The video captures the severity of the times we live in, as well as a means to communicate beyond basic language using iconic imagery, campy techniques, historical relevance, as well as a glimpse into the future.”

*=Tombs headline show

Tombs front-man Mike Hill is not a man interested in appeasing his existing audience or modifying the music he makes in the hope of luring in a broader one. Letting the songs come as and when inspiration hits him is integral to Hill’s process, and this accounts in part for The Grand Annihilation‘s diversity. The blasting, scathing yet melodic black metal savagery of opener “Black Sun Horizon” and “Way Of The Storm” are very much built to destroy, while wielding a poignancy that is undeniable – both of which stand in strong contrast to the uncomfortable post-punk squall of “Underneath” that showcases Hill’s Nick Cave/Ian Curtis-esque singing voice, while the likes of the throbbing “Saturnalian” and unnerving tribal thunder of “Walk With Me In Nightmares” stand in categories all of their own. While every track on The Grand Annihilation stands separate from those around it, it is still a cohesive collection, and at no point do the stylistic twists and turns undermine its coherence. “If you’ve been following Tombs, you probably know to expect the unexpected, and I always strive to present a full range of emotion on everything with the band’s name on it,” Hill explains. “That said, this is a very dark and introspective record that digs deep into the common ideas of mortality, infinity and cosmic mysteries. The lyrics on the new record are a celebration of freedom through embracing the dark side. Once you realize that you follow the dark path – the path of the individual – there is a certain feeling of liberation that accompanies it.”

The Grand Annihilation track-listing
1. Black Sun Horizon
2. Cold
3. Old Wounds
4. November Wolves
5. Underneath
6. Way of the Storm
7. Shadows at the End of the World
8. Walk with Me in Nightmares
9. Saturnalian
10. Temple of Mars

Byzantine launches lyric video for new single, “Trapjaw”

– June 14th, 2017 –

On July 28th, Byzantine will release their new album, The Cicada Tree, via Metal Blade Records. Heralded as the most underrated band from the New Wave of American Heavy Metal Movement, Byzantine has slowly gained a cult-like following after releasing 5 genre-bending albums. 16 years underground, it’s finally time for the world to hear Byzantine! For a preview of The Cicada Tree, a lyric video for the new single “Trapjaw” has been launched online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ro5Innvk0bo

To watch the video for the previous single, “New Ways to Bear Witness”, please visit: metalblade.com/byzantine – where the record can also be pre-ordered in the following formats:

–CD
–180g black 2LP + etching (limited to 150 copies – USA exclusive)
–peach orange marbled 2LP + etching (limited to 350 copies – USA exclusive)
–clear pastel rose 2LP + etching (limited to 100 copies – EU exclusive)
* exclusive bundles with a shirt, plus digital options are also available!

In conjunction with PledgeMusic, The Cicada Tree can also be pre-ordered at: pledgemusic.com – where you can reserve your copy of the album, signed material from the band, apparel, and more.

To state that The Cicada Tree is “classic Byzantine” in no way implies that this is an album solely rooted in the band’s past. Certainly, all of the hallmarks that have made their sound so compelling for close to two decades are present and correct: muscular yet lithe riffs and fluid leads play against gripping, dynamic and at times unpredictable rhythms, while rich melodies and lyrics that are both involved and intelligent wind their way through every track. But, once more, the groove metal unit has continued their steady evolution – the interplay between their members organic and natural, imbuing the record’s sixty-two-minute running time with a freshness and urgency. Founding member Chris “OJ” Ojeda states, “The first few albums, you’re trying to find your sound, and sometimes you tend to not see the forest for the trees. Now, on album number six, it seems a calmness took hold during the songwriting process, possibly from just having more confidence in our sound. At this point, our fans expect us to experiment and push our boundaries, which is an extremely liberating feeling.”

The Cicada Tree track-listing
1. New Ways to Bear Witness
2. Vile Maxim
3. Map of the Creator
4. Dead as Autumn Leaves
5. Trapjaw
6. The Subjugated
7. Incremental
8. The Cicada Tree
9. Verses of Violence
10. Moving in Stereo (The Cars cover)
11. Servitude (Fishbone cover)

Igorrr launches “The Making of ‘Savage Sinusoid’ [part3]“

– June 13th, 2017 –

On June 16th, Igorrr – the brainchild of French musician and eclectic composer Gautier Serre – will release their new album, Savage Sinusoid, via Metal Blade Records. On this record, electronic manipulations, accordion, saxophone, sitar, harpsichord, mandolin and strings sit comfortably alongside ruthless blastbeats, chunky riffs, death grunts and soaring operatic vocals – and as chaotic as this might sometimes seem, there is no lack of heart behind everything thundering from the speakers. To watch a behind-the-scenes video of the making of Savage Sinusoid, part 3 of the series can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/nLGLPWrfkI4

The previous episodes can be seen below:

To realize Savage Sinusoid as a completely sample-free record, Serre reunited with vocalists Laurent Lunoir and Laure Le Prunenec, along with drummer Sylvain Bouvier, and collaborated with more musicians than on any of his previous releases – one of those guests being Cattle Decapitation‘s Travis Ryan, who lends his vocals on “Cheval”, “Apopathodiaphulatophobie” and “Robert”. “Viande” also sees Teloch (Mayhem) contribute some guitar/bass work, while “Houmous” features accordionists Pierre Mussi and Adam Stacey (the latter of whom is in Secret Chiefs 3 – a project by Mr. Bungle‘s Trey Spruance). While Savage Sinusoid draws from a plethora of genres, Serre has no intention of baffling or alienating potential listeners. As he explains:“I just want to make the music I love, without asking myself if it’s gonna be too complex or too far from what people like. I want to make the music which has sense to me, with no restrictions, like a big party with metalheads, electronics nerds, classical and baroque-heads and gypsy violinists getting drunk and joining together to bring the best of every genre.”

Six Feet Under’s Chris Barnes lends voice for upcoming animated series, ‘The Olympians’

– June 8th, 2017 –

For the first time ever, Six Feet Under‘s Chris Barnes will make a special voice-over appearance on an animated series: The Olympians – a comedy about the Greek gods falling on hard times and struggling to find a place in modern society. Recently screened at the Portland Comedy Film Fest (where it won “Best Animated Comedy”!), The Olympians is directed by Bob Spang (Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear) and scored by Cormac Bluestone (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), with voices by Jon Etheridge (Battlefield Friends, Doraleous and Associates, jonnyethco on youtube), Jimmy Euringer (Mindless Self Indulgence, Guardians of the Galaxy 2), Stevic Mckay (Twelve Foot Ninja), Bill Gaal (Nothingface, In For the Kill, Knives out), Rob Kersey (Psychostick), Sean Zatorsky (Chimaira, Daath, Sinsaenum), Jason Suecoff (producer, mixer, guitarist and songwriter), Richard Thomas (Mushroomhead, Ventana), Matt Foran (Circus of Dead Squirrels, Ventana) – in addition to Chris Barnes, as “Chad”.

Chris Barnes comments: “Lending my voice for an animated feature is something I haven’t had the privilege of attempting or being involved with…So I feel pretty lucky and excited to be involved with The Olympians!!”

Six Feet Under recently released their 12th studio album, Torment, via Metal Blade Records. As a new leap in intensity, Torment gives fans plenty of classic Six Feet Under groove, with a much more aggressive approach and blast beats throughout. This is a cantankerous Six Feet Under with absolutely nothing to prove. This is Six Feet Under at their most deadly. To preview and purchase Torment, please visit: metalblade.com/sixfeetunder

Six Feet Under will headline the “X – Mass In Hell” Festival this winter, with more tour dates to be announced soon. See below for details!
