Life Of Agony Reveals New Album “The Sound Of Scars” Details

Brooklyn, NY’s Life Of Agony is currently tracking their highly anticipated sixth studio album The Sound Of Scars with esteemed producer Sylvia Massy (Tool, System Of A Down) at her recording studio Studio Divine in Ashland, Oregon. Additional recording will take place at various studios in New York. Sylvia Massy will also handle mixing duties for the album. “The Sound of Scars” is expected to drop this fall from Napalm Records.

“Sylvia has a deep understanding of what this band is all about and we’ve wanted to work with her for a very, very long time,” says bassist Alan Robert. “Especially, since this is a concept album continuing the story of River Runs Red, we’re extremely grateful to have her on board to help capture the darkness, raw emotion and heaviness of the new material.

“Life of Agony began boldly over 25 years ago with its hard musical discourse into the human condition, a darkly hued story which continues to evolve today,” explains Sylvia Massy. “This is a unique band with a remarkable history of personal discovery – a phoenix tale of flight, fire and resurrection. This month we begin again to record the latest chapter. I am excited to be the witness to the creation of the new Life of Agony album!”

The Sound of Scars marks the first Life Of Agony album with new drummer Veronica Bellino, who joined the group last January and performed all-year long on LOA’s highly successful “Rise of the Underground” tour. Bellino is best known for her work with Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Jeff Beck, DMC, Richie Sambora/Orianthi, and Carmine Appice/Slamm.

Besides work on the album, Life Of Agony has already announced a handful of dates for 2019, including a co-headlining show with Overkill on Friday, May 10th at PlayStation Theater in New York City, Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany on August 2nd, and Rhein Riot Festival in Cologne, Germany with Body Count on August 3rd.

Chthonic Posts New Video, “Millenia’s Faith Undone” Online

Chthonic, the Taiwanese metal band recognized with its unique signature of performance, is to release an all new album, “Battlefields Of Asura,” on October 10th, the first new music since 2013’s full-length album, “Butik.” A video for the song “Millennia’s Faith Undone” can be found below.

According to Chthonic, the new album depicts the adventure of deities in Taiwan through eleven songs carrying messages about resistance, freedom and fraternity. The journey is full of hostility, adversary, impregnable fortresses and desires but also inspires infinite courage to search for eternal wisdom. Anyone deeply touched by this album will eventually realize that it is the origin of all thrilling epic stories portrayed in the past albums. This album sounds like gods versus devils and fights among evil spirits on the surface; however, everyone can feel the empathy of fury, grief and even strength of resurgence from the lyrics.

When asked why the band names the new album “Battlefields Of Asura,” Doris, the spokesperson of Chthonic, states, “This album is the prologue of the albums released in the past and was inspired by and dedicated to the activists of Taiwan’s first modern political reform movement back in 1920s.”

Pre-orders on CD and vinyl are available now. The album marks the first vinyl released by Chthonic since its formation. Pre-order of album box set is also available in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong which includes the album, T-shirt and caps, thematic candle glass, rosary plus 7″ vinyl collaboration single of Chthonic and Denise Ho.

Cynic Posts New Single, “Humanoid” Online

American progressive death metal legends Cynic has posted a new song online entitled, “Humanoid.” You can check it out below. The song marks the first output of new material since drummer Sean Reinert parted company with frontman Paul Masvidal, with the former’s place being taken by Matt Lynch.

Frontman Paul Masvidal comments: “‘Humanoid’ is a portrait of contrasts, like those between struggle and stillness, or the immediate against the limitless. Our Stargate is planet Earth — consciousness, the transmitter. We, sentient creatures of light, are alive now — on a sphere, floating in a galaxy fixed amidst the infinite. It’s quite miraculous to be aware of this, and it invokes a sense of urgency and empowerment that is unlike anything else.”

The artwork for “Humanoid” features a detail from the painting “Ayahuasca Dream” by Robert Venosa, Cynic’s longtime collaborator and celebrated artist who passed away in 2011.

“Humanoid” was recorded by Masvidal and longtime Cynic bassist Sean Malone and marks the debut of the band’s new drummer, Matt Lynch, who brings a renewed sense of energy to the Cynic rhythm section.

To mix “Humanoid”, Cynic partnered with renowned engineer Adam “Nolly” Getgood. Malone comments: “Nolly’s approach is equal parts expertise and intuition. Working with him was quick, clear, but most of all, musical.”
