Aztec Metal Band Cemican Signs To M-Theory Audio; Plans New Album For Spring

The Mexican-based Aztec metal group Cemican – whose unique music incorporates elements of the legends, mysticism and ideologies of ancient Mexican culture – has signed with M-Theory Audio, who plans to release the group’s new album in the late spring/early summer.

Cemican – who combine the modern instrumentation of a metal band with traditional pre-Hispanic instruments – experienced a breakout year in 2018. In addition to their new single/video “Guerreros de Cemican” receiving regular airplay on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal, the six-piece group was invited to perform at the Paris edition of the Download Festival and Germany’s Wacken Open Air, as well as Force Fest – described by Revolver as “Mexico’s premier open-air festival” – in their native country.

The band plans to build on their momentum on 2019, when they will return to Europe in both the winter – when they’ll perform at France’s Cernunnos Pagan Fest and Germany’s Wacken Winter Nights – as well as the summer, when they will make their debut at the French festival Hellfest.

“I was first exposed to the sound of Cemican upon hearing ‘Guerreros de Cemican’ played on Liquid Metal. Finding out more about this exciting new band I saw the captivating promo video and that they were performing on some big shows,” explains M-Theory label head Marco Barbieri. “I was impressed and wanted to buy their record only to find that they were still unsigned and looking for a home. I immediately had to get in touch and share my enthusiasm and belief in the group and their musical and visual concept and here I’m proud to announce the forthcoming album and help further develop the band and spread their appeal.”

“Life is the center of every culture, the mysticism and ancient sounds gathered in the path of the death, warrior blood and glory of an empire,” states Xaman Ek. “The rituals of the Aztecs lead by the war drums thru the red path…TODOS SOMOS GUERREROS.” (We Are All Warriors)

Formed in 2008, Cemican has independently released two albums to date – 2009’s Ometiliztli and 2012’s Ticateh Ipan Miquixtlahuac. More information on the group’s new record – which will include “Guerreros de Cemican” in addition to other new tracks recorded in late 2018 – will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Eluveitie Reveals New Album “Ategnatos” Details

We all wade through archetypes. We all ARE archetypes. Distant echoes of a life both primeval and noble. To embrace these archetypes, to accept them not only as a part of life but as life itself is what some may call enlightenment, some peace of mind. Eluveitie call it “Ategnatos.” And by using their longest gap between two Metal albums to gather momentum, they just forged their strongest album around it.

The new album “Ategnatos” will be released on April 5th 2019 via Nuclear Blast.

On an album both mystical and philosophical, Eluveitie propel mythology, pagan belief and spirituality into our modern world. “This one almost became something like a socio-critical uncovering work,” says Chrigel, “some kind of a revelation, a doomsday prophecy. Dark and severe in its atmosphere and charisma, and also occult, arcane and elitist.” The album itself is a manifesto, a fast-paced, highly dramatic and embellished work on which today’s society sees itself in the mirror of ancient Celtic mythology and knowledge. “The image, of course, is blood-curling”, Chrigel adds with a bitter grin. “At least to those with eyes to see.” Far more that a pessimistic swan song for our world, however, ‘Ategnatos’ holds the cathartic promise of renewal. “Ategnatos is the Gaulish word for ‘reborn’,” Chrigel explains. “To the sharpened mind, it points out the concealed, long forgotten key to change and renewal.” This, naturally, comes at a price. “There’s always suffering before bliss. And always darkness before light.”

A work based on archaic archetypes and the ancient concept of renewal, »Ategnatos« unfolds an elemental force to be reckoned with. “These archetypes are still within us. People didn’t change that much during the last 3000 years – and men were always just men.” No wonder the album follows a decidedly darker, monumental tone that suits them very well. Of course, Eluveitie have long found their very own trademark sound, a sonic adventure often copied but never overcome. With “Ategnatos,” the dedicated nine-piece not only worked with a real string quartet (a premiere!) and granted Fabienne Erni’s sublime mastery of the harp the room it deserved; they also undertook a holistic upgrade resulting in some of the most catchy, most aggressive or most epic tunes the Swiss Metal nobility has ever offered.

Recordings took place in their beloved New Sound Studio with their engineer of choice Tommy Vetterli. “Yet it was radically different as we only had four weeks to record this time around – as compared to the eight weeks we had for ‘Origins’.” By taking mixing duties to the skilled hand of renowned studio wizard Jens Bogren in his Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden, Eluveitie returned to the very spot where they mixed their now legendary “Slania” album more than ten years ago.

The cover artwork will be revealed on the band’s official Instagram in the next upcoming days, starting tomorrow.

Mantar Denied Entry Into Norway, Cancels Oslo Show

German duo Mantar has posted a statement online stating that their show in Oslo tonight has been cancelled, after they were turned away the Norwegian border. The statement reads as follows:

“KEEP NORWAY GREAT,
“KEEP MANTAR OUT! Oslo show cancelled!

“Bad news: we got denied at the border due to some weird tax shit we were supposed to pay for all the equipment. We didn’t have the papers they wanted and getting them would have resulted in not making it in time to oslo anyway. We never ever had that problem before when playing Norway. We are beyond bummed and seriously pissed but will make it up to you asap. Tomorrow: GOTHENBURG!”

Mantar released their third album, “The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze” earlier this year through Nuclear Blast Entertainment and are currently on tour in Europe with Skeletonwitch and Deathrite.

Mantar Posts New Song, “Taurus” Online

Monstrous black/doom/punk chimaera Mantar have released a brand new song called “Taurus.”
The song comes off the band’s new album, “The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze,” which is set to be unleashed on August 24, 2018 via Nuclear Blast. You can check it out below.

“The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze” is in-keeping with Mantar’s symbolic obsession with fire on their previous albums; this time disavowing mankind‘s tendency to blindly follow those that would lead us into oblivion. This isn‘t necessarily a political statement; more a morbid fascination with current smouldering tensions that threaten to set the minds of the masses on fire.

Mantar Teases New Music Video, “Taurus”

German black/doom/punk chimera Mantar will release their third studio album The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze on August 24th via Nuclear Blast. Pre-order the album here, and check out a teaser for the upcoming “Taurus” music video below.

Mantar have achieved more in five years than most bands twice their age and size. The product of a twenty year friendship between guitarist/vocalist Hanno Klaenhardt and drummer Erinc Sakarya, theirs is a success story born entirely of one thing: hard work, with three albums, an EP and a live release already to their name. Releasing their 2014 Svart Records debut Death By Burning, an uncompromising clash of stripped-back punk attitude and metal intensity to instant critical acclaim, the band toured relentlessly, gracing stages the world over, including the hallowed likes of Roadburn, Wacken Open Air and Maryland Deathfest. They used 2016’s Ode To The Flame, their Nuclear Blast Records debut, to further build upon their incendiary live reputation, conquering not only Europe and the US, but Russia, Japan and South Africa.

Now, following a brief period of repose which saw Hanno move to Florida, Mantar return with The Modern Art Of Setting Ablaze, a short, sharp shock that hones the hungry riffs and breath-taking pace of their previous records. “We skipped the bullshit,” explains Hanno. “I wanted 3 or 4 minute songs; bam, bam, bam. Every song different, catchy – that’s what rock and roll is about.”

Monstrosity Posts New Single, “Kingdom Of Fire” Online

On September 7th, Metal Blade Records will release “The Passage Of Existence,” the new studio album by Florida death metal legends Monstrosity. For a preview of The Passage Of Existence, the second single “Kingdom Of Fire” is available for streaming below. The album will be available in the following formats:

– ltd. Digipak-CD w/2 bonus tracks
– 180g black vinyl
– orange/red marbled vinyl (limited to 500 copies – EU exclusive)
– transp. grey-brown marbled vinyl (limited to 300 copies – EU exclusive)
– dusk blue-marbled vinyl (limited to 200 copies – EU exclusive)
– terracotta-marbled vinyl (limited to 120 copies – ebay exclusive)
– deep violet blue-marbled vinyl (limited to 500 copies – US exclusive)

Monstrosity’s Lee Harrison (drums) comments: “First off, I present to you the master piece of masterpieces in the Monstrosity universe. This album requires a certain justice though and I ask you, as the listener, to properly step up to the task. Don’t play this recording on a cheap portable radio or your tiny ear buds. This album was built to be played loud on a killer system. Do yourself that favor, at least for the first few times you play it. I know it’s so horribly cliché to say ‘Play it Loud’, but I can honestly say this album is made for that. Listen to it multiple times, too. These songs are going to ‘pop’ live, too. Can’t wait to bring these songs to the stage. I’m curious to see the opinions. The response by the fans to the teaser clip we posted was super positive, so I’ll be so glad when the single is released and the years of hard work finally come to fruition. Hope to see you guys on the road soon and blast it!”

Lee Harrison recorded his drum tracks at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with veteran metal producer Jason Suecof. A week was spent creating rock solid drum tracks. Guitar and bass tracks were handled at Ascension Sound in Tampa with the vocal tracks being recorded at Obituary’s “Redneck Studios” in Gibsonton, Florida. The mix was handled by producer Mark Lewis (Megadeth, etc), and the resulting 2018 album, The Passage Of Existence, was born. 12 tracks of masterfully crafted death metal for the modern era from the standard bearers of extreme art. Monstrosity still stand taller than ever, still delivering their brand of state of the art sonic devastation.

The tracklisting for “The Passage Of Existence” is as follows:

1. Cosmic Pandemia
2. Kingdom Of Fire
3. Radiated
4. Solar Vacuum
5. The Proselygeist
6. Maelstrom
7. Eyes Upon The Abyss
8. Dark Matter Invocation (ltd. Digi-CD bonus)
9. The Hive
10. Eternal Void (ltd. Digi-CD bonus)
