Chrch Joins Neurot Recordings – Band To Release New Full-Length This Spring

Sacramento, California based doom quintet Chrch has joined the Neurot Recordings family for the release of their forthcoming full-length, Light Will Consume Us All, slated to drop this spring.

Comments the band: “We are very excited to be working with Neurot for our next record. To be able to share the continuation of our narrative with the world through them is thrilling. Neurosis is the apex of integrity in music to us and it’s an honor to work with like-minded individuals for this release.”

Standing at a crossroads of light and dark, Chrch wields epic, lengthy songs, massive low end, and an occult vocal presence in a perfect blend of height and depth. Chrch has been hard at work crafting their particular sound since late 2013. There is no image or campy gimmick to uphold, only the humble glorification of their fundamental musical elements.

This purity and honesty comes across in a striking manner on the band’s debut Unanswered Hymns (Battleground Records, 2015), a sprawling roller coaster of an album. Long form songs build and heedlessly dismantle as the band reaches sonic heights and beautiful plateaus. Severe, sometimes unrelenting, vocals contrast melodic singing; massive fuzz gives way to clean guitar parts. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Patrick Hills at Earthtone Studios in Rocklin, California, it exudes a warm, organic tone that draws the listener in with a sound influenced by traditional doom, psych rock, drone, and ambience.

The band’s second full length, the impending Light Will Consume Us All, carries with it the same quality of songwriting that caught the attention of fans worldwide on their debut. Building upon this unyielding foundation, Light Will Consume Us All continues Chrch’s narrative, traversing life’s epic journey of loss, reclamation and, ultimately, finding hope within the darkness.

Minimalist, indulgent, or straightforward; the music of Chrch calls the listener to inhabit it, allowing enough room for its transmutation into anything one desires of it.

Stand by for further info on Light Will Consume Us All to be announced in the weeks to come.

Chrch is:
Eva Rose – vocals
Chris Lemos – guitar, vocals
Ben Cathcart – bass
Adam Jennings – drums
Karl Cordtz – guitar, vocals

Dark Buddha Rising Signs To Neurot Recordings

The ritualistic doom practitioners who make up Dark Buddha Rising are Neurot Recordings’ latest signees. The label comments:

“Hailing from Finland and with four albums already under their belt (most recently 2013’s Dakhmandal), Dark Buddha Rising conjures psychedelic sprawling space jams made up of expansive yet concentrated bellows of decaying distortion and broken-signal analog bleeps, cannoning across antimatter, and presented with staggering finesse.”

Comments the band: “We are more than honored to be a part of the Neurot family. Their music has torn wounds so deep, they still bleed the black blood of inspiration. We share the profound principle towards music as necessity of our existence in this universe. To proceed into the last cycle of the Ennealogy with Neurot Recordings is a predestined path to spread the art of black psychedelia.”

Adds Neurot Recordings’ Steve Von Till: “Dark Buddha Rising are one of the darkest, trance-inducing bands I have ever witnessed. Neurosis was lucky enough to play several shows with them last year and each night I was completely hypnotized. This is true ritual music that should not be taken lightly. This is a deep, introspective conjuring of those aspects of ourselves that are uncomfortable to come face to face with, but necessary if we are to grow. We feel very lucky to be able to work with them on their next sonic rite.”

USX Announces New Tour Dates

Appalachian masters of dark psychedelia, USX (formerly U.S. Christmas), will take to the road this week for a run of shows through the Southeastern U.S. states alongside local brethren Generation Of Vipers.

The five-city run begins on Wednesday, July 17th in Asheville followed by Athens, Atlanta, Savannah, and Columbia through next weekend. The two acts are to share the stage with Sons of Tonatiuh, Across Tundras, and more throughout the trek.

Stated USX founder Nate Hall of the trek: “We are anticipating some good hot and sweaty shows with our good friends Generation of Vipers, Sons of Tonatiuh, and some cool new southern bands. We are hitting some of our favorite cities and it would be cool to see a ton of people come out. As always, we will play as loud and hard as we can. And we are LOADED with merch.”

7/17/2013 The Boiler Room – Asheville, NC
7/18/2013 Flicker – Athens, GA

7/20/2013 The Jinx – Savannah, GA
7/21/2013 Jakes – Columbia, SC

The following press release was also issued about the band: “A six-pack of talented musicians, USX, having converted the name from their initial moniker U.S. Christmas, is a long-running and major element to the Neurot Recordings roster, with a plethora of LPs and other releases as well as Nate Hall’s maiden solo effort on the label’s roster. The latest USX studio effort, the epic The Valley Path, was released via Neurot in mid-2011, the expansive album consisting of one mammoth, nearly forty-minute track of esoteric beauty, showcasing the sextet’s uneasily-classified folk and psyche-driven rock at its most expansive yet.”

Wino Streaming Townes Van Zandt Tribute Song "Nothing"

As previously announced, this June Neurot Recordings will issue a special three-way split CD in tribute to late American folk music hero Townes Van Zandt in North America, the homage bearing contributions from Scott Kelly (Neurosis, Shrinebuilder, Tribes of Neurot, etc.), Steve Von Till (Neurosis, Tribes of Neurot, Harvestman, etc.) and Scott “Wino” Weinrich (Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, The Hidden Hand, Shrinebuilder, etc.).

As part of their weekly “Wino Wednesday” installment series, today The Obelisk is hosting an exclusive stream of one of Weinrich’s offerings from the Van Zandt homage, in the form of the record’s seventh song, “Nothing,” right here.

Also still available is Scott Kelly’s rendition of “St. John The Gambler” downloadable at this location.

After having performed material by Van Zandt solo and through various collaborations on stage over recent years, on solo releases and more, the aptly entitled “Songs of Townes Van Zandt” brings several songs each from Steve Von Till, Scott Kelly, and Wino together in praise of his deep musical influence on them all. Through a personal contact of the artists, newly-formed label My Proud Mountain was founded specially in order to release this tribute, with Neurot Recordings handling the North American release of the album on June 12th.

Nate Hall Posts New Song "The Earth In One Cell" Online

Today Cvlt Nation is hosting an exclusive track premiere of “The Earth In One Cell” from U.S. Christmas mastermind Nate Hall. Following several LPs released under the Neurot Recordings banner, this May the founding USX vocalist/guitarist will release his first solo full-length entitled “A Great River.”

Comments Hall on the track: “’The Earth In One Cell’ has been kicking around in my brain for years before I got it right and ready to record. In a way, it was a catalyst for the whole album, because once I got it done the rest followed quickly. I used a capo on the twelfth fret of my electric guitar to get the chimey string sound. It was a natural song to start the record.”

Check out “The Earth In One Cell,” the opening track to the record, at this location.

Set for European release on May 7th and in North America on May 8th, “A Great River,” which rock/doom portal The Obelisk crowns a “…beautiful and lush work of a songwriter beginning what will hopefully be a long journey,” offers up a lush landscape of pastoral richness. Recorded in March 2011 by Travis Kammeyer at Fahrenheit Studio in Johnson City, Tennessee, the work draws from the musical history of America, the melancholy of Appalachia, and harnesses the “electric vacuum roar” of guitar slingers past and present.
