contains a full and expansive collection of work by the band during that period. This includes Mayhem’s legendary 1990 live dates in Norway and short German tour, plus the additions of the Out From The Dark and Henhouse rehearsal sessions.

These six titles are all presented on a special limited picture disc format for this release, with the set also including a 7” single vinyl containing two studio tracks (“Freezing Moon” and “Carnage”); recorded initially for the CBR compilation Projections Of A Stained Mind and here featuring sleeve artwork made at the time by former vocalist, Maniac.

Along with a full 92-page book recalling tales of their legendary shows and inspirational music from both band members and others from the scene, and including letters and previously unseen photographs sourced from personal archives, all in collaboration with the True Mayhem Collection, Cursed In Eternity also presents, for the first time, a DVD containing never-seen-before footage from the entire Jessheim concert, plus front of stage video from the Sarpsborg show, giving a priceless insight into how these shows were witnessed at the time. The DVD is completed by full footage of the Henhouse rehearsals.

As a final bonus inclusion, Cursed In Eternity features posters from the original designs and Zeitz photo from those iconic live shows.

Ondt Blod Premiere New Song “Start Han Opp” From Upcoming New Album “Natur”

Norwegian melodic hardcore band ONDT BLOD debut “Start Han Opp”, a new song from their upcoming album Natur.

The band commented: “Grandiose bragging, and a middle finger to tastemakers and their followers. Humbly stating that I´m the “dárrolaš Áilohaš/ the Norwegian Áilohaš”, the greatest in Sápmi, and ”young and hungry til I die”. Heavy riffage, and a hedonistic chorus filled with power and joy. A double gasoline-and-tonic coming up.”

Dimmu Borgir Reveals New Album Title And Release Date

Over seven years, deathlike silence has filled the halls of the world‘s biggest black metal forge, Dimmu Borgir, whilst powers have been gathering to resurrect the band right in time for their 25th anniversary. Now they finally mark their return with a vicious work of art that can be defined as timeless in the truest sense of the word: Eonian.

The song writing core of Dimmu Borgir furthermore consists of charismatic vocalist Shagrath, as well as the string wizards Silenoz and Galder, but other familiar faces also emerge from the darkness; drummer Daray and keyboarder Gerlioz are still part of the team, and Gaute Storaas helped with the choral arrangements for the majestic voices of the Schola Cantrum Choir.

The cover artwork was designed in fascinating detail by Zbigniew M. Bielak (Ghost, Behemoth, Mayhem).

This tenth full-length record will see the light of spring on 4th May and it will contain 10 new tracks, produced by the band itself and engineered by Jens Bogren. Emerging from the dark minds of the three songwriters, Eonian follows a philosophical concept, dealing with the illusion of time:

“Time, when not approaching it from the construct we’re used to can’t be defined and thus it is illusory”, explains axemaster Silenoz. “There’s only an ‘eternal now’, which the album title is already hinting at. When we travel between the worlds seen and unseen, the perception of time ceases to exist, it has no function. Our energy is our torch and our compass when we make rifts and pierce through the veil – when we go beyond.”

Vocalist Shagrath adds: “Eonian represents the illusion of time, everything that is and always has been. For us, it also marks the 25th anniversary of Dimmu Borgir and the album itself is a tribute to our own history and the Norwegian black metal history.”

On February 23rd, Dimmu Borgir will unveil their first single ‘Interdimensional Summit’ which will be released as a 7” vinyl EP, providing a first taste of the upcoming album.

The EP contains the new track ‘Interdimensional Summit’ as well as ‘Puritania (Live In Oslo)’ and will be available in red & clear, and gold vinyl colors.

Adam “Nergal” Darski (Behemoth) On Decapitated: “I Know These Guys And I Know They Couldn’t/Wouldn’t Hurt A Fly”

This past September Behemoth frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski urged fans not to jump to conclusions regarding the arrest of fellow Polish death metal band Decapitated. All four members of the group had been arrested and were facing a potential trial on charges of rape and kidnapping. Last week however, all charges were dropped against the band, with the courting concern for the well-being of the alleged victim. Nergal has since spoken publicly on the case again via his Instagram, offering the following:

“4 months ago, Decapitated were accused of kidnap and gang rape – subsequently they were put in a County prison and later into a local jail…and the shit hit the fan! I recall the similar case of my friends from Satyricon/Keep of Kalessin who spent 2 months in a Canadian prison because someone accused them of rape.

It took 2 months of legal bureaucracy and the help of the Norwegian government to get them out. The accuser finally recanted the allegations, claiming it was a mistake. They never received compensation for financial losses or emotional trauma, just a brief apology and a document to prove their innocence (which they must always carry around with them).

Somehow, from the very beginning my intuition told me my friends from Decapitated would be just fine. Now, I’m not claiming to be a prophet but I’m an optimist and a good judge of character, I know these guys and I know they couldn’t/wouldn’t hurt a fly. They are now released and have had charges dropped (without prejudice).

It’s obviously a big relief to their families and friends, including myself. So…what’s next for their career after such severe defamation? What about their good name? What about their families? I hope they get their justice and strike back soon!!! And Justice For All? Well…not quite. But getting innocent people back home…HELL YES!

Last thing, friends – stay rational and reasonable and think carefully before you speak… and caste a stone at innocent people.
Welcome home brothers.”

MAYHEM To Kick Off European Tour This Friday

“…Mysteriis… remains a singularly potent document, its expressions of alienation and nihilism lent an icy severity by Aarseth’s lacerating guitar buzz, session vocalist Attila Csihar’s arcane croak and presentation of Dead’s lyrical gothic terror and the pummeling drums of Hellhammer.” — Rolling Stone Norwegian black metal icons MAYHEM will begin the second leg of their […]

Enslaved Finishes Work On New Album

It is accomplished – the Norwegian progressive extreme metal crew Enslaved just completed the recording process on a 14th full-length album.

In the renowned Fascination Street Studios, Jens Bogren polished this new raw diamond with his mixing and mastering skills. Just like for predecessor “In Times” (reviewed here) the metal veterans from Bergen still never look back and keep on expanding their horizons.

“I’m always psyched and proud when we finish an album recording, and this is no exception!” states singer Grutle Kjellson. “It was a really exciting process this time, with the line-up change and everything, so although it wasn’t a dramatic change, the band dynamics were suddenly different. But, it was like a little re-boot, a fresh start so to speak. The studio sessions were great, and we all feel that we have done something truly amazing. We hope you’ll enjoy it. Ugh!”

Stay tuned for full info to arrive later in the summer. Enslaved will also be touring the UK and Ireland as support to Opeth in November:

Nov 15th – Manchester, O2 Ritz
Nov 16th – Glasgow, Barrowlands
Nov 17th – Belfast, Limelight
Nov 18th – Dublin, Academy
Nov 19th – Nottingham, Rock City
Nov 21st – Bristol, O2 Academy
Nov 22nd – Birmingham, O2 Institute
