Blaze Bayley Announces Iron Maiden Anniversary Shows

Blaze Bayley, singer with Iron Maiden from 1994 to 1999, announces that he will be playing a special Iron Maiden setlist at selected festival appearances in 2019. Choosing songs from his era with the band, these shows will celebrate 25 years since Blaze joined Iron Maiden. This will be the first and last opportunity to see such a setlist.

Blaze, who releases a new album and DVD, Live In France, on March 1st, and has just returned from a successful stint touring Latin America, sees this as the perfect opportunity to celebrate his time in Maiden which was such a positive experience and influence on his career as a whole.

Blaze has this to say, “25 years ago my great adventure with Iron Maiden began. It was a wonderful five years in my career and something I’m very proud of. Since then I have toured almost every year, and made 11 studio albums and three live albums. Recently, many fans have asked me to perform songs from the two albums I recorded with Iron Maiden, so this year to celebrate that magical time, I’m doing a full set of my favourite songs from the X-Factor and Virtual XI albums at festivals. My voice has developed and changed since my time as lead vocalist with Iron Maiden. Now I feel I’m singing better than ever, so I’m very excited about singing those old songs with the voice I have now.”

These festivals will feature a special Iron Maiden setlist from Blaze Bayley:

June 6 – Sweden Rock – Sweden
June 14 – Rock The Coast – Spain
July 27 – Headbangers Open Air – Germany
August 9 – Mannried Open Air – Switzerland
August 10 – Dark River Festival – Finland

The band at these shows will be Blaze’s regular touring and recording outfit taken from British band Absolva, plus Iced Earth bassist / Absolva guitarist Luke Appleton. The lineup is as follows:

Chris Appleton – guitar and backing vocals
Luke Appleton – guitar and backing vocals
Martin Mcnee – drums
Karl Schramm – bass and backing vocals

Chris Appleton adds, “Normally when we perform as Blaze’s band we are a four-piece including Blaze, so just myself on lead guitar and that really works for us. But for these Maiden sets, we think it’s really cool to bring in my brother Luke as second guitarist to enhance the Maiden feel. It’s an honour for us to play these songs with Blaze, increasingly recognised as an important chapter in Maiden’s history.”

The Raven Age Posts New Song “The Day The World Stood Still” Online

This March, UK heavy rockers The Raven Age will release their highly anticipated second album Conspiracy through Corvid Records. Ahead of the release, the band have shared the fourth installment from the record ‘The Day The World Stood Still’.

A melodic metal monster that is as brilliantly catchy as it is artfully heavy, it’s equipped with epic guitar solos and powerful vocal lines that have the ferocity and theatrics of the likes of metal heavyweights Avenged Sevenfold. It follows the tracks ‘Surrogate’, ‘Betrayal of the Mind’ and the previous single ‘Fleur De Lis’, which has now reached over 1million streams on Spotify.

Named after a collective of ravens, Conspiracy is a cryptic soundtrack to the immersive fantasy world that the combined minds of bandmates Matt James (vocals), George Harris (guitar), Tony Maue (guitar), Matt Cox (bass) and Jai Patel (drums) have created. A world that delves into history’s myths and legends, with the stories re-told through their music and imagery. Clues left within their artwork and lyrics connect everything together to be part of a bigger story, pointing to what may later come to pass for The Raven Age.

Conspiracy is an inventive, mature and thrilling body of work that’s full of twists and tangents that carry the excitement from start to finish.

Having already built a solid live presence after touring the globe with the likes of Tremonti, Killswitch Engage, Shinedown, Mastodon to name a few and appearing at a number of festivals including Waken Open Air, Bloodstock and Download, they will be supporting this release with their biggest headline run to date across the UK and Europe throughout March and April with support from Defences.

They will then continue the year as support to Iron Maiden on their North and South American leg of the ‘Legacy Of The Beast’ tour from July to October.

Gatekeeper Posts New Music Video “Grey Maiden” Online

Canadian true metal force Gatekeeper have debuted a music video for the title track from their new EP “Grey Maiden,” set for release on February 22nd via Cruz Del Sur Music. You can check it out below.

Featuring two brand-new compositions, a cover song and a track re-recorded from their first demo, Grey Maiden picks right up where the band’s acclaimed East Of Sun first full-length left off. The groundswell of support in North America and abroad – including the selling out of the vinyl and CD pressing of East Of Sun within six months – spurred Gatekeeper to satiate their ever-growing fanbase with a new release.

“We’ve been working harder and faster than ever since all of this started happening,” says guitarist and founding member Geoff Blackwell. “If there’s one thing I’ve learned from spending the past ten-plus years in bands, it’s that momentum is your greatest resource and you’ve gotta pour gasoline on the little fires that pop up in your career.”

According to Blackwell, Gatekeeper (who are rounded out by vocalist Jean-Pierre, lead guitarist Kenny Kroecher, bassist David Messier and drummer Tommy Tro) has performed more shows in 2018 than all other years of the band combined, which has started to influence their songwriting. While East Of Sun is considered by many fans to get only better with each passing listen, the songs on Grey Maiden are some of the band’s most immediate compositions to date. However, there are some twists afoot.

“The title track might be our best song yet,” notes Blackwell. “It’s got a massive chorus, intricate vocal lines and catchy, pummelling riffs. We re-recorded the song ‘Tale Of Twins’, which is an old favorite that we’ve been playing lately. It’s finally gotten the recording and performance quality that the song deserves! JP did a great job with the singing on this one.

“‘Moss’ is a big departure from our other material,” he continues. “It’s a soft, finger-picked acoustic ballad featuring a lilting guitar pattern inspired by traditional folk music with fantasy-tinged lyrics. We also brought in a guest violinist to fill in the gaps. It’s much different than anything else we’ve done, but I think it makes perfect sense for Gatekeeper. Lastly, we covered an obscure Nwobhm song by a band named Tredegar called ‘Richard III’. They’re a very cool, but forgotten band from Wales who had ex-members of Budgie in their ranks. They were a very early example of epic metal and we decided that it would be a good match for us. Kenny and I took some liberties with the guitar arrangement.”

Gatekeeper’s future plans include a tour of Europe in support of “Grey Maiden,” including spots on key festivals such as Hell Of Hammaburg, Swordbrothers and Up The Hammers. In addition to more live dates in their home territory of Canada, Gatekeeper will buckle down and get to work on their second LP, which, according to Blackwell, will feature material contributed by the entire band. But, before the calendar jumps over to 2019, some reflection of 2018 is warranted, a year that saw Gatekeeper emerge as one of the best new traditional metal hopefuls in recent memory.

“Obviously we all hoped the album would do well and I figured that we’d make a few sales and play some fun shows here and there,” closes Blackwell. “But, I absolutely never expected us to sell out the first vinyl and CD pressing so quickly. That’s the kind of stuff that usually happens to other people. The outpouring of support from our new friends and fans on social media and streaming platforms like YouTube has been huge, too.”

Kill The Lights (Ex-Bullet For My Valentine) Premiere Debut Single “The Faceless”

Kill The Lights – the new band featuring former Bullet For My Valentine drummer Michael “Moose” Thomas, Throw The Fight frontman James Clark, Still Remains guitarist Jordan Whelan, Threat Signal guitarist Travis Montgomery and Glamour Of The Kill bassist Davey Richmond – premiere their debut single in the form of the below music video called “The Faceless“.

Recording sessions for the song were helmed by Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Slipknot).

Comments drummer Michael “Moose” Thomas of his return to the scene:

“I’m super grateful and excited to be back. I can’t wait for everyone to hear this. When I parted company with the old band, musically I was just sitting around doing fuck all and realized I had worked too hard and come too far to turn around. I thought I’d get in touch with Jordan and sent him a text asking, ‘Got any riffs or what?!’ Before I knew it, he had sent me 30 or 40 songs. I was like, ‘Erm, okay!’ I couldn’t believe it.”

Adds Clark:

“We all want to do something fresh, and for me it was about exploring some of the throwback metal more like Maiden or Priest that I felt had gotten lost over the years, but in a new way. ‘The Faceless‘ is a song for those that have spent their lives in the shadows, never felt good enough, or just struggled to fit in or feel a part of something. The song is a message to the broken… it’s time to be seen, it’s time to be heard. From darkness to light we are all the same – we are the faceless.”

Amon Amarth launches live video for “Twilight of the Thunder God”

– October 5th, 2018 –

Taken from new documentary and live album(s), ‘The Pursuit Of Vikings: 25 Years In The Eye Of The Storm’

On November 16th, Amon Amarth will release their new documentary and supporting live album(s), The Pursuit Of Vikings: 25 Years In The Eye Of The Storm – which includes a retrospective documentary that features a wealth of live and behind-the-scenes content and extensive band interviews. This film tells the Swedish quintet’s history, through both their own eyes and those of the fans that have supported them along the way. It is a thrilling collection that pays respect to the faithful, as well as making for a detailed and riveting introduction for those new to their inspiring story. Paired with this documentary is the live video/audio, which contains two different sets at 2017′s Summer Breeze Festival in Dinkelsbuhl, Germany, capturing the unit at their very best.

Having played the German festival numerous times over the years, and loving the family vibe they have always experienced there, Amon Amarth leapt at the chance to appear twice in the same year. Playing a secret, smaller scale set that focused primarily on older material, and then headlining the main stage with full production – including their giant sea serpent and lots of fire – allowed them to showcase their songs at their best – though putting together setlists from such a mighty catalogue was not the easiest of tasks. “For the first night, we wanted to write a set that the fans would enjoy by wholly diving into our back catalog but also keeping it interesting,” explains guitarist Olavi Mikkonen. “But putting the two shows together also made us realize that we have a lot of songs to choose from!”

For the band, producer Alexander Milas (who contributed to Kerrang! and was an award-winning editor-in-chief of Metal Hammer, before starting his own creative solutions company, Twin V Ltd.) and director Phil Wallis, The Pursuit Of Vikings has been a true labor of love. “I think I first became conscious of Amon Amarth around the release of 2002′s ‘Versus the World‘,” Milas states. “It was a really transitional time for metal, and it seemed there wasn’t a credible band on the heavier end of the scale that hadn’t in some way responded to or been influenced by the pioneering sounds of the Swedish death metal scene, but I distinctly remember thinking that there was something unique about these guys: the artwork, the thematic underpinnings, even that curiously timeless logo.” While their sound certainly displays strong echoes of the nation that birthed them, Amon Amarth arguably wield a unique aura, a “lusciously crafted escapism” that Milas likens to the classic bands he grew up with: Dio, Iron Maiden, and others who exist on a spectrum of their own making.

For a preview of The Pursuit Of Vikings, a live video of “Twilight of the Thunder God” can be viewed now at: amonamarth.lnk.to/pursuitofvikings – where the DVD/live album can also be pre-ordered in the following formats via Metal Blade Records in the USA:
