At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg checked in with the following comment about the 7” EP release: “The idea of getting guest vocalists on board for the bonus tracks for the album was us trying something new again…This time we wanted to get other artists involved in our music, getting their takes on our new songs. It was a pleasure working with everybody and all songs grew immensely in the process. The songs we did with Rob Miller was for me personally something extra. Of course, people who know me, know that I am a massive Amebix fan. And I love the more recent stuff with Tau Cross too. I had no idea what to expect. But the songs grew so goddamn much together with Rob‘s powerful voice. We decided early on that these versions were worthy of their own release. This is for me personally one of the greatest achievements of my career, to share the vocal space with one of my favourite vocalists of all time. I am so proud of this release. Hope everyone else gets as much joy out of it as I do.”

Metal Underground caught up with At The Gates guitarist Martin Larsson at this year’s Bloodstock Open Air festival, in which the musician hinted that new music could come sooner than people expect.

All That Remains Guitarist Oli Herbert’s Death Being Treated As Possible Murder

The Washington Pundit has reported that the death of All That Remains guitarist Oli Herbert is being treated as a potential murder, with his wife and a friend of hers suspected of killing the musician. It reports that the guitarist had made the decision to divorce his wife Beth and that his will had been changed the week before his death.

The Washington Pundit goes on to say: “For those who are questioning our sources and who we are, know we can’t say much at this time other than we are in close contact with Oli’s close friends and our CEO, Michael Stewart, is a former member of the metal band Motograter, whose former vocalist now fronts Five Finger Death Punch; a band very close to Oli. We aren’t outsiders. We know things the public doesn’t know. Our focus is to assure those who care about Oli that everything is being handled and Justice Will be Served.”

“We’ve been in contact with a few people who are actively working to bring justice for Oli Herbert. While we can’t say much at this time, (at risk of hurting the case), just know justice will be served, despite what his wife is saying. The people that matter are gathering evidence, the truth and all the facts will be revealed at the appropriate time. Your fight for justice isn’t going unheard. Keep speaking up for Oli.”

Marilyn Manson Fires Bassist Twiggy Ramirez Amid Sexual Abuse Allegations

After twenty five years together, Marilyn Manson has fired his bass player Twiggy Ramirez (real name: Jeordie White,) following a statement from Jack Off Jill singer Jessicka Addams that while dating the musician, she was subjected to rape, domestic abuse and other distressing and traumatising situations. Manson initially posted a short statement which read:

“I have decided to part ways with Jeordie White as a member of Marilyn Manson. He will be replaced on the upcoming tour. I wish him well.” After Addams made her allegations however, Manson added on Instagram: “This is a sad day. I knew Jessicka and Jeordie had a romantic relationship many years ago and I considered and still consider Jessicka to be a friend. I knew nothing about these allegations until very recently and am saddened by Jessicka’s obvious distress.”

Addams revealed the upsetting accusations on her Facebook page, a sample of which reads as follows:

“I have lived with the overwhelming shame and guilt of being raped for well over 20 years now. Like many survivors, I unknowingly hid an abusive relationship in a most unhealthy way, masking it behind a fun loving, creatively artistic facade I struggled to wear on the outside world. Since I roamed in similar musical circles and shared many friends with this rapist, the shock of bumping into him in social situations would leave me sick to my stomach. I’d sometimes find myself drinking too much to pretend he was not there. These unbearable occurrences often tested my own limits or my strengths, yet I found my own weakened behavior seemingly sickened me every unfortunate time I found myself in the same room as him. I did not want him to own the power I assumed was his in every unwarranted encounter, so I eventually compartmentalized the recurring nightmares of running into my rapist, Jeordie White.

“In 1997, I was warned by my band’s record company that if I revealed my story publically, there would be a very good chance that my band Jack Off Jill would be black balled by concert promoters, radio programmers, and other bands and their managers. Jack Off Jill was also warned of running the risk of losing our coveted record deal (which they gave us!!,) as they were certain no one would ever take a rape victim in this male dominated music business seriously, nevermind a ferocious, disenfranchised, outspoken overweight front woman such as myself! The label blatantly feared the big machine behind Marilyn Manson would use their power to destroy not only Jack Off Jill, but my name, Jessicka, as well. The pressure and guilt of the inevitable repercussions of my rape story affecting my band’s livelihood, happiness and success kept me silent for years.”

White himself had not taken part in the recording of the new Marilyn Manson album, “Heaven Upside Down,” though was still listed as a member of the live band. He has not yet commented on the allegations.

Former Black Sabbath Keyboardist Geoff Nicholls Passes Away

Former Black Sabbath keyboardist Geoff Nicholls has passed away after a battle with lung cancer. He was sixty eight years old. The news was broken by Nicholls’ former bandmate Tony Iommi, who had worked with the musician from 1979 to 1996. Iommi posted a message online which reads as follows:

“I’m so saddened to hear of the loss of one of my dearest and closest friends Geoff Nicholls. He’s been suffering for a while now with lung cancer.

“Geoff and I have always been very close and he has been a real true friend to me and supported me all the way for nearly 40 years. I will miss him dearly and he will live in my heart until we meet again. Rest in peace my dear friend.”

Another tribute was posted by former Black Sabbath singer Tony Martin, whom Nicholls had continued to work with in the band, Headless Cross. Martin stated:

“He was resigned to his deteriorating health and wished me well. That was the last I spoke to him. I can’t tell you how much I am saddened by his passing – even though we knew of his diagnosis. He will be very missed. I will always regard him as my writing partner and advisor and all round friend and confidante. Rock on, mate. Miss you already.”

Nicholls joined Black Sabbath after leaving the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal band Quartz in 1979, initially as a second guitarist, though he also handled bass duties on occasion before becoming the group’s keyboard player. He was rarely seen on stage with the other members, performing instead behind the curtain and performed on every Black Sabbath album from “Heaven And Hell” to “Forbidden,” after which his place in the band was ousted by Ozzy Osbourne keyboardist Adam Wakeman for the reunion tours in 2004 and 2005.
