Memoriam Begins Work On New Album; Summer 2019 Release Expected

Old-school death metal band Memoriam are currently working on the follow up to their highly acclaimed 2018 album The Silent Vigil. The band recently ensconced themselves at Parlour Studios in Kettering (UK) to kick off the recordings with renowned producer, Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir, At The Gates, Amorphis etc).

The band states:
“So here we are on our second week of recording our third album at Parlour Studios with the infamous Russ Russell at the desk. Personally we think this is the album people wanted to hear from us when we set out with Memoriam, a big gritty production, aggressive vocals and music and a few curve-balls thrown in to keep the grey matter active! In hindsight it feels like the previous two albums were a preparation for this one. Our most satisfying work personally to date. We hope you feel the same once you get to hear it. Anyway, onwards with the recording”

The new album will be released in summer 2019. Stay tuned for more info.

Memoriam Splits With Drummer Andy Whale

British death metal supergroup Memoriam, which is comprised of members of Bolt Thrower, Benediction and Cerebral Fix, has announced that they will part company with drummer Andy Whale after two shows in Germany at the end of this month. A statement from the band reads as follows:

“Those who know Andy will know he is a fiercely proud family man and father. He wants to be with the first love of his life, which is his partner and children, more and we cannot see a better and more admirable reason for a band departure. We are sure that Andy will continue playing in the future but we think he may well follow his more punk routes than death metal. This is not an acrimonious departure and we are sure that in the future he will jump behind the kit again with Memoriam on stage for a bit of a bash!

“So, on the 28th and 29th of September in Germany (Erfurt and Oberhausen), Andy will be doing his last live shows with Memoriam. So those that can, please come along and enjoy the events, join our party, have fun and give Andy a right good send-off. All other shows will still go ahead, but for now, let’s all wish Andy well in whatever endeavour he chooses to move on with.

“We have achieved so much in such a short time together as a band and our love for you will never diminish. Our love and respect, always.”

Memoriam (Ex-Bolt Thrower, Etc.) Premiere New Music Video For “Nothing Remains”

A new music video for Memoriam‘s (ex-Bolt Thrower) song “Nothing Remains” has been premiered and is streaming for you below. March 23rd has been announced as the release date for the group’s sophomore album, “The Silent Vigil“, out via Nuclear Blast Records.

The band commented of the track:

“‘Nothing Remains‘ is about dementia and in particular about Karl‘s mother‘s struggle with this condition. The video is showing the experience of loss and dissolution brought about by the disease in the burning of old family portraits of Karl‘s mother and family, parents of Memoriam members and of friends as well as random strangers. Similar to us all being of the same blood as expressed in the previously released ‘Bleed the Same‘ we also all die and decay the same.”

Memoriam Signs Record Deal With Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast proudly announces the signing of death metal band Memoriam. Founded in January 2016 by Karl Willetts (Bolt Thrower) and Frank Healy (Benediction), the band will release a debut album in 2017 via Nuclear Blast Records. Memoriam comments:

“The war rages on… It is with great pleasure that Memoriam announces that we have signed a recording contract with Nuclear Blast Records. Throughout our long careers, 30 years to be precise, within the music industry and specifically within the death metal scene we have witnessed the growth of Nuclear Blast records to become the number one record company within our genre.

“When we started Memoriam back in January 2016 we intended just to form a band to go into the rehearsal rooms to jam out some cover versions of old classic songs that had influenced us in the past along with some cover versions from the bands we had played with over the years, and maybe eventually do a few low key gigs.

“With the introduction of Scott Fairfax into the line up all this changed, Scott has brought with him a wealth of killer riffs and new ideas which has totally changed things around from our original intentions. Very soon we decided to scrap the idea of being a covers band and to formulate our own songs using these riffs and ideas that Scott introduced to us, and from this we developed a whole load of new crushing brutal old school death metal songs which we are very proud of and can’t wait to unleash upon the world!

“When we started developing the songs we talked about the possibility of signing to a label and releasing an album, at that point we all decided that if Nuclear Blast approached us we would sign to them. This is because amongst all the labels out there none have a better relationship with the bands on their roster, none communicate better with both the bands and the fans of the music. None care as much about the music and the scene as Nuclear Blast Records. Nuclear Blast currently boasts the best artist roster of all the labels within the death metal genre, we are proud and honoured amongst this list! 2016 is the year of MEMORIAM. Let the resistance begin…”

Markus Staiger, CEO of Nuclear Blast, adds: “Being a lifetime fan of both Benediction and Bolt Thrower, it is with great pride that I announce that the new band of Frank Healy and Karl Willets has now joined the Nuclear Blast family! Following the first news regarding the band, I have been keeping a close eye on them and was very curious to hear their material.

“Besides me, a lot of metal magazines have been in touch with the band even before they had heard a single note of music, while the band has also received many invitations to play several summer festivals. After hearing their first demo songs I was completely sold and knew that I had to get in contact with Frank and Karl to seal the deal. Memoriam will please all the fans of old school death metal and especially the worldwide fan base of Bolt Thrower and Benediction!
With bands like Memoriam, Nuclear Blast remains the no # 1 in extreme metal!!”

Memoriam is:

Karl Willetts – BOLT THROWER | vocals
Andy Whale – ex-BOLT THROWER | drums
Scott Fairfax – ex-LIFE DENIED, BENEDICTION (live) | guitars

Mistur Releasing New Album “In Memoriam”

It’s been a long wait since Norway’s Mistur made its mark on the world with debut, “Attende.” Fortunately, the wait has not been in vain. The band’s latest full-length, “In Memoriam,” sees Mistur return with long and layered arrangements, clever melodies, and and progressive elements.

Mistur was forged in Sogndal, Norway by Espen Bakketeig and Andre Raunehaug, and joined shortly thereafter by Stian Bakketeig (Vreid, ex-Windir, ex-Cor Scorpii). Following just one demo, the group landed a deal with Einheit Produktionen, who would release the “Attende” debut in 2009. Apart from some festival shows and a tour however, the band fell dormant for a short time, before the work on the follow-up album started.

With new vocalist Oliver Øien and new drummer Tomas Myklebust, Mistur is back and more potent than ever before. “In Memoriam” was captured in Conclave and Earshot Studios as well as the band’s private studio, produced by Mistur mainman Espen Bakketeig, and mixed by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (Black Hole Generator, Vulture Industries).

Already issued in Europe late last month via Dark Essence Records, the label will unleash “In Memoriam” in North America on May 27th, 2016 on CD. The track listing is:

1. Downfall
2. Distant Peaks
3. Firstborn Son
4. Matriarch’s Lament
5. The Sight
6. Tears Of Rememberance
